    The only straplock system I useI've used Schaller-style straplocks and the cheap little plastic retainers, but nothing comes close to these. They're both straplocks and have a button for standard straps sans-locks, and they hold on well. I've used one pair for over 15 years now and it still hasn't broken. The only downside is if you have something like an SG or a Steinberger, which have strap buttons on the backside of the instrument, the amount of distance these buttons add to the back can 1) make the instrument more unbalanced, as it puts the strap point back another centimeter, and 2) it can be uncomfortable, as that back-mounted button in the front rubs against your torso. Other than that, they're great.4High quality and easy to use I wanted to show a couple of pics of the Straplok installed as well as a video of how easy it is to take the strap on and off. This is very important to me because I purchased a high quality thick heavy glove leather strap that I want to use when I change from guitar to guitar. This push button locking and unlocking system is exactly what I needed. Other locks use a different method of attaching and they do lock on well once you are secure but they are tricky and cumbersome to engage and disengage.Another reason I went with the Dunlop Straplok was because of that thick and quality strap. I couldn t get the lock to catch enough of the threads when attaching to the strap to install. With the Straplok I was able to secure the half locking washer type piece snugly. (I used a pair of regular pliers opened to the wider setting and just barely gave a gentle squeeze and the ring snapped right into place.)Finally through no fault of the product itself I needed another screw to install the part on my guitar. I contacted Dunlop direct through their website (the AmaZon company KMC music that sold the units was very helpful with that) and they sent me more screws. So great to deal with a company that not only makes great durable products but also has great customer service.You need a strap lock? Get this one. And you can match the color of your guitar s hardware!!5Works well, kinda looks goofyMy main thought on these is that it is a great product if you have many guitars, but one or two straps that you usually use, or you travel with your guitar regularly and it doesn't fit in the case with the strap.The screw that holds these in is quite a bit larger than the one it replaced. The button that mounts to the strap holds on very very tightly, and I have no doubt that it will never come off the strap unless I take it off. It clicks pretty securely into the mount on the guitar, with a little bit of wriggle. Press the button, it comes right out.My only complaint is that it looks pretty goofy with the strap mounted. See pics. It pushes the strap out like an inch. Overall, I am pleased with it. However, the way I only casually play, I would have been fine sticking with regular strap mounts.5The best value, work perfectlyHere's what strap locks are supposed to do: securely attach your strap to your guitar. These do that much better than Schallers and the Fender rip-offs of Schaller.I used the Schallers many years ago. They look great, but the problem is they screw onto the strap with a nut. I am very good with maintenance, check for loose parts, etc., but at one gig with my super heavy American deluxe 5 string jazz bass, the nut worked its way off the strap, and I dropped it. It was with a heavy leather strap, and I did tighten it down with pliers upon installation and I'm sure I kept it maintained. Absolutely ridiculous and inexcusable. Never again. Unless you want to inspect and retighten your strap locks at every single rehearsal and gig, forget about Schallers. They're a good company and they make great tuners, I don't fault the materials, it's simply that threaded things can work their way loose, a fatal design flaw for this type of device. Come on, its only purpose is to not allow something to come off of something else.The Dunlop strap locks fit on with a locking ring. It is impossible to remove these from the strap by accident. If you're having trouble getting the lockrings on, I have a YouTube video posted to my channel, NickWeissMusic, just search for Dunlop strap lock installation. It's kind of tough at first but with experience, it's very easy. The package instructions are correct but not very helpful.I have these on more than 10 instruments, and have never had even close to a failure in well over a decade. The package recommends periodically lubricating the mechanism inside the lock, but I have never done so, in my experience lubricants usually gunk things up more than they help for things like this. I've never had so much as a grind or squeak from the button or ball bearings in these strap locks, if I did, I'd probably just replace it. I do give the locks a little tug when I put them on to make sure they're engaged, other than that, you can forget about them, which is the way it should be.The only possible downside is that these strap locks keep the strap a little further from the instrument then using no strap locks or the Schallers do, to which I say, who cares. Well, I guess a lot of people care about that, since I see it in a lot of reviews. If using no strap lock or a poorly designed one is worth it to you, just so you can have your strap a quarter inch closer to your guitar, so be it. I have seen Ernie Ball strap locks that seem to be a little lower profile, I think they use lock rings too. Maybe try those, but I'm sticking with the flawless track record of the Dunlops.5A crucial (and cheap) investment.I bought a set of these for SG since my strap was slipping more than I would have liked. I was so pleased I got a set for all of my electric guitars. I wish there was a way to do it easily for acoustics but whatever. I would definitely get the dual option if I was to redo it but these are still great. I have my guitars hanging on the wall with a strap attached to each so I don t really swap them out out for cleaning but these are super easy to switch out so if you have multiple guitars but only one strap (or don t like looking at a strap) this is perfect for easy and secure switches.5Best I ve usedMy go-to immediate addition to every guitar I buy, and has never let me down thru years of performances. A little dab of WD40 every now and then keeps them working smoothly, and since every guitar I own and every strap I own are so equipped, any strap/guitar combination is ready to go onstage at a moments notice and I can be sure I m not going to drop an expensive guitar on stage no matter what I do. These can be used on any strapped instrument including Keytar, drums, etc. if you re using an instrument with existing machine screws you may have to file down the top of the screw to fit into the opening... honestly I chuck the screw in a drill and use sandpaper to make that process relatively painless :-)5Works Great on my KeytarDecent keytars are just as expensive as high-end guitars so it's certainly a must to make sure your precious instrument, whatever it may be, doesn't go flying off when things get active on-stage.I play a Korg RK-100S keytar and it has a wooden body much like a regular guitar or bass so essentially the installation was as easy as could be and the overall security offers extreme peace of mind... Once I had the strap pegs fastened and the locks tightened into place the final solid 'snap' of securing the strap locks together made me feel better instantaneously.No matter what happens I know my beautiful instrument isn't going anywhere until the time comes to take it off and put it back in its case. And that, my friends, is a wonderful feeling. So go ahead and order yourself these fine strap locks - with 800lbs of tested weight limit, you know your instrument will be safe. 'Cause remember, as a musician your instrument is an extension of yourself, so take the extra few dollars and ready-up for whatever comes your way. Nothing is more heartbreaking than seeing your prized instrument fall to the ground...5Not the Dual Design, But Just As Reliable.I've reviewed Dunlop's Dual Design locks on here already; love 'em, swear by 'em, using them on all my basses and guitars since 1992. These are pretty much just as good, just with a different looking strap button. I mainly needed another set of locks for a new strap, and these were a hair cheaper, and the Prime shipping got them here in 1 day.I'm one of those guys who prefer Dunlops over Schallers. Schallers fall apart easier on stage (seen it happen too many times). Dunlops are more secure... may stick out a smidge more, but worth it. Plus as a Metallica fan growing up, I noticed James, Kirk, and Jason used them a lot which was a slam-dunk for me.As far as the Dunlop straplocks, the coolest are the flushmount that require more drilling, Dual Design are the most common and have a really nice strapbutton, these (Traditional) are a little weird but also have a very usable strapbutton, and Original have the least usable strapbutton, and tend to wiggle too much if the strew in the guitar gets loose.5Simple, affordable, extremely reliableAdmittedly, I have not tried many brands or styles of Strap locks. I got my first set over ten years ago and have had absolutely no reason to go searching for anything better. This design is extremely easy to use, reliable, and inconspicuous. I've got several sets of them now and its sooo convenient to be able to switch strap and guitar combos so quickly and still have 110% confidence that they will stay put. In the realm of things, my guitars are not overly valuable, but I would not hesitate for a single second to use these strap locks on a 10,000$ guitar. Yes, they're that good. Give them a try, you will be happy you did. No more unnecessary dings dents scratches etc from slipping straps.See pictures, the shinier studs are the dunlops, the nickel stud is a factory Japanese Soloist, just as a comparison showing the difference and minimally intrusive strap locks. Play on!5Can't go wrongI've used Dunlop Straploks for almost 20 years. I have them on almost all of my guitars. I've never had one fail; even the oldest ones I have still look like new and work perfectly.Tip: The screws are really long -- much longer than the ones on a regular strap button I highly recommend piloting the hole instead of just driving it in by brute force. Along those lines -- if you're putting one of these on the neck heel of an acoustic, you need to carefully measure the depth of the hole; a couple of times, I've had to cut the screw so that the tip didn't poke through the other side of the heel.5
