Customer Reviews

Perfect for the 'recording-challenged' I bought this on the advice of my producer, who I've recorded 2 records with, and I'm amazed at how easy this mic is to use. Before I was using my iPhone to record my practices, and to record new songs so I wouldn't forget them. This mic is so much easier. When I first opened the package, I thought I'd have to spend at one least one frustrated hour trying to figure out how to use it. I looked at the instructions and it said to download a driver if you had a Windows computer. I didn't see anything for my Mac, so I just plugged the USB port into my computer and then started Garageband. Garageband asked me if I wanted to use the Blue, I said yes, and presto! I was in business. It took me under five minutes to start recording. Now I just leave the Blue on my desk, and all I have to do is to plug it in and start my practicing. The Blue makes recording easier than my iPhone. I won't go into the specifics of the Blue but it has 4 settings on the back knob, a mute and volume dial on the front, and it just sits there as decoration until I use it.The sound is perfect and with Garageband I have condenser settings, reverb, different voices and lots of really easy options that I don't need a manual to use. Actually, I've lost the manual for the Blue, but I'm sure I can find out what the 4 buttons on the back mean again. I need omni directional because I play guitar while I sing, so this is important. 5Good investmentGreat quality microphone. I use it for gaming and music production. It is extremely versatile when it comes to spec and controlling gain on the fly. The people I game with tell me how good my voice quality is. I use many different voice com software and the Yeti Pro works like regular USB mic.Just remember that the software has to be pre-installed from the website before you're able to use it, it's not instant plug and play. This means that this mic isn't all too portable because wherever you're taking it most likely wont have its software/drivers installed on the machine. This isn't a problem for me since I only use it as a stationary mic on my desk but figured its worth mentioning.I won't go into great details about this mic since there are already many great reviews out there for this product that go into great depth. If you're thinking about getting this microphone then I suggest checking them out and making your decision then. That's what I did and haven't had any doubts since I new exactly what I was getting. The microphone is built extremely sturdy and in turn is quite heavy which may end up being a problem down the road if you're looking to have a specific setup with mic accessories and what not. (Not all microphone arms/stands can easily support its weight but for the most part that isn't a worry. If there was a half rating then I'd give this product a 4.5/5 stars. Losing out on the half because although I am extremely satisfied with the quality; there where times where my mic simply would not work. I would get frustrated with it not knowing what's going on only for it to automatically start working later on down the road. I don't know if I can blame the mic or drivers for this though.. Randomly happens about once a month. Settings are always set to have this mic as input but problems arise every now and then.5Great Sound, Versatile Pros: Feature Rich, Great Sound, Versatile, Easy to Use, Well BuiltCons: Price, Weight, Boom ArmDetails: Over all great mic. The ability to monitor through the Mic via headphones is amazing, the versatility to record through USB and Mic cables makes it even more outstanding. The sound quality is stunning. The build quality is top notch. The controls are strait forward & keeps matters simple. The cons only come into play if you want to put this on a scissor style boom arm. You'll need to buy an extension to allow for clearance with the cables. With the weight of this Mic plus the extension peace having the Mic sit further out can cause sagging issues with cheaper hardware. Also my only other complaint is the lack of shock mount options but I knew that going into this. The few options available are a bit pricey as well. Right now this Mic is sitting on a RODE boom arm and its working great on the extension, just thought I'd mention it to anyone who might be thinking of going this route. Is it worth the extra cost for add on features for this mic? Well that depends on your application. For me I wanted something for VOIP programs, streaming, pod casting, recordings, and live audio. This performs well for all my needs. Hope this helps. 5I love this mic!OMG this mic is wonderful! I found it through someone doing sound review clips with different mics and I loved the sound of this one. Planning to do a full audiobook with it and podcasts as well. My voice never sounded so good! LOL PS...I'm still learning, but I do love this mic. The stand and is heavy and so is the mic itself. Great quality!5Started To Create Static After 1 MonthI really liked this microphone to start out. Although I was sent the wrong one originally (a Blue Snowball Black Ice) they did get me the replacement quickly. I enjoyed it for about a month before it randomly started to create audio static while it was being used. I tried everything, different cord, different USB ports but it always happened. I am going to try to connect it via XLR to see if it fixes it then I won't really care. But if it still happens through XLR then I bought a 250 dollar static white noise machine....1It's Like Getting Your First Digital Camera, But For Sound RecordingOh. My. God.Those were the words I spoke when I tried this out for the first time at home. I am not an audiophile and am new to music recording, but I wanted to get prosumer-level quality equipment, and decided on this microphone. I've been in a proper studio so I have an idea of what a studio setup should record and sound like.Getting this microphone is the equivalent to getting your very first DSLR digital camera (for those that started with film). The transition from film to digital was mind-blowing. Not only could you instantly see what the shutter picked up, you could also learn what you did right or wrong at that very moment, and you quickly adjusted settings and became better because of it. This microphone is equivalent to that experience. The keyword here is *instant*. You will be able to figure out how to self-adjust your voice, instantly. You've maybe used a cheap computer microphone, or a webcam/phone microphone before, but jumping to this is a huge step forward. You are able to connect headphones to the microphone (this is key, so get some quality over-ear headphones), which allows you to *instantly* hear what you sound like. Don't be afraid of your voice! Learn how to control it. Now you can play around with your voice to come across exactly how you want. Some of you may be professionals, some may want to be professional, this microphone will help towards your journey. Honestly, I was having so much fun using this, I was reading everything online into the microphone because it was, just, so, fun. For anyone that wants to get into voice-overs, podcast recording, or voice acting, this is a step in the right direction. Get one today! Recommended.5Stops recording randomly.I bought this microphone to record voice-overs and lectures. I am a Mac user running OS 10.12, and I followed the directions that accompanied the product. The microphone records fine for a minute or so and then mutes itself. I have been to the Yeti Pro website and followed the directions they gave for use of the product. It still doesn't work properly. I do not recommend this product. I will not recommend this product to my colleagues. I would like an explanation from the company as why this problem persists. Mostly though, I would just like the product to work as advertised.1The Blue Yeti Pro!! Absolutely Amazing!!!Oh yeah....5 Stars No Doubt! I have had this for just a little over a year now and I really love this Blue Yeti Pro Microphone. I have heard people brag about this item for so long that i was compelled to buy one. I LOVE IT and you will too!! This thing is beautiful, it's like holding a special trophy in your hands. I use it for all my voice over work on my YouTube videos. On the front you will find your volume and mute controls, on the back you have your Gain and Pattern settings, and on the bottom you will find your USB, Headphone, & Analog XLR output. For anyone interested in recording high quality audio, do yourself a favor and purchase one of these, you will be glad you did!!!5A non biased side by side review vs 2 other MicsI'm writing this to help save time for those looking to get a pro level USB mic as I spent quite a bit of time reading reviews (amazon and pro music reviews) listening to mic shootouts and leg work on USB microphones so I though I would see if I can help others save some time. I'm a bit retentive when it comes to my audio gear. I spent 10 years looking for the perfect studio monitors and finally found a slice of heaven in the ADAM s3A's.Beware the negative reviews as it looks as though they could be user error. Im using on a mac and both mics were flawlessly plug and record nothing to do at all.I have a professional recording studio and consider my 20 years of listening experience worthwhile in doing an unbiased review. My goal was to find a usb microphone able to perfectly capture vocals and instruments without adding color (anything but the pure sound) to use with my ipad for audio work.Microphones and monitors are very subjective in my opinion . Different people like the way different gear sounds. I was simply looking for sonic clarity and depth.I settled on the Blue Yeti Pro and the MXL 009 and bought them both. I surmised these were the two top picks (based on user and pro reviews) out of the 5 or so at the top including the non pro yeti. This is my first time owning a blue or MXL mic. I have a couple of Shure ksm44's and a few NeumannsI ran a series of comparisons between the Yeti Pro, THe MXL 009 and my goto in the studio which is the ksm44 running through an Avalon ad2022 pre through an RME Fireface UFX into an 2011 Imac. I used two sets of headphones and my monitors to listen to the audio recorded. As set of audio technica m50s, and a pair of Sony MDR7509's and the s3a's. I recorded vocals, shakers and tuning forks at both 48k 16bit and 24bit 96k sample rates to see if it made a difference. It does make a difference but its slight and if you were making a song you probably couldn't tell in the mix. If you were doing a podcast or talkshow you woud notice slightly richer deeper clarity with the 96k 24bit setting. The results were very surprising to me mostly because I was blown away that a $300 microphone can compete with 7K in studio gear. I think I need to tell Toto were not in Kansas anymore. Rating scale 10 = amazing 1=SucksThe Yeti Pro - If you are looking to get just one mic then this is your pick because of its feature set. Its built like a tank. Has the 4 different switching options which is very useful for getting different sounds. You could put it on a table for an interview and hear both people as an example. Also has standard xlr out, could be nice if you want to use it with standard gear. The stereo out is a nice feature (unless you want mono).Features = 10Easy of Use = 10 quick adjustments of gain and are forgiving if your not spot on.Set up = 10 ( I literally just plugged it in and selected it in logic pro used to record the audio)Sound Quality = 8 The MXL009 was a bit more transparent and honest with the sound.Accessories = 9 desk stand is rock solid and cool lookingLook and Feel = 8 Very nice looking and solid feeling but kinda bulky. Sexy sitting on the desk if you care. They get -2 points as the Blue logo was slightly off level which most people probably would not or could not notice. (retentive)The MXL 009 - If you want the best sounding Mic and dont care about the rest this is your mic.Features = 7 (lack of traditional xlr out limits to digital use)Easy of Use = 7 You need to get your gain levels set prior to using or you will get pops and clicks in your audio. This could be a bummer if you just did a big long take and now have to edit to remove a few clicks. Set your gains and you will be without issue. ( would be nice if they had a clipping indicator on the mic since this is such a big issue). Maybe they will correct it with a soft or firmware update.Set up = 10 ( I literally just plugged it in and selected it in logic pro - used to record the audio)Sound Quality = 10 The MXL009 was a bit more transparent and honest with the sound. It is really a beautifully accurate mic.Accessories = 9 desk stand is rock solid but not as cool looking as the yeti. Its a basic stand. It comes with a cool metal case if you travel with your mics.Look and Feel = 9 Very nice looking and solid feeling. The blue led is a nice touch to show its connectedThe verdict is that they all sound amazing. If you were not doing a sise by side A/B you would miss the subtle differences. The Shure has a slight lead for overall sound but the MXL009 is not far behind and the Yeti pro is right up there with them. Its not quite as good sonically but as far as getting bang for your buck the yeti pro is an amazing choice for everything you get for less than $300. Unbelievable! My hats off to both companies for such great products.I am keeping them both unfortunately as they are that great for different reasons.5Style AND Quality? yes please.I bought this as a christmas gift for my SO and he was so excited when he opened it! He was thrilled with the old fashioned design and the choice to use digital or analog inputs. We had a lot of fun testing out the different settings but he mainly uses his for podcasts. We have a Mac computer and there is no software required, you only have to plug it into the USB port and change your audio input. System Preferences > Sound > Input > chose your mic. He also got really excited when I suggested he can go out and about and record stock sounds too, birds, cars etc. The audio is clear and not tinny, as if the person was standing right in front of you.5Best microphone I've ever usedBest microphone I've ever used. Absolutely needs the Blue Microphones Radius Microphone Shock Mount. The desk stand still absorbs too many vibrations, and you hear it in the mic. Grab a Scissor Arm mount and the shock mount, and you're golden, ready for anything.5Started Good...Now Not So MuchI bought the mic in early Sep 2016, and it was working GREAT until middle Feb 2017...and it just stopped working. As with other reviews, its plugged in to the USB or not, there is no On/Off switch. The little red light is your indicator for power and connectivity. When the light goes out you are done.I have been corresponding with Blue Mountain over the last couple of weeks...but its via email and its slow going. They want you to go through all of the steps from cable replacement to different ports and try different computers. I did all of that right away...and I even went out and bought a powered hub to test just in case my mac was the issue. Of course all other devices work fine so its all about the mic. One thing that is interesting is that the msft surface book pro indicated that there was a current draw...but the mic still won't fire up so its drawing power but that's all.For now I am out the $$$. Probably will just go with another brand at this point since I need a mic and I am not getting too far with Blue Mountain. This is not a new issue for them so one would think they would be a little quicker since there is a bit of a history with failing devices.** Update 03.08.2017 - Support has asked for device for testing and proof of purchase. We are moving in the right direction!** Update 03.15.2017 - Resent the amazon invoice Two More times...no response from support. Not a good sign.** Update 03.15.2017 - Finally a Return Authorization at End Of Day...3.5 weeks after first contacting Blue Mountain. Its a good thing this is not my living.** Update 03.21.2017 - Blue Mountain has verified the unit is defective and are sending me a new one. Hopefully this will last.** Update 03.24.2017 - Received new mic. Sounds great. I'll up it to 4 stars...but more than 1 month turnaround time is not acceptable if you needed the mic and couldn't afford a backup.** Update 06.27.2017 - Just lost the headphones through the mic and the ability to record is flaking! Terrible! This is too painful!** Update 07.18.2017 - Up to 3 stars. No longer using the USB interface. The XLR interface seems better. Requires 48v phantom power and it comes with a 5-pin to 3-pin adapter for the XLR interface cable.3
