Customer Reviews

Not What I Was Expecting, but Adorable!! This is not totally what I was expecting when I purchased it, but I loved it anyways! I usually do Cross Stitch, but when my sister said she loved this design, I grabbed it, not realizing it was needlepoint! For a beginner needlepointer, I found this kit really easy to follow and the design is absolutely adorable! While it is a bit strange for me to use 12 threads at a time or wool thread, I found this kit to be really quick and easy to complete. The penguins are precious and the snowflake pattern behind is very easy to do. It took a few tries to get the snowflake white design to look perfect, but it came out great in the end! I will definitely be doing more needlepoint in the future, and I've been keeping my eye out for more patterns like this! 5Cheap quality I have never been so disappointed, disgusted, and frustrated with a product to be driven to writing a bad review. I have needlepointed several stockings over the years, so needlepointing isn't new to me. The quality of Dimensions needlepoint kits has deteriorated over the years, definitely taken a dive.My main issue with this particular kit is the thread. It must be so cheap, because it tangles extremely easily and somehow ties itself into knots, when getting tangled. I have wasted so much time untangling it. Also, have lost a lot of thread due to having to cut the knots out. The lengths of thread in one strand aren't even of equal length, as I would expect them to be.It also seems that the pattern wasn't imprinted on the canvas correctly, because if you follow the colors exactly, the sides don't go straight down until the boot. It would end up very small and uneven, if you follow the colored pattern. I have had to improvise and add stitches on the sides in order for it to be even. It's too bad there aren't many companies to choose from for Christmas stockings, because I won't be buying from Dimensions again. 2Beautiful stocking I have not yet finished the stocking back, and I did purchase a light quilt for the backing, and will line it in time for Christmas 2018. I am not a fan of floss for all the reasons mentioned in other reviews, but I did use the materials included. I DID NOT separate the floss except for the few places where the floss was a combined color set. I also loved the way the floss was separated in the package. It did take awhile, but the joyousness of the image is great and it was well worth the effort! And the colors are so vibrant. The biggest problem I will have is giving it to its intended recipient. I want to keep it! 5This seemed to be the perfect answer. Upon careful inspection upon delivery I became ... I have been looking for a "California themed" needlepoint Christmas stocking for several months to make for my future grandson. This seemed to be the perfect answer. Upon careful inspection upon delivery I became very disappointed. The canvas containing the pattern missed/did not display key portions of the design. The vertical ribbons of the hot air balloon dividing the sections were not present. In the middle section both Santa and the penguin were practically invisible. Outlines on the holly leaves are nonexistent as with the penguin s hat and the outline of Rudolph much less his antlers/ears. However the selection of yarn was right on. With a little help from the local needlepoint store I was able to purchase additional yarn of 50%wool and 50% silk in similar shades more in line with the fabrics used for hot air balloons.Where in the world does the concept of the bottom colors on the balloon having jagged edges next to the upper section come from? This is not easy to translate onto needlepoint canvas. I am also changing the toe and name banner to a Royal Blue wool/silk yarn blend. After all it is intended for a boy. Please note I would have happily paid more if I had a guarantee that the entire pattern was transferred correctly to the canvas. May I make some recommendations? Ask the designer to hand trace the pattern onto a needle point canvas. This is one way to be sure that the pattern makes use of the squares only and not the space in between. Better QA inspection and/or modification of the process needs to be reevaluated. Certainly better QA on the print-transfer line would be a real plus. Please note that although canvases in the needlepoint store were beyond my budget starting at $300, I was willing to pay more than $50.00 for this kit provided the pattern was transferred correctly. As I started working on it I was hopeful I could work through these issues. I am very slowly continuing to work on it even though I had higher expectations to begin with. 3Not very good quality This is a very pretty design. and the fabric and threads are good quality. However, the chart is horrible. Several symbols are supposed to be green (I think), but on the chart I received, they are actually very pale yellow. This makes it almost impossible to read them and it makes using the chart very difficult. In addition, there is one color that is only used for half cross stitch (which I am NOT doing) that has two symbols, one for 3 threads, whereas the rest of the half cross stitch is supposed to be done with 4 threads, and one with one thread, which I have to believe is a mistake. I attempted to get some information from the Dimensions website, and they do not provide errata or any other reasonable way to inquire about problems or mistakes in their products. This is the first Dimensions kit I have purchased in quite a while, and I am extremely disappointed in it. 2Absolutely stunning! A little challenging, but worth it. I got this kit for a great deal through Amazon Warehouse. I had never purchased a Warehouse item before but decided to roll the dice. The description said the kit was slightly damaged...it was literally a small cut in the cellophane packaging. Did not affect the contents at all! What a deal for an intricate, absolutely beautiful stocking. To give you a sense of the difficulty level, his hat alone took about 16 hours...lots of shades of gray and white in that furry brim! But soooo worth it. On a scale of one to ten, with ten being the hardest needlepoint out there, this one is about a 7.5. There are a lot of colors going on in the toys, his beard and face, his sleeve, and his cuff. That's why he is so richly textured and vibrant. The floss was neatly separated and labelled, and the instructions and diagrams were clear and easy to follow. I ignored the instructions to separate individual strands to "fluff" the floss; instead, I just pay close attention to stitch tension and don't pull each one too tightly, and take care not to twist the strand as I work. The end result is a full, stunning, heirloom-quality stocking that my adult kids are fighting over. Prettiest stocking I've ever made, and this is my sixth. 5Easy enough for someone with no needlepoint experience. This was my first needlepoint and the directions were easy to follow. It turned out super cute for my daughter's Christmas stocking. I have done small cross stitch projects in the past and I was pleasantly surprised how quickly this came together. Don't get me wrong, it does take a long time and I wouldn't expect to finish it a week before Christmas, but it is totally worth the effort. The only part I didn't like is the felt backing. I chose to use some quilted fabric from the craft store because felt just seemed like a cheap finish after all that effort. With that said, I still give it five stars because it turned out great and I will be purchasing another dimensions stocking to make for my second daughter. 5Never again - stick to wool for needlepoint Oy, what a nightmare. I've needlepointed for 50 years, but never with floss. If I wasn't making this on request as a gift, I would have tossed it. From now on, I'll pay extra and stick to wool for quality needlepointing.1. Each strand of floss needs to be separated into its 6 individual threads and then re-integrated back into a single strand. Separating the strand causes the threads to kink slightly (which I guess is the point as it gives the reassembled strand more loft/thickness for coverage), which makes putting them back together neatly a real chore. The same result could be accomplished without the headache by JUST USING WOOL.2. The needle's eye is too small to accommodate the reassembled strands. I broke 2 needle threaders, and then switched to a large needle.3. I literally spent more time separating/reassembling strands, and trying to thread that darn needle, than I did on the actual stitching. 2Moderate difficulty but stunning colors!! The colors in this stocking are stunning! A moderate level of skill is needed to navigate the color changes, but nothing a person with time and focus cannot overcome. The threads are separated on a very handy set of cards, and the diagram is clear and well-labelled, so finding the right color is easy. On a scale of one to ten, with ten being the most difficult kit out there, I'd rate this a five. There was plenty of thread left over. I ignored the instructions to separate the strands of each piece of floss...who has time for that? Instead, I just paid close attention to my stitch tension and had no problems whatsoever. The finished product came out nice and full. It is an absolutely wonderful stocking...so whimsical and wintry. I highly recommend it! 5Vibrant colors, low level of difficulty, great kit! This is a beautiful, playful, festive kit. The colors are vibrant and it is a relatively easy needlepoint project. The 12 gauge size makes it easier to see than a 14 gauge. The instructions, diagram guide and presorted threads/yarns make it easy to work and manage. Had a lot of threads and yarn left over -- there is plenty provided! As for folks who complain about the stamped-on colors being too vague...that is what the diagram is for. Plus, unlike cross stitch, needlepoint is forgiving. You'll have fun with this kit. 5
