Customer Reviews

They have changed the design....I have been using brain picks for years now, they are probably my favorite pick. I was finally down to my last brain pick and ordered some more here, price what about the same. So they arrived, and they are VERY DIFFERENT, the grip teeth aren't as grippy, the picks are actually a different thickness now, the taper on the edge of the pick is only one sided, and the picks are also slightly larger. I though I just got some clones or something so I went to a local guitar center to grab some because I wanted the right one. Ends up they are the same there which means that D'Andrea, for some crazy reason has cheaped out on the picks and are making them like crap now. Very sad day for me, no longer can I suggest these picks. Pics are new pick on the left and CORRECT brain pick on the right.2Comes in a neat tin and is sturdy.I bought this for my sister who had one pick and really needed some more picks. Normally she buys one not because of the price but because of how small these items are. It was easily lost. This product suits her just fine, even though she has lost one or two already, the fact that it comes in a neat tin is good for her. She keeps the tin in her guitar case. She says the quality is top notch and I really do hear a difference in her playing now. So as of now I would surely recommend this for any guitarist out there. I can't comment on the other types besides the nylon string guitar that my sister plays, I don't know if these work on the other types but they do feel pretty sturdy if that helps.5... over 40 years and this is my all time favorite guitar pickBeen playing guitar for over 40 years and this is my all time favorite guitar pick. (Brand....I buy 3 different thicknesses from the same brand). These are hard to drop as there are grip nubs on both sides and they really help the pick for 'staying put'. I play purple for acoustic and the black for electric. (green for recording occasionally but green is great for teaching strumming technique for people that have a hard time strumming the strings smoothly, or attack the strings too hard.Update: Wow! I am really disappointed in the new Snarling Dogs .60 (purple) The pick feels thinner (like the green pick gage) and the edges of the plastic looks like it just came out of a plastic jig, all jagged. The quality and feel has gone to hell. Looks like I'll be looking for another brand. After all these years my search resumes.2Best picks everI still have a red one out of the pack I bought like 15 years ago, it's been chewed on by my boxer and still works fine. I haven't been able to find these anywhere since. I got the purple ones because I prefer a slightly lighter pick. I'm not sure what is going on with negative reviews stating these aren't as high quality as they used to be, I found my Boston terrier gnawing on one a few days ago and... It still plays fine, this time I had to throw it out because she got the tip.5No longer the same... DisappointingI have no idea how I came across this pick, but over the years, it has become my all-time favorite (0.60mm brain pick in purple). Which is why I was pleasantly surprised to find it on Amazon, and instantly ordered 2 boxes - one in 0.60mm and one in 0.73mm.The day it arrived, I opened the boxes with excitement. Weird. The 0.60mm felt filmsier than mine, and the quality control was bad. If you look at the photo, you'll notice that the edges are not finished properly - it's as if the finished product was just taken out of the plastic mould without any further processing. My old brain pick looks and feels so much better even though it has seen a few years of playing. Not only that, the new picks do not sit flat on a surface - characteristic of poor quality. My old pick still does! It's amazing. The trademark dots for friction also feel terrible on the new ones. On my old brain pick, the dots feel subtle but extremely effective. Both boxes had the same issues, so it is not a batch problem. The 0.73mm pick was closer to my old 0.60mm pick in thickness, so I recommend you get that at least if you are playing the acoustic guitar. But these picks are no longer the same... just feels like cheap plastic now.Until Snarling Dogs improve their quality control and goes back to the old days, my old purple pick will remain a special pick to me. If anyone knows where I can get the old brain picks, please let me know!!!2Not as pictured, and a change for the worse.I love(d) these picks. I use the red and green ones all the time. I got down to a single green, and ordered another tin. When they arrived, it was immediately apparent that they were different by the way they felt. My picture shows three versions - the early green (with no bevel around the text) and a few year's ago red. Both of these I'm okay with, they have subtle but effective grip that feels even. The new green (with large text and bevel around both the text and grip pad) I don't like at all. They aren't comfortable, the bevels hurt my thumb, and it feels like there's a hole in the middle of the pick. If it wasn't for the tin it came in, I would think maybe these were counterfeit.Perhaps someday I'll uncover some of these with the earlier grip designs. Until then, I'll have to find an alternative to Brain Picks.2Best picks around!I stumbled upon these picks many years ago, and haven't looked back since! They are the ONLY picks I will use now. The grip is unreal, and the durability is amazing. Most picks break twice as fast as these take to wear out. Notice I said these wear out, not break. I've never once broken one. I've only worn them down so small that they aren't practical anymore. And this takes a long time to do!TL;DR: Picks good. Buy.5PerfectPurchased the .73 mm picks expecting them to be more appropriate for guitar and most definitely found them to be (found them good home). Nice picks though.I've got a couple 1.14 mm that were handed to me and they're happening, but slightly stiffer than is comfortable to me; I like a slight bend with a bit more than minimal pressure. The 1 mm is perfect and regardless of the thickness of these picks, they GRIP as though they find just the place in the fingerprint of your thumb and forefinger.I have found my perfect pick for bass, when I pick. I'm not sure why a six stringer wouldn't be all over the appropriate thickness of these.5Excellent grip pick with the proper stiffnessThis is in my top two picks of all time. I was looking for a grip pick that would be comparable to a Fender medium, the standard for comparison. This, though nylon, fit the bill in almost every respect. It is the right stiffness at 1.0 mm, has a good comfortable no-lose grip and wears and wears without breaking. The nylon material is a little softer than celluloid or the newer materials (Ultrex, Tortex), and the edges are not completely smooth until you play with it for a while. The tone is a a tiny bit softer than the Dunlop Primetone, my number one pick. This is my number two.5Now my goto picks for machine gun punk bassWhen I joined punk band a couple years ago on bass, I hadn t used to pick on bass guitar very much before. Only here in there. But this band played hard and fast and I needed the perfect pick. Took me a few weeks to test several and I landed on this thickness of nylon. But I was really uninspired by the normal gray nylon picks, so these are the winners. #Purple I don t use them for guitar as much because I like something a little thicker, but I have started using them a little more for guitar, too.5
