NYBobI am a professional guitarist with over 50 years of experience. I have used most every brand of guitars and strings. For the past 15 + years I have been playing exclusively finger style with nylon strings. These string are the most unsatisfactory I have ever played. There is almost NO projection nor tone. They sound dead, as if they were a 'used set'; they require a long break-in period, and go out of tune easily & frequently, and the wound 6th,5th,& 4th strings come in a bronze coating (which I believe is why they do not project well). I will not buy these again, and do not recommend them.2Worst. Strings. Ever.I ve played guitar for a couple decades now and I ve never been so disappointed with a set of strings. To the point that I m confused how these could work for anyone. No matter how many times you retune, stretch, retune you CANNOT get three to hold tune. They resonate poorly and are way to quiet even for finger style playing. I ve been on amazon since 2003 and this is my first one star review, so that should say something.1Adding to the pile or broken high E strings.I also suffered a broken high E string. I woke up one morning to find my guitar hangin in its stand, with a busted string. I wasn't playing it when it busted, and I tune to standard vibes.Also, the g seemed to just stretch, and stretch, and stretch. Then every time I'd pick it up, it would stretch some more. That can't be good for any sort of consistent sound.Sounded good while it lasted, but I can't trust it. I've had nylon strings last me years, NEVER weeks, and I play a LOT.1Not the best strings I've ever owned (EDIT)Not the best strings I've ever owned, but they sound pretty good, and after a 2 year hiatus from playing, I just wanted to give my best friend some new clothes and do it fast & easy.UPDATE: I STILL wasn't playing much and just removed these strings yesterday, because they wouldn't stay in tune for even one song from the very beginning. And yes, I allowed time for them to stretch a little. So I have to agree with another customer who reviewed these strings regarding the out of tune thing. I'm trying another brand that got better reviews, and if that doesn't work, I'll spend a little more in hopes that will bring my friend back to better days. I know every guitar isn't the same and you may just like these, but I found them annoyingly unstable.2Sweet and warm sound. Can be strung on steel acoustic guitarI have been using this nylon strings for my regular Dreadnought acoustic guitar (for steel strings). I love the sweet and warm sound of this nylon string set so much. Another good thing is my fingers don't get hurt even after long play. Good for finger style playing. What ever music sounds great with Piano sound great with this nylon strings such as Imagine (John Lennon), Gymnop die No.1 (Erik Satie), etc. There are other ball end nylon strings from different makers, but I like this Ernie Ball's Folk Nylon the best. For those who have never used nylon strings, it takes time to get the tuning stable, typically one week or so. So make sure to tune your guitar before and while playing for the first few days.5Earthwood is Earthy and GoodI usually stick with Martin strings for my classical guitar but I've had good experiences with Ball's Earthwood steel strings so I thought I'd try their nylon counterparts and I must say I'm just as pleased. These strings have a very 'round' sound and are balanced quite smoothly from warm low to bright high. Classical guitar purists might find the highs not crisp enough for their liking, but one man's "crisp" is another man's "brittle".5High E string broke in two days, not a good experienceReason for 2 stars is simple. My guitar does not have a string-breaking problem, but the high E string broke after a couple of days of fairly gentle use, down at the bridge end. Hard to tell whether it was on the bridge itself because the nylon contracts unlike a steel string. No complaints about the tone, but I expected something more durable, or include an extra E (and maybe B) string if they are that delicate.2The Nylon Strings Are AwfulI was super excited to string up the guitar with these new strings, so as soon as they arrived I began the process. When I finally got them all on and began tightening them I noticed two huge issues:1) Just playing the guitar puts very noticeable bends and dents in the nylon strings where the string pushes against the fret.2) To get the right sound and distance from the neck they have to be awfully tight and the small E snapped after two minutes of playing right where the ball end is.So for eight dollars I got a very frustrating setup and two minutes of play.The metal wrapped strings sound fine, but I m now again without a guitar and pretty mad at the waste of money. It just appears the nylon strings are quite poor quality compared to others I ve used.2Great sound. String snapped very soon though.Strings sound great, warm yet crisp sound. The nylon E string snapped a month after I bough the strings thoug. It was not because they were too tight. I even tune a half step down. I am now using steel phosphor strings.4Initial stretchiness.....I really like these so far. I put them on a 40+ year old 3/4 size Yamaha I haven't played in years. I agree the G string is a bit dull, hence the 4 vs 5 stars. They have been on for less than 24 hours, so I will post an update if it changes. For those going from a metal string acoustic and trying these for the first time, be advised they stretch........a lot. Classical guitar tuning pegs are a little thicker than steel string acoustic pegs and you will find yourself cranking a lot on the peg to get them to pitch. I stretched them a bit after first tune and repeated the tune, stretch a few times. I finally got it close then let it sit over night. They had pretty much lost two full steps when checked the next day, re-tuned, re-stretched, then tuned again. They finally seem close to holding pitch. Kind of a pain, but I LOVE the tone. It will be worth it in the long run. In 40 years of guitar playing, I have tried many, many different brands of strings. I always go back to Ernie Ball for 6 string acoustic and electric. These seem to carry on my faith in them.10/25/2014- I am adding an addendum to this after having them on my guitar a while. I still like them, the g string is still a little dull. There isn't a whole lot of volume on my guitar from these. However, the reason behind this is not the strings, and anyone putting these on a non-classical acoustic will more than likely have the same experience. Classical guitars, in general, are a lot lighter than steel string acoustics. Primarily because they don't have all of the x-bracing internally. The sound board (the top or face of the guitar) is also usually a little thinner and lighter. Consequently you will not get the brightness you may expect from a true classical.4
