Customer Reviews

No more sore fingersI sew some heavy items in my shop and have needed a thimble for years. Could never find one that fit in the cloth stores--all for women i guess. This fits my finger like a glove--and works great. No more sore fingers or using pliers to push needles through material.5Loving this thimble-just what I needed for my embroidery/crewel needsI love this leather coin thimble. I have large hands and haven't been able to find a thimble that fits "just right" whether it was leather, metal, silver, plastic or whatever. Until now, that is. This thimble is made of what appears to be a very soft, pliable deerskin. I have another leather thimble that is too short and made of thicker, non-pliant leather. I never used it after the first time.I bought the medium size and it fits down below the first joint on my middle finger and fits snugly but not tightly. I'm glad there wasn't a large size mentioned or I would have probable ordered it and it would have been too big.I use the thimble for my embroidery and crewel work. One side of the thimble is a double thickness of leather. The other side has the metal inset. I use both, depending on the thickness of the fabric I'm working on.Like others have mentioned, I have ordered another two of these - just in case they go out of business or I misplace this. When I find a good product, I want to keep at least one in reserve. I heartily recommend this thimble for any of your hand sewing needs.5Could be more snug The label says Coin Thimble (MEDIUM) but I can't find a small or a large anywhere. The flare at the opening makes it loose. IF it's cut straight like the Natural Fit Leather Thimble, it would be better. 3Needed to replace after 2 months daily useAt first it was a bit tight and I wished for a larger size but the leather eventually stretched out a bit (maybe 2 days regular use) to fit my finger; maybe even a tad loose. My only complaint is when I wear it in the proper way (with the coin on the tip of my finger) it gets bent on the tip on the back (see second Pic) which makes it fit strangely. I actually prefer to wear it in reverse with the metal part on top of my finger as my needle never hits there anyway and this allows it to fit better. Just wish there was one large enough for my thumb! So if you have big fingers, give it a shot. It's more likely to stretch out and fit than a fully metal one (or those adjustable copper ones - not comfortable at ALL).Editing 2 months later:So I'm finding myself needing to buy a new one because my old one (with daily use) got too large (on my finger) and thin, and the leather no longer had grip and had thinned out quite a bit. On both sides. Sorry there's no pics for some reason the app isn't allowing me to upload.3I love using the Clover Leather Coin Thimble I don't do a lot of hand sewing, but when I do, I love using the Clover Leather Coin Thimble!I sewed a couple pillows and had to do the closure by hand. After doing those with no thimble, I had an epiphany and realized that tough fabric is the reason thimbles exist. I found this one from the good reviews and purchased it. I have used it for a couple of projects and it works great! It is comfortable and easy to catch and push a needle. What more could you want? 5Comfortable Used when learning Sashiko embroidery. Leather stretches quickly, and feel comfortable in just hours. If it gets too loose, I'll just wet it and start over. Does the job I intended it for, and saved my fingertip, which already is pained from neuro conditions. 5Leather Coin ThimbleI was disappointed with this leather coin thimble because it is too bulky and the quilting thread continuously became "caught" on the end tip of the thimble. I gave this thimble a "5" for durability b/c I believe it would be VERY durable over time due to the leather material. I had hoped this was the answer to a great thimble ;>(2Best thimble everI needed to do some hand sewing on thick vinyl because there were too many layers for my domestic machine to handle, so I ordered this thimble.Using this, I was able to comfortably push a leather needle through 6 layers of heavy weight vinyl quite a few times. Even when I pushed so hard that the needle bent, this thimble held up fine. I truly love it. The leather is also soft enough that it's super comfortable, but it still holds up well if you have the needle back against the leather rather than the coin. The coin itself absolutely does not dent or bend at all.The size fits my middle finger perfectly, but FYI I do have thick fingers (I wear a size 10 ring on that finger)5I had to stretch mine -- now a five star item.I had to stretch mine, but now it's a five star item.My index finger is just a bit under 2 5/16" diameter at that first knuckle. (male)I wet it thoroughly, stuffed the tip with paper and packed it in tightly with a tool. Then I shoved the bottom of a full sized BIC lighter in it. I let it dry outside in the heat. If it's winter or too humid where you are, dry it with a hairdryer. When I was done, it was a bit big, so I wet it again and let it dry outside to shrink the leather a bit. It fits perfect now. This is made of a very fine grade of glove-like leather. It's like a one knuckle glove. Soft and comfortable, very nice indeed.Highly recommended.5My favorite kindMy puppy chewed pretty much all my thimbles, rubber, leather, and I replaced with my favorite kind. Thank God she s out of that stage! I like this kind because it s not too hard and after a while your finger hurts and has a dent, or too hard rubber and your finger sweats and get prune-y. I like leather the best.5Best I have found. Well made.I buy one of these about every 9 to 12 months because I quilt every day. It s the only one I have found that is flexible and sturdy enough. I put an extension on it to help hold it on. Just waterproof tape , I never remove it. It keeps it on tighter but still comes off.5Wrong finger, right thimbleI taught myself to hand-quilt and, not knowing any better, I used the thimble on my forefinger instead of the middle finger. After several quilts I found out this was wrong but it was really too late to un-learn the habit so this is the way I've quilted for twenty years. A leather thimble is the only way this can be done and this is the best one I've found. It is about 1/4 inch taller than the Fons and Porter one so it stays on better. The leather makes it easier to pull the needle through and the "coin" protects your finger. Of course, the leather around the coin eventually wears and the coin gets lose. I open the little double patch on the back to make a pocket, put the coin in and reverse the thimble to get a little more wear out of it.This is the perfect thimble if you have arthritis. The leather conforms to your finger.5Very comfortable! Glad I have it nowI'm new to quilting, and wasn't sure which thimble would be best for me, so I bought both this thimble and the Clover 6026 Medium Protect and Grip. I am extremely more happy with the Leather Coin thimble, and think it will be my go-to thumble, while the 6026 will be a back-up or something I wear on my non-dominant hand. The Leather Coin is very soft and comfortable, and is easy to manuver with the needle since it's made of natural leather. I found that it offers more protection, even if you don't always use the "coin." It's a bit bulky on the fingertip, but doesn't get in the way since it's flexible. In comparisonhe 6026 is very snug (I bought a medium, and have average sized fingers). Also, the 6026 is not very breathable so my finger gets really warm... almost a little sweaty so I don't like it as much as the Leather Coin model.5
