Customer Reviews

More dry than Remo EmperorThese are Ok heads if one can acquire them at a much lessor price than the Remo heads, however there is a noticeable difference between these heads and the Emperor heads, They are more dry than the Remo (not as much sustain) and don't have the response at very low playing volume levels when compared to a coated emperor head. Let me also state I am not a hard line Remo fan either. I have used heads from Attack, DFD, Remo, Aquarian and Evans. I find Remo to be the best choice in coated heads. My judgement is still out on clear batter heads, but the DFD heads are winning me over. So far the DFD mesh heads are my decided favorite for practice kits.Drum heads are very expensive items, If you have found a head you like, stick with it, experimenting with drum heads can cost several hundreds of dollars. The drum head manufacturers need to offer test heads for specific size drums to allow the end user to decide whats best. What I can tell you after 40 years of being in the business is that the same head combinations applied to different manufacturers drums can produce completely different sounds. The process of selecting heads, just because this person or that uses this head type on their drums is far from repeatable. One will need to select head for their specific manufacturer of drums ..... For instance, the Remo pinstripe heads fit a couple of my kits (Ludwig and Yamaha) but would not fit my 2016 Stage Custom Birch drums, (rocked back and forth on the shells).... I eventually found the Evans G2 to fit well on the Stage Custom Birch drums, producing a sound I could live with, except dryer than the Remo coated heads.3The perfect head for toms.I ve tried other heads on my toms, but I keep coming back to the coated G2 s. They are extremely durable. If you break one of these, something is horribly wrong with your technique. The coating lasts a long time and adds a bit of warmth to the attack vs clear heads. They have a great blend of attack, tone, and sustain, without too much of any one element, making them versatile for many styles of music and types of drums. The only scenario where they might not work as well is on smaller jazz kits with high tunings, where something like the single-ply G1 would be more desirable to achieve an open, singing tone. But for most applications, the G2 batter/G1 reso combination is a classic for a reason. Plus, the Level 360 collar makes them ridiculously easy to tune and stay that way.5By replacing them it made the sound a lot better. I was trying to decide which brand was ...I bought these as a replacement for my old drum heads. By replacing them it made the sound a lot better. I was trying to decide which brand was better for heads, evans or remo. My old ones were remo so I wanted to try a different brand. They are coated and feel great to play on. I mean you can really beat on these heads and no bumps are shown from hitting them too hard. They will definitely last.5360 is great, just make sure it's the 360......The new Evans G2 clear 360 outshine all in my opinion, even the old G2 clear. No flat punches or cheap overtones, just warm, full tonality. The harder you play, the more they sing. If you mix them for a live gig you will find other drummers asking you how you got them tuned and sounding so perfect. In fact, I still find myself playing fills and ignoring cymbals just because it's so fun to play the drums lol. Mine is a 7 piece PDP Concept Maple. With the F.A.S.T. sizing and the 360 heads it's near dummy proof for professional sound. I put Genera resonant heads on the flip. Tune the reso first!!!One word of advice for Amazon shoppers. Send a message to the seller and DOUBLE VERIFY that you're getting a 360 model and not the old G2. I ordered 12 heads for the set below and one seller sent me an older model 14 inch batter even though the website said it was clearly a 360. Now the stupid 14 inch tom batter sounds like crap and gets my OCD acting up. Honest mistake on the sellers part but still irritating. Sometimes sellers just google and hit copy/paste for descriptions. Do your homework.5A very versatile head.I have been playing these heads on my snare drums for about 5 years now and love them. Out of my 11 snare drums, all but 3 have a coated g2's on them. I started out playing Remo heads in the beginning, and while they do sound good the coating starts coming off immediately. As in after 20 min of playing you already have an area with coating coming off. So I tried Evans and never looked back. I chose the g2 because the two plies are very durable and last a good amount of time even with decently heavy hitting. The coating lasts weeks, and the plies barely ever get stick craters in them. They seat nicely, especially since Evans came out with their Level 360 collar system, which gives you an even seat all the way around the bearing edge. I have coated g2's on brass, African mahogany, steel, maple, and aluminum drums, and they all sound great. They also work just as well on toms, which I have on my gig kit toms. Overall the coated g2 is a great sounding, durable, and affordable head for toms and snare drums.5They're great!I've been swapping back and forth between Evans and Remo for a while, but after really liking the emad kick head I decided to lean more toward Evans just for consistency in my setup.I consulted with an online forum to find which would be the closest 'compatible' drumhead to what I really liked from Remo on the Evans line, and I was led to the G2 series. (from Remo's Emperor series-- both being 2 plies of 7mm free floating film)Honestly, I think I'm going to stick with Evans from now on though!I ordered my pack shortly after the announcement of the 'level 360' sizing, and I wanted to give them a try. My fears of getting some old stock were unfounded and the set that I got was new enough to be L360 sized.I got them on, and the tuning seemed to be pretty easy. I use a drum dial to ballpark me and start my tuning process, but it went smoothly. Not sure if it was the placebo effect, but I seemed to be able to get a little more low range on my floor tom as well-- deeper but just as resonant as an 808 kick. The coating seems to hold up better on the Evans heads as well-- Remo tends to 'flatten out' within a few hours of play, where the Evans not only lasts longer, but has a more finished feel to them.5Makes any kit sound solidThe Evan's heads are a great tool in your bag of tricks. They are always flawless. That goes without saying. When I am given a water damaged 1970s japanese no name (Stencil) kit made of old, battered, and thin mahogany, I know I can throw a set of Evan's on this and it will sound amazing. This is happening more and more, due the the "Budget Rock" genre emerging. Seems the coolest bands have the oldest and cheapest gear.Evans can make this work by taking a drum set one might throw away and making it a go to set.Well done Evans. We sure appreciate your products.5Measure your drumsDont be like me, and assume the sizes because youre like 95% sure you have a 14" floor tom, but you didnt remember that its definitely bigger than your snare which is 100% 14" and then feel dumb when you realize its a 16" floor tom, and now youre running to guitar center for a 16 cause theres no point in returning these, you've been looking to get a 14" floor tom anyway. you can just store the 14 in the closet until then...also evans G series is super awesome, been hearing alot of us Remo guys are converting and not going back... thats exactly what is happened with me5The Go-To Multipurpose Drumhead.I like these for studio and live applications. I've tried other things in studio, but G2 Coated are somewhere right in the middle of tone and ring. 2-ply heads are garbage for studio because they have no sustained tone, they sound like cardboard. Single ply heads can get get overtone-y in a studio, and without the benefit of a good engineer that knows how to use some quality gates, they can sound like garbage. I'll agree that a single ply head will sound the best if tuned correctly, recorded properly, mixed perfectly, and cared for daily but the G2 Coated head is, in my opinion, the most practical drumhead out there. They are durable, sound good, tune well, last forever if cared for, and receive 5 stars from me for being the go-to multipurpose drumhead.5WOW!The best! I was using the EC2 clears on my DW Collectors Series for years. I decided to give these a try after reading on a forum and watching a youtube video that compared all Evans' heads. The EC2s were 2nd to these and sound great live on my pdp M5 kit. I won't go back to the ec2 on the collectors. My only advice is to put a single moongel at the very top of the 16" tom. It will take out the nastyness. I have the other 2 with no batter side dampening and they are incredible!!!5
