Beautiful Kit!
This is a great stocking kit! The colors are bright and beautiful, and the design is very pretty. Great for a person who likes Christmas, but doesn't need the overwhelming Christmas present/Santa feeling that other stockings have! It is a relatively easy kit to complete, mainly half and cross stitches. The Aida Cloth is a good size that makes for easy sewing. Unlike other kits, I found that there was enough thread to complete the project. The new format of glueing thread to the cardboard is a bit irritating, but it's easily solvable by removing all thread from the cardboard & placing each color in a Ziploc bag. Great Christmas gift for a family member!
5Dimension counted cross stitch kits are great!
This stocking will be my 18th stocking since 2013, will only use Dimensions for stockings.I love how the floss comes already sorted. The key for the chart needs to come on its own sheet, always have to make a copy of it because it is on the other side of the chart.
5Beautiful Christmas Stocking
I finally finished putting the whole stocking together and absolutely love the design! It took me a while to make (since I work a lot) and I was a little intimidated about sewing it all together, but I watched a few online videos and it came out better than I expected :-DMaking the cross stitch design was very straight forward and easy (but I've been cross stitching for over 15 years). It comes out looking beautiful! Some people complain that the thread is now glued onto the swatch that comes in the kit, so to keep the thread organized I fold up each color and then loosely knot it. I also use a single hole punch at the top of each color so that I can put the thread in those holes after I pull it out to keep it all clean and organized. One thing that is disappointing is that they just give you a felt back to finish the stocking with, which is sub-par for this type of work. Instead of using just that, I went to a local fabric store and got some light blue velvet for the back of the stocking and some red satin to use as a liner. You will need a sewing machine and some basic sewing skills to finish the stocking. I am not very experienced at using the machine, so I used a few extra bits of fabric to get the right tension for the sewing. I also used the felt that they included in the kit by spraying an adhesive to the felt and then laying it onto the back of the velvet to add a bit of extra support. After watching a bunch of videos online, I finally got my stocking put together and it is now hanging proudly in my apartment :D
5A beautiful stocking
I love working on counted cross stitch Christmas stockings. This one is true to form for Dimensions and is a perfect, fun and easy to complete stocking. The instructions are easy to read and the floss is on pre-sorted cards making it faster to get started and easy to insure you are using the correct color.
4Great gift
I've never done cross stitching before, but I decided to purchase this kit and make a stocking for my mom (which only seemed fair, since she made one for me and each of my siblings when we were infants). It was a lot. of. work. It took me over a year to finish the stocking, but recognize that I'm a perfectionist and re-did weeks of work if I realized I made a mistake somewhere. I finished the stocking though and was able to give it to my mom as a special gift! I really appreciate that the kit made this as easy as possible and included everything I needed in order to complete this gift (except for a hoop).
5Buyer Beware: Didn't Include or Shortchanged Floss
Love the stitching it so far. Problem is they completely shortchanged two major colors: white (11001) and the pale/blue/purple (17004), two colors that create the snowman and snow. They only provided one strand of the 17004 and absolutely no white. Fortunately I had floss from other projects so I could substitute.
2What a beautiful challenge!
I am half way working on this stocking (from the top of the houses to the bottom) but I felt I needed to do a review. It has been a year since I started, but between two kids and running a home day care plus my other projects, I have worked about six months on this. It is so beautiful. This is my first cross stitch in twenty years and it is pretty easy. However, plan on spending a little more money on supplies such as thread organizers and needles (both of mine broke). If I had to pick one thing to change, it is that they use so much combined colors, it really slows me down. I did run out of one color, but it appears I was just short 10 stitches, so I just used a color close to it and did a little blending. I am hoping this is done by next Christmas (fingers crossed).
4First stocking I made!
I did the candy cane Santa stocking for my husband, and it's BEAUTIFUL! It was delivered really quickly, and I finished it in 3 months. I did decide to go with a nice dark green velvet for the backing, as the felt provided, I felt, would make a nicer lining for the inside of the stocking. I can't wait to hang it in my home and start the one I bought for myself!
5Beautiful and Nicely Organized
This stocking is lovely, and the kit is well organized. I love that the floss comes pre-sorted. The colors are vibrant, and the aida cloth is sturdy. This is a long project, but not particularly difficult--there is very little blending of floss, and only cross, half cross and backstitch included in the pattern. I did modify the pattern by using quarter and three quarter cross stitches to smooth out the lines a bit. The only issue I had was that the plan comes in three parts, and it isn't clear where the overlap is. Once I figured out where the pattern overlapped, I took a highlighter and put lines across the pattern so I didn't end up stitching the lines twice. I do like that the plans are big and detailed, I just wish they had indicated the overlap at the beginning. Definitely worth the effort!
5Fun, relaxing activity
Fun, relaxing activity. Nothing like sitting at home stitching and listening to a podcast/audiobook/the radio. It was my first time doing a cross stitch project and it took me literally forever to finish this thing. (I am talking YEARS here, though I wasn't exactly stitching for hours every day.) One down side is that they don't give you thread to stitch in the background green color. I didn't like that it was left exposed at the end so I bought some other thread to fill it in. If they had provided light green thread for the background I'd have given 5 stars.
