Customer Reviews

A Good Mood EnhancerThis adds a great level of atmosphere to any fantasy game, not just D and D, and it is a nice blend of sound effects and instrumentals. I like the way that it does capture the essence of high fantasy in a musical context, but I was hoping to hear a little more classical style music, or even something a little more operatic. I think something with more antique instruments would have made for a better fantasy sounding soundtrack, but it was a good one, and reasonable for the price. It is well worth buying, and it adds a nice air of ambiance to any gaming session, not just D and D.4WOOF!This CD encompasses The Halloween Spirit. The foggy mystery is in the kettle drums, shrouded by the organ and then buried by the eerie vocals. This CD is very well orchestrated. My ghouls love it. I play this with other CD's (Transylvania and Phantoms of the High Seas.) from different locations. It creates quite the effect. With this CD you can envision the dark castle, smokey catacombs and even the silent crypt. Love It.5A great encounters album. This soundtrack is very well arranged and produced, and if you were to just throw it on, people would wonder what it was while simultaneously enjoying the music. However, if you are running a gaming group, this album can really enhance the experience. A dragon is about to swoop down onto your group? There is a track for that. Being chased by some hardcore bad guys, or perhaps the town watch? Gotcha covered. About to descend into the Underdark? Yep...got that. Pretty much any type of encounter or situation has its own soundtrack if you have this album.Enjoy!5action packed for sureA great soundtrack, filled with many epic and intense tracks, though i think a lack of subtle and lighthearted tracks keeps it from a 5 star for me. D&D isn't just endless combat, a trip to the town festival or tavern need their share of tracks too.4Received wrong item twice, product labeling is wrongTwice I tried to purchase the Dungeons and Dragons Official Roleplaying Soundtrack, and both times I received the same wrong item. I received Christmas: A Ghostly Gathering instead, because the barcode label on the back of this product is wrong.1just a huge fan of Midnight SyndicateI am just a fan of Midnight Syndicate love the scary music need it for my Discography of the other albums they put out over the years.3I was hoping for more...I've listened to the entire CD a few times off and on, but it simply doesn't inspire me like some other music does. For example the sound tracks from Conan the Barbarian and Conan the Destroyer are EXCELLENT sound tracks to play when playing D&D. There's nothing like you and your cohorts are walking down a forested road, and suddenly the opening theme to Conan The Barbarian starts to play, and you KNOW you are in COMBAT. Your heart begins to race, you're thinking through your options for strategy for the local environment as you draw your sword or your bow, looking around the terrain, wondering where the threat is coming from . It's just cool.Only people who love the genre can understand this. Now, while the music on the Official Role-playing Soundtrack isn't as inspiring, it generally is functional, and as long as it's in the background and doesn't interrupt game play, it can work as a variation.3Great background music that isn't distractingDungeons & Dragons is an excellent disc to play in the background while you're playing the Dungeons & Dragons role playing game or any fantasy game, including homemade games. The music mix is varied with some eerie tracks and some upbeat, militaristic tracks with chanting that suit a battle scene. Nothing is overdone. I've always felt that just about all of Midnight Syndicate's albums are well suited for playing in the background while playing Dungeons & Dragons specifically, and this includes albums such as Born Of The Night, Realm Of Shadows, Gates Of Delirium, Vampyre, and even The Dead Matter. This thought made me hold off on buying the D & D disc for a while. However, I'm glad I finally bought it because there are a lot of good tracks that fit right in for any D & D campaign. A lot of the melodies are pretty catchy. This disc can actually lift your spirits. Don't worry if some of the music doesn't match up with the adventure you're in the middle of. No music is going to completely fit every adventure or dungeon you're involved in, even if you play a specific track whose title is geared toward a specific setting. More than anything, this music is about capturing the spirit of everything that is D & D.Now for my favorites...Prelude, Ride To Destiny, Troubled Times, Descent Into The Depths, Skirmish, Eternal Mystery, Heroes' Valor, Craft Of The Wizard, Deep Trouble, Lair Of The Great Wyrm, Beasts Of The Borderlands, Final Confrontation, Ruins Of Bone Hill, and City Of Sails. Oh, and the final bonus track is funny. The best thing I like about this album is that it isn't distracting music. There is just the right amount of drama without going overboard. This album hits a mammoth home run deep into the centerfield bleachers, and this fan wants a curtain call.Play this album while going through The Keep On The Borderlands, White Plume Mountain, Descent Into The Depths Of The Earth, Tomb Of Horrors, Ghost Tower Of Inverness, The Sinister Secret Of Saltmarsh, Castle Amber, or any other module. Even if you're not into Dungeons & Dragons, the music is reason enough to buy this. It's good stuff. It's listenable and won't distract or overwhelm you. Also, if you like fantasy movies such as Conan The Barbarian, Clash Of The Titans, Excalibur, Lord Of The Rings etc., then this album will be right up your alley. I highly recommend this album.5A great gaming soundtrackSome DMs custom pick songs for their games, but if you don't want to do that, this CD is great. I got it as a gift for my husband, who is also a DM, and he really likes it. listen to it a couple times so you can plan which song to play for your campaign, and go from there, This CD has some really good tracks on it, but I probably won't listen to it by itself since a couple tracks have sound effects like swordfigting overlayed with the music. Overall I think it's unique and cool--certainly worth a try!4Good Background Music/EffectsI actually used this for its original purpose this weekend, we had a game night and I played this through one time. It was good, not too powerful and overbearing at any point, and sometimes it goes from more of a "classical music with fantasy elements" feel to more like ambient sound effects but it all blends well together. I could see myself listening to this while I'm reading in the future.Good CD. I had to wait a little while to receive it from Amazon but that was clear at the time of purchase. Having the tracks available to download immediately was a great option as well.-D5
