Customer Reviews

My favorite picks for electric guitar. These are, far and away, my favorite electric guitar picks.I ve been playing both acoustic and electric guitar for a little over 30 years and I ve used or tried pretty much everything available. I don t usually review products, but when something exceptional comes along, sharing is an obligation and these picks qualify.I ve used Dunlop nylon 1mm picks for acoustic forever. Those were my acoustic picks until I came across Dunlop s newer nylon 1mm MAX-GRIP picks. Those are now my acoustic picks, but that s for another review altogether. While these Primetones are also 1mm, they re much more rigid than the Dunlop nylon 1mm picks. 1.5mm and 2mm Primetones are too rigid and bulky for me, but the 1mm are perfect. I go through picks quickly but these hold up very well.Overall, in my opinion, these Dunlop Primetones exceed others in every way.Different players might choose various thicknesses based on their playing and Dunlop offers several. I am very pleased I came across the Primetones and I d recommend them to everyone.5Professional Pick for High Tension Steel StringsI use this 2mm pick for Mandolin strung with .12s and my Dreadnaught acoustic with .13s. It projects really well and works for almost any sound I need from it. I use 1mm for my OM strung with .11s. The price is a little high, but the quality is good and I like the peace of mind that it has been hand burnished. I have used the "grip" option and really didn't like it. They look weird, I don't think it really helps with grip, and they got dirty from my hands very quickly. For this price I really recommend skipping any of the grip options. The smooth surface grips really well assuming that you have proper technique...5Primetone 2.5mm are perfect - Solid feeling, thick, inflexible, slip-free picks that add no pick noise to your sound.I love these picks. They have a textured grip so I don't drop them, and the 2.5mm thickness means they are absolutely inflexible something I really like in my picks. They are big, too another plus for me and my clumsy fingers. They also don't color the sound of my strings; in other words, when I grip them firmly and play, they make no pick noise as I pluck my strings. So what I'm hearing is just the sound of the strings and guitar with no extra noise added by the pick (some players like that pick sound, but I do not) . So, if you really like solid feeling, thick, inflexible, slip free picks the Primetone 2.5mm are perfect. And the 12-pack is a really good deal compared to buying them in the 3-pick pack.5Get 1 Blue Chip or 15 of these for $35Im a lifelong professional guitarist and recently discover the Blue Chip pick, which pretty much licked muy playing up a good notch. The problem, of course, is the $35 price tag for one pick. And if you think you won't lose one then you're delusional. I've lost and found my Blue Chip dozens of times, which is at best stressful and inconvenient when you rely on something for your profession. Anyway, to make a long story short, I searched for a similar pick and found these. They feel and play so close to the Blue Chip that I can't tell the difference. I've only used these for about a month so I don't know the life expectancy but a month on a pick is already excellent with the amount I play (3 plus hours per day) so I'm pretty much sold already. The Blue Chip is an amazing pick and these seem to compete well so I give them 5 stars.5Good electric pickI stumbled onto Primetone picks as a back up alternative for my large triangle Blue Chips. I decided to try these for electric. They have just the right amount of flex in them for big sweeping strokes but the tip is really crisp, good for pulling harmonics. They're quite pricey compared to the bulk D'Addario's I was using, but the Primetone material is WAY more durable. If I can keep from losing them, they should last a long time.4great picks, play well and they really lastI went on a great search through many different picks over the last few years. They're a cheap way to shift your tone and often do more than effects boxes that cost 10x as much. I've tried various Jazz III picks, got into the Ultex and carbon fiber versions, though the Primetone version edges it due to the polished tip, but I decided to give the teardrop shape a spin, too.Anyway, these are really fantastic... the textured grip is great, the polished tips have a totally smooth release, and they flex really nicely. I love the flex from the .73mm, which has a really nice brightness and rich upper mid tone they bring out on my guitars, especially my acoustic, and they play nicely, too. Blues and jazz both work. I'm going to pick up some AAL Jazz III's in .73mm for jazz playing.5Dunlop Primetone picks are the very best I've ever usedDunlop Primetone picks are the very best I've ever used. I have many different sizes and shapes. They textured grip keeps it from slipping. If you haven't tried one, you owe it to yourself to give them a try. .88's are a bit heavier than the .73's that are my wife's favorite. I use the .73's as well, but sometimes you need just a little more oomph.5Finally found my picks!Love these things. I use both the 2.0 and 3.0 for electric and acoustic, same great feel, different sound. The 2.0 has more snap and upper mid brightness, 3.0 is thick and full with a nice top end chime. Have tried the 20-30 dollar picks too, and in my opinion these are every bit as good. Super durable. Grip texture is effective without being distracting, shape is immediately familiar, no adjustment period was needed for me. Well done, Dunlop!5The best of the grip picksAfter discovering "grip" picks, I purchased over a dozen different varieties, looking for that "perfect" pick, something close in texture and stiffness to a regular Fender medium, the gold standard. This pick fits perfectly. The 73 mm is perhaps a little stiffer than a Fender, but only marginally. It is a nice, hard material that gives a crisp tone, and the edges are polished unlike many nylon picks. It has an etched center circle on both sides for grip and if you buy them by the dozen, they are just over a dollar a pick. A bit pricey perhaps, but well worth it.I had four top picks out of my dozen, and this one and the Snarling Dogs 1.0 mm were my top two. This was my top one.5They sound great but, don't last very longI use the .88 Primetone picks playing my Martin acoustic with medium strings. I really love that these picks have a brighter sound which is closer to an Ultex pick rather than the Flex or Tortex. The tips of these picks do not last very long and get "flat" quickly. I am getting about 2 weeks out of them playing my guitar everyday for a couple of hours. Kind of a bummer because even though they are expensive, they sound great and are excellent when they're new.I've recently ordered some of the Dunlop Flow .88, Tortex .88, Tortex III .88, and the Ultex Sharp .90 to see how they compare.3
