Customer Reviews

I break out the guitar more because of these...I love these strings! I actually play more because they are easier on my fingers. I don't claim to be good enough to comment on tone quality or whatever, my view is if you're that snobby about your music get better callouses and buy fancy strings. But for the rest of us mortals, these are a good way to jam out to a tune now and then without killing the fingers.5Nice & Easy On The Finger TipsGot sore finger tips? Recovering from a long absence of playing...? OR like me...you were playing but had an injury that kept you away from your guitar for a while and your finger tips went soft again?? These strings are definitely worth getting. I injured my shoulder and just couldn't pick up & hold my guitar (Seagull Rustic Acoustic) for weeks & weeks... by the time I could play for even just 10 - 15 minutes before my shoulder would start screaming at me... my poor finger tips were screaming as well from the heavier Martin SP's I had on. So to get me back in the grove and toughen up the tips a little... I got these and put them on. Finger pain not an issue now.The strings are nice... I like them...they sound good but don't expect them to sound like a nice set of Martin's or any other good brand of heavier gauge strings. But especially if you are a beginner and frustrated with sore fingers and this is keeping you from practice... GET THESE STRINGS...and stick with it for a while. You may just surprise yourself.4Very happy I found these stringsExactly what I needed. Very mellow sound on Gibson J-15. Nice highs, good lows considering these are 10s. Getting older and just don't have the hand strength anymore and the softer feel and tension is perfect. I have been an electric player and recently added acoustic. Different animals. I went through a dozen types of strings and these are far and away the best for what I wanted. Some of the 10s were tinny some flat sounding on the bass. Five minutes with these strings and I immediately re ordered. Also, if you are looking for an overall deeper mellow type tone these will do it. I'm more of a Jazz/Blues type player and these strings really fit. They almost give the instrument an electric arch top sound. Great campfire strumming sound as well. I just can't find anything I don't like about these strings. If you are doing the dance trying to find the right string, throw a set of these in your order and try them out. I like the sound of these strings so well, I would use them even if I didn't need the easier to play strings.5Definitely softer for beginners, but sound is "meh" and strings are fragileSo, I am a beginner and my guitar is not the nicest, and I restrung it myself so maybe I'm just not good at it, BUT..here are my observations. (This is for the 0.10 to 0.50 set)1) They are definitely softer to play on than my former strings, so that's good.2) The B string snapped while I was winding it around the peg! Was very thin and weak so be careful while putting these on.3) The sound is not clean. Hard to keep them in tune. Maybe once they stretch and settle it will improve.3My favorite strings!I have tried a dozen strings types and brands and all of them have great characteristics! All of them! I play a dreadnaught so I need 80/20 strings for the brightness that goes well with a big guitar but some of the loud, bright strings start to hurt my fingers after a couple hours of playing. If I get extra light strings, I lose volume. The Ernie Ball Silk and Steel strings in Medium Light are fantastic! Easy on my fingers and have a nice right tone that is perfect for large guitars. All strings are a mix of benefits and compromises and these, for me, are in the sweet spot of tone, playability, quality and price.Things to know:The 80/20 strings seem to dull a little faster than a phosphor bronze but they are bright and crisp. Some say that the = silk and steel may not be as strong as pure steel strings but I have never broken a single string but I am 80/20 Finger style/flat picking and finger style is easier on the strings.I would HIGHLY recommend these to beginner players that are building up callouses or any playing that wants playability over volume.4Great guitar strings, especially for newer playersI have two guitars, one with another brand and then a guitar with the EB lightweight strings. In a nutshell, I may change the other guitar to EB as well!I have these strings on a Jasmine S34 cutaway with bone bridge/nut and wood bridge pins. Between the strings and changing the plastic parts for wood & bone, the guitar really came alive (it's a $120 guitar). I am learning how to play, and the EB strings help me to play longer (they are lighter guage) and sound honestly just as good. I use this guitar to learn Hawaiian Slack Key/alternative tunings. I play almost every day, and I have had no issuees with the strings at all. After the initial break-in time, they stay pretty close to in tune, and are really help to make this little guitar sound way nicer than it's pricetag. They are bit smaller guage than my others, so it makes playing a bit easier/don't have to use as much finger pressure. Higher notes stay in tune and don't really create that much buzz with my hamfisted playing. I have had no problems with any string breakage, etc. After playing on these strings for a while, I am starting to find my favorite strings...and these could be it.5These strings changed my outlook on playing my acoustic guitarThese strings changed my outlook on playing my acoustic guitar. I have been searching for a while to try to find acoustic strings at a good price that felt more like electric strings. Sure, electric strings would work on an acoustic. But just didn't have that same richness to them. Tried several different gauges with the same outcome each time. Then I heard of the Earthwood Silk and Steel strings. Put them on and just tuning it I could tell a difference. Have that warm rich acoustic tone. But don't make your fingers feel like you put them through a grinder after playing for a half hour or so.Would highly recommend to everyone.5Beginners you got to try these stringsI had never heard of these strings until I read an article about beginner guitar playing and how hard it was on the fingers. I was given this old Johnson 3/4 size guitar to learn on. Now I play ukulele so my fingers aren't new to strings but playing the guitar was really painful. This has opened up a whole new world and I'm really happy with them. I played this morning for 30 minutes and it was great. My husband put them on, he's been playing forever and had never heard of them but said let's try and I'm so glad I did. Even he said the strings are soft. the sound is wonderful the sustained is incredible and it just feels good on my fingers. I went to tune it this morning about 18 hours after they were put on and it was almost in tune from last night. So I recommend this to beginners definitely.5I really like these strings, but buy extras! These are really light and VERY comfortable on the fingers. Soundwise, I think they are excellent - they stay in tune well, have good balance and aren't twangy. Smooth, sweet acoustic sound. They don't have quite the volume of solid phosphor/bronze strings, but because they're so comfortable, you can attack hard and get fine volume. The only downside is the .020w G-string breaks a bit too easy - bends are so easy that it is easy to snap this string and getting single string replacements is difficult (GHS makes steel&silk singles, but I haven't tried 'em yet).Update: The GHS .020w single-string replacements (available elsewhere - Google it) sound fine as replacements.4Attention Beginners! This review is for you!I am finally able to comfortably play bar chords on my acoustic guitar thanks to these strings! If you are a beginner, a young person, an old person, a woman or anyone other than a brawny tough skinned lumberjack, you will appreciate the feel of these strings and find playing easier, more rewarding with better sound. If you've been struggling to advance in your playing and haven't tried softer strings, get these before you quit for good! Man I wish my guitar teacher had recommended a string change (the real problem is the high action) before I quit taking lessons 20 years ago. I know I'm being redundant, but seriously, it has made a world of difference.5
