Customer Reviews

Don't use it where it will show! I have the white Chaco liner and love it. I thought the blue would be handy to have for lighter color fabrics, but I discovered to my dismay that this blue does not come out of the fabric! I will keep it and use it occasionally, but only when I'm marking a seamline that won't show on the outside of my project. 5Works as promised The way it works is pretty genius in my opinion. The precision you can get with this is really great, and the chalk can be brushed off easily. My only wish is that the chalk wouldn't brush off quite so easily. Unless I start sewing immediately after using the pen, there's a good chance I'll lose most of my line. I'm sure there's some kind of chemical mixture that would make this stuff stick just a little more. With its innovative design, it deserves some new innovative type of chalk. If that could ever be created this product would be absolutely perfect. Despite that one gripe, there's nothing else I've used that works this well. 4This is so much better. The refills only cost around $5 I should've bought one of these a long time ago. For a while now I've been using the red plastic pen-style chalk holder with the replaceable sticks of chalk that you have to sharpen, but those are more expensive and break so often I end up having to throw half of the chalk away before I get to use it. This is so much better. The refills only cost around $5, the line stays fine and doesn't go dull like the sticks of chalk do, and if I drop it or it rolls off the table it doesn't break-because it's already powder! If you leave the cap on the end of the pen, there's a little ridge that keeps it from rolling away. The blue line has shown up well on every fabric I've used it on so far, from flannel to cotton lawn, to finer fabrics like costume satin. I can't say how long it lasts, as I've only had it a few weeks, but since it's so inexpensive to refill I don't think longevity will be a problem. 5Where have they been all my life? Oh. My. These chaco liners are, hands down, the best marking tools out there. I have tried pens, pencils, regular chalk, you name it. These little things go on stretchy and dark fabric like magic. The little serrated wheel turns smoothly and dispenses just the right amount of chalk.I have the white and yellow ones, and both are great for marking on dark fabrics, such as stretch velvet. I could not mark properly with anything on dark stretch velvet before-thanks to these, it is now a breeze. The tip is narrow so you can get close to a ruler or the pattern paper. At under $6 they are so worth their price! Did I mention I love these? 5Good for some things, not for others I intended to use this to mark the center of Aida cloth for cross stitching. It didn't come out. Fortunately the pattern covered it over - I knew that it hadn't washed out because I also marked another part of the fabric, outside the design, and that was still there after I washed the finished piece. Also, "silver" is a bit of a misnomer - the mark it makes is very, very dark gray, almost black. I've also used it to mark lines on the reverse side of fabric to cut bias binding for quilting, and it's wonderful for that. Just don't assume that because it's a powder that it'll wash out easily - make sure you test it first. 3A Must have for all seamstress and quilters This little gem is a must have for all sewers and quilters. Mark thin chalk lines without the mess of a chalk stick or pencil which needs sharpening. I have one in every color. Get yours also 5White is great, but the pink does not brush off I do like these pens and I think they work quite well as marking instruments. Sometimes the wheel gets a little stuck but I roll it a bit on my hand and it works again. The white color brushes off very easily, and is my favorite marking tool. The pink, however, doesn't really brush off and doesn't even want to wash out. I made the mistake of using the pink on some quilting cotton to mark a line for top stitching. The pink was driven into the white thread, and when I tried to hand wash it, maybe 70% came out. It didn't, luckily, bleed. So use the pink (and perhaps other colors like blue and yellow?) carefully, and ONLY on the wrong side and not to mark a stitching line - only cutting lines. 3Why did it take me so long to try this? I LOVE this marker. I have tried all the other things out there, pencils (need sharpening, pull the fabric), tracing paper (just plain cumbersome to deal with, can't see where the marks are going on the fabric), and chalk (like the pencils it needs sharpening, fat line, pulls the fabric and doesn't always lay down chalk on some fabrics).I have the silver and was pleasantly surprised to discover that it was easy to see on all of the fabrics I used to make Christmas items. A wide range of colors and designs. I have used it mostly for cotton fabrics but also on several stretch knits. It is on the knits that I really appreciate the non-pulling nature of this pen.I haven't had to refill it yet so the chalk in it goes a pretty long way. I will return with comments about the ease (or not) of refilling it once I have experienced that task.As others have noted, there is no problem with "erasing" the lines. My sewing is more accurate now that I can make a line that is both accurate and easy to see. 5Fine lines for precise marking I bought this chalk liner a while ago and then took a break from sewing for a few months since the kids were home for the summer. Really hard to sew with a 3 year old and 6 year old in the house all the time! Now that school is back in session, I finally got a chance to break out some fabric and sew. I made a box pleat skirt for my daughter and needed to mark a lot of lines, both for cutting the pieces and for marking the pleat fold lines. Wow! This was so much better than my old tailors' chalk blocks. The lines are finer and I can really get them up against the ruler for very precise measurement marking. And just like the other chalk, this brushes away without a trace. I am so happy I bought this and I know I will be using it on many future projects. The silver showed up well on both light and dark fabric. This color will probably be my go-to but I think I will buy other colors as well for those times when the silver won't show up well. 5very useful I got this because of the recommendations. I tend to use chalk or tracing paper or something to transfer marks onto my fabric when I am sewing (usually clothes). This works great for drawing a line without grabbing the fabric and pulling it from laying flat. There is some sort of wheel in there that dispenses the chalk and makes the line. However, it seems to only go in one direction, so you have to keep figuring out which way that is or mark your pen somehow so it's always obvious to you. It makes a good line, but being chalk of course it doesn't last long. When you're wrangling your fabric as you're making the garment or whatever a lot of chalk can get brushed or knocked off. I marked a shirt and then have it sitting on the dress form to work on, but the chalk is getting fainter. So best to get right to the work after you've marked it, otherwise use a washable fabric pen.Overall, I am pleased with this discovery and will continue to use it in my sewing arsenal. I also told my Mom about it.Pros:Very handyMakes a nice, neat lineNo chalk on your handsRefillableCons:has one writing directionnot long-lasting 4
