Customer Reviews

Must Have!!!It's Van Halen when they were one of the worlds biggest band. Everyone should own this album. Not just the fans but everyone. It's that good. As a fan though I'll admit that if I don't hear Jump again I will be happy. It's like KISS' Rock n Roll all night it's played by every radio station and as a fan I think there are better songs on here that the general public should hear. Top Jimmy is a hidden gem so is Drop dead legs. This album shows up on everyone's top lists from best rock albums to albums every guitarist should own. If you're a music fan don't let this album stay out of your collection. If you're young guitar player I recommend this album and really all Van Halen albums as you'll hear a side of Eddie that 90% of fans miss - his rhythm playing and song writing. Yep, Eddie is a masterful rhythm player and really knows how to structure songs. He's a musicians musician who can also relate to non-musicians with his song writing.5Sound Quality A++++++Sound is lightening times better than the original CD releases. Can't comment on the Warner reissues than came out more recently but it is night and day above the original cd's. I replaced all of them with these reissues. I'm a sound snob too! These sound superb!5Love Van Halen ? Must have for your VH collectionI am a true Van Halen fan and cannot say enough about 1984. This was my very first concert I'd ever been to when i was 16. Van Halen was all over the radio and MTV at the time. It was an amazing show and it cemented my lifetime love for this band. 1984 is full of fantastic music. My personal faves are "Panama", "Hot for Teacher" and "Girl Gone Bad". I know this album is best known for their only #1 hit "Jump", but that is the most "pop" sounding song on the album. For me Eddie's solo is the best part about that song. Alex's drum solo at the beginning of "Hot for Teacher" is by far, in my opinion, his best. Dave and Eddie have a magic together for songwriting and the lyrics to every tune is outstanding. Michael Anthony's backup vocals are the glue that holds the songs together.5We already know the album is great, this was settled over 30 years agoWe already know the album is great, this was settled over 30 years ago. But this version of the vinyl is SO clean and the sound is incredible. I direct A/B tested this against the CD, and I gotta say, the synth in Jump has more "bite" and the drums definitely sound punchier and it's all for the better. Definitely buy this record.5Van Halen's classic, not full of "Jump"s.Van Halen's classic album, filled up with plenty of risky and innovative guitar riffs (signed of course by, what else?, guitar virtuoso and experimental Eddie Van Halen) which defined the essence of hard rock sound during the 80's.The subtle blend between hard rock and keyboards worked really well, just for this record and its era, keeping in mind the New Wave movement invaded almost everything then. Much more of it would become tedious...Excellent vocals, amazing guitar riffs and a few hooking songs made this one of the decade's music exponent, still good enough to enjoy almost after thirty years. However, not all of the songs are as catchy as Jump or Panama, so listener may not expect much more beyond that, but not a bad album anyway with more than a half of good songs. Some drum sounds on a couple cuts eventually reminds Bonzo's on Led Zeppelin IV.A must in any 80's collection.4If you are a good human being, you will buy it.This should be the second, or third time, you have bought this album. If you haven't worn out your first ones, well, you are just sad. Unless you are under the age 10. Otherwise, never publicly tell anyone. You will only embarrass yourself, your family, anyone who has had sex with you, and most of the people at your church.5You Will EnjoyOne of the best VH albums ever. Appealing to a more pop oriented crowd, the album retains a hard rock sound with, Girls Gone Bad and House of Pain. You'll get your money's worth.5Relax, The Synthesizers Sound GreatWhenever you talk about synthesizers these days, most people remember the synth-pop sounds of acts from the 80's like Thomas Dolby and Information Society. Few of them recall (at least at first) Van Halen, who merged synthesizer sounds with sonic guitar solos on "1984." Van Halen made it okay for hard rock bands to use synthesizers. Sure, bands like STYX incorporated such instruments into their music, but they weren't considered rock gods on the same level as Eddie and Co.With this album came the mega-hit, "Jump." It brought Van Halen's sound into the mainstream radio arena and exposed them to a lot of people who didn't listen to rock music up to that point. It also gave us "Panama," "I'll Wait," "Drop Dead Legs" and "Girl Gone Bad." Sure to remind us that these synthesizing boys still know how to be bad, Alex Van Halen hits the listener with a barrage of drums to open up my personal favorite on this album, "Hot For Teacher." This song is almost a kick in the teeth compared to the rest of the album. It's nothing more than dirty fun and pure rock n' roll. This is definitely one of the best albums ever cranked out by Van Halen before Sammy Hagar took the frontman position. Heck, it's one of the best Van Halen albums ever. I highly recommend it to any fan of true hard rock music. It's a great album.5Must have back catalog-definitive Van HalenIn 1984 I purchased the vinyl copy of this recording while in college. Since then my musical tastes have changed however, as a music collector there are certain recordings, regardless of style or taste, that are necessary to complete a rock music collection. Van Halen 1984 is one of those albums. This is the album that took Van Halen into the classs of International superstardom that most bands dream of, but unfortunately this is also the recording that took the band's egos over the top as well making it the last studio album that the band recorded with their original line-up. While Van Halen I showed a band that was fresh and raw, 1984 shows a more mature rock band, familiar with the studio, and recording at the height of their artistic power. IMO the synth tracks on this album augment Eddie's guitar shredding quie nicely and put this record over the top for me.4An Impressive 180g vinyl release...I stood in line at the music store in 1984 on the morning that this was originally released and eagerly waited to purchase this album. I studied every part, and listened carefully to every song. Fast forward 35 years later and now I m holding a 180g remastered release. First off, the cover is exactly like the original, down to the back cover printed upside down. The inner sleeve and liner notes are included as well as an extra audiophile quality white paper sleeve that is plastic lined that the record is in. The vinyl is dead quiet and the remaster quality is superb. It may be the best that this has ever sounded. These VH re-releases are quite impressive and worth every penny. They are limited pressings so grab it up while you can!5
