Customer Reviews

Does what I want it to do.I read the reviews here on Amazon and was kind of turned off of buying it at first. Eventually I went ahead and sprung for it since it wasn't expensive. I only needed one, and expected the package to come with just one, but it has two locks so that was a pleasant surprise. I've had them for 2-3 months now and they haven't failed me yet. They keep the strap in place just fine and are fairly sturdy for plastic pieces. Really helped a lot because my strap would keep slipping off the knob and I had to use my ninja skills to get the guitar before it hit the floor. The only complaint I have is that they fit a bit tight with my strap (though it could be my nylon strap is just a bit too thick) and they are an EXTREMELY snug fit which makes me kinda nervous. However, I keep them as tight as I can while still allowing them to rotate a bit so everything is fine so far. Not sure why the other reviews were so negative, but I have no complaints.4Caution - Made for thin straps onlyWhen it comes to preventing guitars from detaching from the strap locks, these are one of the best. Dunlop also manufactures a circular version rather than the one shown here which is more like a oversize guitar pick. Both are equally good but my preference favors the circular shaped on since when you move and twist with your instrument, the strap locks move along rather than binds whenever you encounter any sharp or even round edges. Also, you can only use them if you are using thin guitar straps much like the ones made by Ernie Ball which are woven and thin. Anything thicker than 1/8" would be a real knuckle buster since it becomes almost impossible to turn the dial clockwise in order to lock and secure the strap. And if you do manage to rotate the dial through a lot of finger pressure, imagine the difficulty when try to remove the strap. Very painful and downright difficult.3They went on real easy on my Ovation and holds my strap on very ...I put these on 3 different guitars. They went on real easy on my Ovation and holds my strap on very securely. Same for my vintage 1964 Harmony H19. They were difficult to put on my Silvertone knock off of a ES335. It barely fit over the top knob. and at the bottom I had to loosen (not remove) the screw to create enough space, after which I was able to slip it on. They hold the straps very securely on all 3 guitars. The strap used to come off the bottom knob on my Ovation but, not any more. Also, the strap used to come off the top knob on my Silvertone but, now it is very secure. I am extremely pleased. How long the last only time will tell but, for now they do the job very well.5All I will useI've read where people are using bottle caps instead of these. My guitar is more valuable to me than that I suppose, because I'm not trusting that my expensive gitty won't hit the floor. I mean you pay for a quality instrument right? Why on earth would you skimp on keeping it safe? I'm sorry but that's just idiocy in action. This isn't 1960, get an upgrade already. I play standing up 95% of the time, so these are a necessity. I have had these separate on me when taking them off hastily, but all except one snapped right back together. When I first started playing, I had a brand new (to me) guitar hit the floor and the neck break because I didn't use them. That's something that should only happen once in your life, if at all. The only complaint I have is whatever happened to the round ones? They were a bit more appealing to the eye and do the same thing just as well.5Ergo Lok Strap stays with you for lifeI'm using this with an Ovation Balladeer. A guitar with a rounded back that demands you use it with a guitar strap at all times. My guitar strap is over 50 years old, circa 1967, so the leather is a bit worn and it had a tendency to slide off the strap holders on the guitar at the most inopportune times. With these strap loks, the strap never comes off. I leave it on when I put the guitar in the case, and they are there and waiting when I get it back out. I've had it on for 2 and a half months now, with no problems. The hardest part was putting them on, which really wasn't hard at all, just took a moment to understand the mechanics of the mechanism and voila' Bob's your uncle!!Recommend these for anyone who needs to keep their guitar strapped and ready for action. They are plastic and will wear out someday, I'll buy another pair then.5very very goodevery single guitarist that's plays live or even just practices standing up at home has that worry "is my guitar gonna cut lose for my strap and fall down to the floor?" well, there little fellows are a solution, they work just fine, and i think they are reliable. wish they were made it such a way that the securing mechanism were stronger. but i mean, good price, no need to change the guitar's built in strap buttons... 100% recommended... also, i read a review 'bout it not fitting some guy's lp... well obviously, that depends on the strap... but it use these strap locks on my lp standard 1959 vos, and they fit just fine (use it with a gibson asfb-blk strap).4Love These. While taking a guitar theory lesson, the professor mentioned that he'd been using these strap locks for over twenty years and they were not only super cheap but easy to use and had never failed him. I wasn't even aware of their existence, being familiar only with the more elaborate strap lock systems that require you to install them on your guitar and so on.I bought a couple and started using them on my guitars and I couldn't be happier. Maybe if you're one of those acrobatic guitar players that like to make the instrument spin around like a rotor this would fall short of your expectations, but for most purposes it seems to work like a charm. I've tried it with a Strat, a Tele, a thin Epiphone SG and a much heavier Les Paul, and it works great with all of them.Non-professional - as well as non-rich - guitar players know the horrible feeling of having your strap come loose (or even break) while you're in the middle of jamming or performing and, when the guitar is on the heavier side, this often runs the risk of having it fall to the floor or smash into something or someone before you can react. Well, this greatly reduces the chances of that ever happening. You can't beat a deal like that for a couple of bucks.5They Work!I've had some of these for years and finding them was a life saver for my guitars. Took years before I found these online. These allow me to use the straps I prefer without having to modify my guitars with different strap hardware. These are bulky and won't fit on every guitar. Especially if the strap is close to the neck of the guitar. They have fit on all of my guitars. I have acoustics, a hollow body, a semi hollow body, and an electric that I use these on.They don't have as much pivoting range as the strap without but that's no problem for me. I kind of like that the strap is less likely to get twisted when switching from one guitar to another. The plastic is thick and the design is simple yet ingenious. It works great. I've never had ones spin the lock loose on it's own. I think the thickness of the lock creates enough pressure against the strap that that doesn't become a problem. Most of my guitars straps are thick leather though a couple are the cheap thin nylon style. I also don't find the appearance of these to be distracting at all. Even if they did I would still use them for the confidence in security. They work great seated or standing.5CHEAPO PRODUCT AND A FLAWED DESIGN - AVOIDI bought a handful of these to see if they can help keep some of my heavier guitar straps secured. I tried 7 guitars and it only provides a modicum of usefulness on my acoustic. The problems using them are as follows:1) Will not work with leather straps, or straps with leather ends, due to tolerance between strap and guitar and button head.2) Hole designed for easy on/off installation is too small for almost all of my guitars. Had to remove the buttons and put it between the strap and head and screw it back on... pointless.3) When I do finally manage to get the part on my Danelectro that has smaller plastic buttons, it comes off after a few minutes because it doesn't "lock" in, it relies on friction.. also pointless.4) The piece is made of two thin pieces of plastic which come apart when attempting to install. Again this is due to the tolerance, but also the weakness of design holding the pieces together.5) One broke when trying to install on another guitar, because of its brittle plastic material make-up.After dicking around with these for a couple of hours, I finally decided it was less trouble to remove the buttons and use a few appropriate sized zinc washers and rubber donut gaskets. Cost about .15c each. Just screw the button with strap and the washers back on and done.Chalk this one up to a clever idea poorly executed by Jim Dunlop. DO NOT BUY!!-Glennp.s. - I have been playing over 20 years and have used different types of straplocks on over a dozen current guitars. Not my first try with this type of product.1Too thick, too flimsyI recently ordered a pair of these to just test them out (along with some other kinds, like the rubber rings made by Fender) - I read the mixed reviews, but these were inexpensive enough that I decided to just see for myself. It's a nice idea, but poorly executed.First, don't bother with these unless you have a strap with very thin ends. It's simply too thick to fit over my 2-ply leather strap ends, and in trying to force it, I was afraid it would break.Secondly, they should be making these out of metal. They could be both stronger and thinner.I'll hang onto them and maybe find use for them some day but even if they did fit, I wouldn't really trust them on an expensive guitar.2
