Customer Reviews
Great for Deck SpeakersBought these for outside speakers on my back deck to use for Zone 2 speakers with my Yamaha RX-V677 receiver. Work and sound great. Happy as hell for Outdoor speakers at this price sounding as good as they do. I turned up the volume to about 80% of max to see about distortion and had none, Was afraid to keep going all the way up in case one of the neighbors might want to call the cops. Put out way more volume than I expected from a cheap set of speakers. Simple to mount and the brackets seem to do a good job holding them in place.5Decent speakers, gets the job done, not very loud, sound quality is ok, easy to install, but wouldn't really buy again. These speakers are ok, nothing special. Pretty easy to install, but think the design of it isn't as well thought out.If you plan to use it outside, you really don't want to hang it vertically, you'd hang it horizontally, and you'd have to tilt it downward. This would prevent the rain from getting blown into the hole. In doing so, the knobs that you use to tighten the brackets to the side sometimes slips, so you can't always get it as tight as you want it to be. Which then makes the speaker gradually slip down completly. As far as the speakers themselves. I have a Denon AVR-X2200W pushing the speakers (which is a $700 speaker system, so not a cheapy) that pushes them. However, you really have to crank up the unit for the speakers to get any real volume. So, I'm not too happy with the speakers. However, they get the job done. Just wanted something to play some music outside, while I'm out in the yard, but didn't want to get anything crazy where I'd be bothering my neighbors. So, if I were to do it again, I think I'd get something a bit smaller where I could get the same results.3Sounds great but look like ass over time.Loved the sound of the speakers and the great price / ease of installation, but the grille rusts out in less than a year. I placed these on a covered deck at my condo that sits near a bay - not the ocean, mind you.. a bay, and in no time they looked like ass with paint chipping and rust dripping off the grille.I have since swapped them out with a cheaper pair of OSD outdoor speakers since it is apparent that I will be swapping the speakers out annually. It would be nice if these companies with "outdoor" or "marine" speakers start using a plastic grilles. The grille was supposedly removable but that wasn't the case. had to force it off then glue it back on.Picture of the rusted product attached. Glad I didn't spend a lot of money on outdoor speakers since probably no brand stands up well to the elements, even in a covered implementation.3Budget speaker with decent soundI use these as outdoor patio speakers for a rental home. The sound quality is actually better then I expected. The range is nice for the price. Vocals are not too muddled. I don't expect them to be Bose or Definitive quality. Bass response is decent. All depends on what you are looking for. You want something affordable that sounds decent then you're good with these. If you want crisp high and deep bass then plan on spending more. These are outside year round in Wisconsin weather. I wish the grills were removable for cleaning. I had one speaker blow within a year. Not sure if it was a speaker issue or a renter issue. Being that only one blew leads me to believe it was the speaker that failed. Hoping this pair lasts longer.3sound quality,,, not. don't waste your moneyMy wife bought these for xmas, to use on the deck because they say they are weatherproof. Since it's winter I hooked them up in the house and gave them a month to break in. The sound quality is horrible. There is 0 bass. I ran some sine waves at them to see/ hear the truth. At 50 hertz, there is no sound, at 125 hertz you can start to hear them. Pyle specs 30 to 22k hertz. not even close. They just published a number. enough about 0 bass. Midrange not too bad, but not good. Hi frequency isn't much better than the bass. At a 9k test tone the tweeters break up and not much sound output. Very distorted even at low volume. So a frequency response is about 125 hz to 10khz about normal for a cheap $60.00 pair of speakers. I have owned at least 20 pairs of speakers in my 61 years, of all price ranges and these are the worst I have ever owned. I have had transistor am radio's from 1960's that sounded better. lol save your money for a better speaker. Background. audiophile 45 years. speaker designer. Someone else said these are a pyle and they sure are. Also the grill is glued on. won't be easily removable. I failed to mention one of the grills came dented. No problem. I will use them on the deck till they die, because my wife bought them for me. Maybe later i will change the drivers if the cabinets are worth putting $100.00 worth of speakers in.1Puts out the sound!I have these outside my shed so I can listen to stuff while I work. They have been there for about 4 months, through a couple near hurricanes and still work as well as when installed. Speaking of, installation was very easy--mount bracket, attach and wire. I did not use the provided black/red wires as I wanted a wire color that would be less obvious (I ran the wires externally). Note: I use a normal, possibly loud outside voice volume, I have not tried them at ear-drum shattering levels (beyond the initial how loud will it go? LOUD).5Good decent sound quality. Take some precautions to get the most out of themI was well aware of the reviews about horizontal mounting and the grill rusting issues before I purchased these. I decided to buy them and take some precautions in extending their use/looks. First, I mounted them vertically so there wouldn't be an issue with the bolts stripping. Second, I bought a pair of shower caps to cover the speakers during bad weather so they hopefully won't rust. For now I am very happy with the speakers and there sound. I have them hooked up to Zone 2 on my Onkyo home theater receiver. I ran 14 gauge copper wire to the speakers. For the price, you obviously aren't getting booming base speakers but they are very clear and serve there purpose.I turned them on and walked 100 yards down the hill and could clearly hear the music.I live in northern AZ where the summer monsoons can easily destroy anything left outside and unprotected especially during a microburst. With the monsoon starting in just a few days, I will update this review at the end of September and let you know if they hold up.4It came down to dollars and sense.I like these a lot. I searched around quite a bit. It came down to dollars and sense. The speakers running $200+ just did not make much sense. I just needed a decent set of speakers that I can listen to when hanging out in my back yard. I wanted something loud enough to hear but not bring down the house. I found a number of contenders but I settled in on these. I was a bit skeptical at first because they seemed too cheap but I ordered anyway. I am very happy with them. Very good sound. Really nice mid and high range. A little bass. Not going to rock the siding off of your house. Use a nice thick wire and you'll get good sound. The only thing I was not thrilled about was the mounting brackets and bracket screws. The brackets are very thin and flimsy. They do the trick but not terribly sturdy. Some of the bracket screws came with the plastic twist cap broken. The other broke in my fingers while tightening into the speaker.Like the sound and the price but mounting assembly could have been better.4Still work well after lots of abuse
I bought these for our 78 cj5 Jeep. It doesn't have a top and we use it for off roading in all kinds of conditions. The Jeep is in a garage most of the time, but when it's used, it is for some ruff stuff. They have held up well in the heavy dust, dirt, rain, mud, and wind. I do put a plastic bag over them when I power wash the inside, then use a hose to clean the mud off the speakers. They are abused beyond what they were made for but still work well and the sound is still rock'n!
5I hooked them up to a new Sony AV unit that has 2 100w channels so my speakers were getting 50w of power and given the 500w max rating they should have been absolutely fine. HoweverI ordered 2 pairs of these for a 4 speaker surround. 2/4 of the speakers were blown upon arrival / had an overwhelming crackle. I hooked them up to a new Sony AV unit that has 2 100w channels so my speakers were getting 50w of power and given the 500w max rating they should have been absolutely fine. However, being played at moderate volume, the speakers that were working had terrible sound quality, sounding as if they were struggling the entire time.Maybe I received 4/4 bad speakers and the company would like to try again, but as for now I'm leaving this review so others know what their in for. I would also like to state that this is my first review in 50+ amazon purchases, and I really don't enjoy slamming products on here that entrepreneurs work hard to sell, but in my opinion this product doesn't deserve a spot on Amazon.1Can't stop rockin! These are great speakers for outdoor use! Sound quality is excellent, including the bass which is lacking in a lot of speakers of this size and price range. We've had these speakers for 4 1/2 years and just leave them outside even in winter, and they still sound like new! The cabinets are a white all weather plastic that will get dingy from dirt and exposure to the sun, but that happens to pretty much all plastic things left outside. But, I didn't want to just throw these away just because they didn't look so good anymore, so I painted them to match our patio furniture color. The grills are removable too which made this a pretty easy project. Now these 4 1/2 year old speakers look as good as they sound once again! I've had good Iuck with Pyle products and will buy another set of Pyle speakers assuming the one's I already have ever quit! I would recommend these speakers anytime!5
