This 5 way switch is great if you're looking to assemble your own guitar like ...This 5 way switch is great if you're looking to assemble your own guitar like I did. If you have cheap Squier strat or similar, I don't think it's necessary for you to go out of your way to swap out the switch, unless you are already planning on swapping out pickups and potentiometers as well. The difference between this switch and a cheaper switch is that the Fender has a more "positive" clicking feel when you switch positions. For my strat pickguard, I had to file the opening to be a little wider, but that wasn't too much of a problem and it only took an extra 5-10 minutes. Installing this will require some soldering skills.5Well MadeThis is a well made selector that's a bit more robust than the typical cheapies. Definitely worth an extra $5 if your guitar means anything to you. The hole spacing is standard. but note that the throw of the selector goes a bit farther than the standard inline selectors, so I had to lengthen the opening of our DIY guitar..YMMV with a standard factory made slot.4Great switchPerfect for my Squier rework - ditched the 8 inline plastic jobbie and replaced it with a solid switch. You can WORK with these. Did bend the connectors up a bit to give a little more clearance in the Squier strat body.5Top quality authentic Fender product. This is a genuine Fender Stratocaster five way switch. It is a top quality product that works perfectly and should last a lifetime if installed properly. This switch is expensive in comparison to similar products, but this is a case of "you get what you pay for." A word of caution to hobbyists who have never installed one before: Always use a low power soldering iron, "tin" your wires before installation and work very quickly when you are soldering the wires to the switch terminals. It is easy to damage the delicate terminals with too much heat, thus ruining the switch. (This is the voice of experience speaking to you.)5Exact replacement for OriginalMy original switch was broken and this one worked just as the other when new. I had no issues replacing it........just replace wiring one pickup at a time or mark each one on a piece of paper/take a picture with camera, whatever is needed to have correct rewiring. Also can "customize" your switch functions at this point if needed/wanted from the many sites that give these tips in detail.....ie; YouTube, Pinterest and others.5almost like it has bearingsAside from working perfectly, this switch has a really neat feel to it as you go up and down the positions, almost like it has bearings, surprisingly pleasing compared to the action of other 5-ways I have on my guitars. Would get another one just for that reason.5Perfect replacementWhile swapping out some other parts I got solder into places on my old switch where there should not be solder & was unable to make it right.I ordered this as a replacement, and it was perfect. Just take care to position it so you don't drop solder where you don't want it while making your connections.5Worked Like a Champ !!!Nicely built despite the sticker saying it was made in Mexico......after all it is going into my 1994 MIM Strat. fit like a glove. I didn't use the bolts that came with it. Notice they were not made to fit count sunk the way my pick guard is. So I used my old ones. The Plastic knob if you will does not fit tight as my old one. but its okay. I'm sure superglue will hold it in just fine. Soldering was a breeze and didn't have any problems their. All in all I still gave it 5 stars. so glad I can change settings and not have the sound cut in and out...or works when it wants to.5Good productIf you aren't good with soldering or working with electronics you may want to avoid trying this yourself. Make sure you take plenty of pictures of how the wires are routed and where they are connected, because none of the diagrams found online were even close to how mine was set up. Have extra wire handy in case you accidentally melt one with the soldering iron.5Huge Improvement Over Box Type Asian Squier Switch.A very good quality Fender OEM 5 way switch. A huge improvement over the failed, cheap box style Squier Asian switch I pulled out. A positive "click" at every position.5
