Customer Reviews

A product I come back to time and time againLet me just say-- I LOVE this stuff. My mother has been using this stuff for years on her various art projects, so I grew up using it. When I needed to make figures for our production of Hunchback of Notre Dame, I thought of this product immediately. It's so easy to use-- easy to mold, easy to dry, easy to paint. It's even sandable in case the texture it has after drying isn't what you want. I will say, this stuff isn't ideal for something that is going to be thrown/ has the potential of being dropped a lot-- I used this on a separate project on my production and there was some cracking issue from being dropped. However, for any other art projects, I couldn't recommend this product more.5DisappointedAfter trying this just once, I didn't find that I could get very good results with this using the Prima silicone molds. The clay left crease marks on the surface even after conditioning it. You also have to be careful with smaller items, as the clay shrinks as it dries and as it dries the bottom may not remain flat (at least in my case). If you don't mind creases, I guess it could give your piece a bit of texture (I was making flowers, so no, this was not something I wanted) or you could put small micro beads over the "flaws" etc., then paint (which is the only way I see myself using this in the future). I was expecting to get much better results from the reviews I read here. I think honestly that the Sculpey Polymer Clay works much better (you can condition polymer clay really well using a pasta machine so you won't got little crease marks etc. on the surface of your finished item). I think this is a hit or miss product where sometimes you might get ok results and sometimes not. Be prepared for some failure rate. I definitely would not use this to make furniture knobs etc. I think this is strictly in the craft category. If you have pre-teen children at home this could be a fun art material for them to create things from their imagination and paint later on. I'm not really seeing this as anything spectacular for use with silicone molds to create craft embellishments for mixed media etc. or to create decorative molding for furniture.1Very forgiving and very high quality.I am using this to make my own BJD and it's so amazing. I only last worked with clay in high school. This clay is very forgiving. But if you live in a humid or moist area like I do them you need to let each layer or sculpting dry for about 48-72 hours. Also, work in layers and small bits. If you're trying to sculpt large chunks then you'll regret it.5Easy to shape and dries very lightI bought some for Halloween this year. I had never used the product, or anything like it, before. So I wasn't sure what to expect. I was looking for something that shaped like clay, but would dry as lightweight as possible. We were making large ears for Gremlin costumes. This Paperclay was PERFECT. It was easy to shape, left a great surface finish for painting, and dried light enough to epoxy to a small head band (one blocks worth of clay per head band).4Easy to use for the less than gifted crafterI wanted to make Harry Potter type wands after a tutorial I saw on Youtube using this product. I had never molded anything with clay before so it was a brand new experience for me. I had never heard of Paperclay before and was worried I would mess up the project once I hit 'order now'. Surprisingly it came out well and had enough to make 5 wands. Easy to use and can see myself using this for future projects!5Great Lightweight ClayOverall a great lightweight clay! I used it over an aluminum foil base was well as over cardboard. I was concerned about cracking over the cardboard as the clay layer was about 1/8in thick but it dried perfectly. With some fussing and water it can be smoothed pretty well, I found wetting a scrap of fabric and rubbing it did the trick. It also sands very easily with fine grit sandpaper and takes detail relatively well. It will dry out your hands but that's not a huge issue.5fantastic air dry clay!!I had never used a paperclay before purchasing this a couple weeks ago. I read the reviews and people were raving about it, and for good reason.I use this clay for doll making and sculpting my ugly men, it is exceptional. It is not too sticky and smooths easily with a dab of clean water. Dries beautifully with a little shrinkage and maybe a couple cracks(if you are using styrofoam or aluminum foil forms/core and a thin layer of clay). Cracks are easily filled with a bit of fresh clay and water to smooth them out. When dry, it accepts paint and watercolor, ink, and even dry pastels very very beautifully. The shipping was astounding, I received my clay in my mailbox, two days after ordering it. I will definitely buy more in the future! A great air dry clay for any artist.edit: I saw a review that said they had a bear of a time trying to detail the dry clay... All air dry clay is still delicate even when fully dry. Try changing your tools or doing the details while the clay is wet. Once the clay is dry, you can always add more wet clay to clean up any holes or cuts you drill.5This Clay is amazingI tried 3 different brands and this clay performs amazingly. The dragon and baby dragon in the pictures are made out of this clay. The brick and rocks is with another brand, which I also like. This brand is expensive but it holds great detail, it works fantastic in a mold, and is so easy to work with. It is very smooth and silky. After reading the reviews I was skeptical because of the paper and some statements about the paper fibers but I did not have this experience. It is not overly sticky and shapes easily with tools. I was able to create fine details that I was unable to do with other brands. I love this clay and will be purchasing more of it for my bottle projects. because of the expense I will probably only use it on the fine details of my projects but I am very happy with the results. It did not shrink a lot or crack any while drying. This is my new favorite clay!5Creative Paperclay for Modeling, Clay molds and more LOVE IT!Hi, this is the clay of choice for me. Soft, easy to use, if you re package it in between using it,, will not dry out. I am using for the IOD Prima molds and love the quality of this paper clay. I purposely left a small amount in a double bag, one zip lock inside a larger bag to see if it would dry out and it did not, just ensure you release all of the air out of the zip bag. Worked for me. I purchased two of these along with other paper clay products to try with my new molds, love love this one and will get again, so easy to use and mold into the delicate designs especially when using the Iron Orchid Design molds.I am utilizing these for little wooden boxes, furniture and more. I am showing some pictures, also with my reviews of the molds, to show you the quality of this paper clay. drying process, some still look damp, I may have used too much, still playing with it, so you can see how these pieces turn out. Most of the pictures are with this brand, if you see some thicker ones, my boo boo, I used another brand, that I did not like as much, but it still worked okay. This is fun, great for you and the kiddos, start something, a project, this will teach them patience, ha ha, ask me I know! Anyway I hope you found this review helpful, please ask any questions, I will answer all of them. I also read all of the reviews before I purchase, as I am on a really fixed income, so I appreciate those that take the time to speak their mind, give hints and tips and also recommend a product, here on Amazon, that they like love as well. Sure helps, so thank you guys and gals! Much appreciated by this lady! :) Thank you for reading my review, have fun with this clay! My fave! :) Kat5The best paperclay on the marketThis has to be the best paper clay ever made! It hardens so well, with little to no shrinkage. Once hardened, it paints like a dream! I use this with thick silicone molds and have not had any complaints. It is well worth the price, as for some reason, I'm unable to find it in our local craft stores. I try to keep an unopened pack available at all times. If for some reason, you don't use the whole pack, simply put in a ziplock bag and make sure you seal it tight and the clay will last for months without hardening.5One Of The Best! Easy to work with. When kept properly packaged it stores nicely. Dries well with minimal shrinking, but it does shrink and may crack during the drying, but once dry, I just fill-in with more clay and it works great. Quite sturdy once dry, and even more sturdy when painted and varnished. Sands nicely as well. Takes acrylic paint well - comes out very matte. It does NOT take matte varnish well however....I have tried different paint brands, different matte varnishes, even tried many matte sealants first, but no matter what, it ALWAYS comes out glossy during the varnishing/sealing. Other than that, I love this clay.Tip: a bit of clean, cold, water works to smooth fresh clay, keep it from sticking to your fingers, and a dab of water on sticky clay will keep two pieces of clay together very well to help hold in place while blending. 5
