Customer Reviews

Stays put no matter how slippery my fingers getI'm by no means a professional guitarist, but even at 44 I still like to immaturely act as if I am when I play in my living room. Bouncing around, spinning, getting really into it. But don't worry boys and girls, only when I'm alone. This spectacle causes my fingers to sweat and because of this holding a pick becomes difficult. I must have tried a thousand picks over the years, but the Tortex is the best pick I've ever used. Great pick attack, perfect bend at .73 and stays put in my fingers no matter how slippery my fingers become. I simply cannot use other picks that are smooth. After bouncing around for 15 or 20 minutes, they just start slipping in my fingers then it becomes a battle to try to squeeze the pick so it won't move which in turn causes me to slow down my picking because I end concentrating on holding the pick and my hand becomes stiff. The texture of the Tortex picks allows a firm grip on the pick while my hand can be relaxed allowing me to have faster picking. I don't even think about my pick hand with these picks.5Same tortex you love, just black. This pick seems to be a black version of the other colored Dunlop tortex picks, which are great picks. I was hoping that it was a different variation. If you don't like the color coding that is currently there for each guage of tortex pick, then this is for you.The downside is that they are hard to find in the dark, and that you need to read a given pick for thickness because they all now look the same.5Finally a .73 Tortex that looks and feels good!Always loved .73 picks, and after years of moving through the .60-.80 mark I settled for the great feel Tortex .73 gave me. I liked the colors they came in but always dreamed of having just a black matte pick. Black and simple, not yellow and screaming for attention. It's great I don't need to make a custom order for them! Pitch Black .73 from now on.I will drill a few little holes in them to add some grip, as that has always been my only issue with them. But for the material and thickness, I feel there's nothing better.5Not a KeeperCelluloid picks used to be my favorite but they wear out too quickly. I got these picks because I read that these are pretty close to celluloid in terms of tone and feel. True. The tone is almost identical to celluloid and I can really feel the strings. However, I found these picks to be incredibly slippery. Wrapping masking tape on the grip end helped. I have since switched to Planet Waves Cortex picks.3Very Good PickPick preference is so personal, but in terms of quality and durability, this one seems fine. I generally prefer the more muted sound of my Blue Chip Jazz 35, but the thinner Dunlop .073 has a crisp click that I also like for rocking out on chords, single lines, and combination picky/strummy. I don t have any trouble with it slipping out of my grip, but then I don t sweat much, and I don t play out. If you must know, it s the pick John Ulhoa of the Brazilian band Pato Fu uses.4One of the best!Big fan of Dunlop tortext picks. I am a virtouso player who does it all at high speed and these picks have great grip for how I love to play. Hard to decide which I like better, these or the Dunlop Tortex Sharps? Highly recommend these though!5Great picks but a word of caution...These picks are excellent, but leave it up to me to get the wrong thing. I've been playing with the Tortex guitar picks for a while now but never realized there is a "jazz" style and a "standard." I bought these picks thinking they were the same size I had been playing with. But when they arrived, to my surprise, they were huge. It wasn't until I did a bit of research that I realized that I'd been playing the "jazz" style.Since it was completely my fault in not doing my research on the product, there is no way I can give these picks anything less than a 5 star review because I know what there capable of. They are super comfortable and don't slip around or wear out easily. My advice is, since they are so cheap, buy the standard, and the jazz picks and see which ones you like better. It is a huge difference in your playing in the size of the pick. Don't make the same mistake I did!5It stays where you put it, that's a good thing!I needed a new pick as the one I had been using was slipping and moving around as I played. After reading some reviews on Amazon about this pick I decided to give it a try, glad I did. There is some kind of coating on it that really locks it in place and prevents the 'travel' my other pick were doing. It stays right where I put it... so far I've only tried the .88 thickness, but I have the .73 on order as well and will review that once I have a chance to play with it some - I expect the same results so if my review for that one is similar - that's why, only so much you can write about a guitar pick after all.5don't buyafter using these picks for a couple gigs, i realized that they do not wear down as you play like the Standard Tortex do. i feel this puts too much wear on the strings which causes them to break.1Finally....I can see who the hell in my band is taking ALL MY DAMN PICKS!!!!!Tried and true Tortex greens (.88) are always my go to, whether acoustic or electric....I lose these picks more than any picks I've tried/lost, and I used A LOT of picks in the years I've been playing (Fender celluloid medium and hard, Max grips, ernie ball medium and hard).Thin enough for the heavy playing my band does, soft enough that I'm not breaking strings, or wearing out the coating on phospher bronze strings on the acoustics too quickly. good grip when new, but smooth out over time, which eventually make them too slick to hang onto. Not a problem too often, but it becomes a pain when I'm a creature of habit and the pick is something you never have to think about. Now that there are black ones (I purchased .88 and 1.0), I don't have to find that lil twat-monger that is stealing them from my gig bag/pick bowl...And when I do find out who it is, I'll be thoroughly kicking you in the baby-maker!5
