    Just Do it !Smooth as Silk. My main issue with these are simple. When i play them,Then go to roundwounds,I just want to go back to flats. lolThats how smooth they are. Bang for the buck these are very good and sound great on my Squire Jazz. If you like a smooth deep tone.These are it. These Flats also cut finger slide noises rite out. I just typed myself into buying flats for all my basses.Thats how happy i am with these.Ive used everything from GHS Boomer,Dean Markly Blue Steels rite to RotoSounds.There all great roundwound strings. Fender FlatWounds your fingers will appreciate.Mine do.5Very smooth and durableThese strings are amazing! I can't think of any cons. I like them so much I bought two sets, one for my Ibanez and one for my fretless Warwick. I pluck the strings with my fingers therefore I need something silky smooth when playing for hours upon hours.I just played a gig the past weekend. During the day I practiced three hours, took some breaks, then played the show for another three hours. My fingers never hurt or blistered. Flat coil is the way to go, they can take a beating while leaving your fingers feeling nice and lightly calloused following a few hours of playing.In addition the strings are easy to clean. I used 70% isopropyl alcohol and a rag, just wipe off and they'll be new again in no time.I will never go back to round coil strings. These are fantastic and don't hurt my fingers! Highly recommended.5Great stringsI have a 30 year old epiphone accubass that I love to play. Flat wound has always been my favorite because I can slide up and down the strings and get that "WOW" sound without the string noise. I always felt that the bright sound loss from flats could be compensated with the amp. These Fender strings are the brightest flats I have used and the sustain is much longer. For the "round wound" fans that want the "flats" ease to play TRY THESE.5Great introductory Flatwound stringI didn't know what to expect, and strings are very subjective. If you play raking style (striking through the string into the one below it), these give an excellent percussive "thump" that's become quite addicting. They are very articulate, with no lose of tone at any extreme of pitch. I found them very "eq-able" as well - If you like turning knobs on your amp, these have good character in the mid range that boast nicely, and the high tones are very pleasing. If you like the growl of roundwounds, you really need to dig into these guys for the same effect, and I never did get the same bite - but if that's what you like these might not be for you. I haven't compared to other flats - some are considered "brighter", or "thumpier" - I felt like these had a good mix of all the qualities associated with flats, so I consider them "middle of the road" flat wounds. I would happily play these again, but I'm trying some other flats to see what's out there.5The missing link...I bought my '77 jazz bass just over a year ago and after several tweaks and upgrades I really liked it's tone. However, I still didn't love it. The throaty snarl that my hero's J Basses had still eluded me. Someone suggested I try Fender Tapes a while ago but I've used Labella tapewounds on my fretless for years and while they have a nice upright type "plunk", there is little resembling growl. The main reason I tried these strings is because I figured for $20 I didn't have much to lose. I put these on during my lunch break the day they arrived and wow, huge mistake. I was so amazed by the sound I ended being late returning to work. This is the sound I've been hearing in my dreams. The tonal range of my bass is incredible with these on it. From low and mellow to full on snarl it is truly incredible how these have unleashed my four string beast. The feel is incredible too. I'll never buy anything else as long Fender makes these. I'd give 10 stars if I could. Nuff Said!!!5very easy on old fingers and have a nice deep bass ...I use these strings on all my bass guitars and have done so for years. (Fender Jazz and Precision basses, Ibanez, Epiphone Viola bass and my large acoustic bass.Unlike steel round wound strings, they are slick, don't make any finger sliding noise, very easy on old fingers and have a nice deep bass sound.They are not made for "slap" bass playing although I can sort of get that sound by turning up the treble a bit. But for traditional soul and especially blues, they can't be beat. Not muddled at all, nice distinct sound.5Decent StringsThese are great strings, that being said, if you're looking to try them and don't know what to expect here's my opinion: They are very flexible/low tension for flatwounds. Actually, they're very flexible compared to the Rotosound 66 rounds I normally use. Since they're stainless steel they're very bright when new. I put these on my Fender Steve Harris P-Bass, so I was looking for a brighter flat. Steve uses Rotosound 50-110 flats and has a signature set, which I have always used, but since they're flats made with a nickel outer wrap, and stainless under wrap, they lose the bright tone needed to get Steve's sound after a couple weeks. These Fender flatwounds are decent strings, and definitely great flats for the money! Just not exactly what I was looking for.4Where have you been all my life?I've never played flats before, and now I feel cheated because I'm in love with the sound and feel of these beauties. I strung them on my Squire Affinity PJ and it's a different beast now. The feel is so good. You can move all over the fretboard quickly, without zipper noises, and they feel slick as snot under the fingertips. I lost my callouses from lack of consistent playing and was still able to play 3 hours without any discomfort.Then there is the tone. It makes a bass sound like a bass. Rounds kind of sound like a normal guitar, just pitched lower, but flats have that percussive thump, and a different harmonic series that gives them a real players sound. They make your bass guitar, more of a bass guitar if that makes sense.Far from being dead sounding, I got a good slap sound without any effort at all, and I was also able to lower the action on my guitar a little more without buzz, which combined had me slapping and popping like a fool. You do lose some of the higher harmonics, which makes the strings sound a little more like an upright bass, and a little less like the bass strings in a piano with their harmonic overtones.Lastly, the dynamics are impressive. Whether using your fingers or a pick, the attack is a solid thump and a little faster than rounds. This makes percussive playing especially effective at locking it down with the drums. I play direct to my Fender amplifier without any compression and its sometimes challenging to keep consistent dynamics. I found my ability to control the volume with my fingers and playing techniques was easier for me on flats. It felt more responsive to changes in fingering resulting in slightly easier consistency, but also allowing for rapid changes in volume simply by plucking harder, using single index fingering, etc.5Want to get rid of the green thread at the ends of strings?The strings are great. That's been well established. I'm using them on an acoustic bass (even though they are intended for electric) and I love em.The green threading covering up the ends of the strings was driving me crazy though. The threading exists to protect your fingers I suppose. I thought it helped keep the string together at the ends, but after removing the thread I realized that's not the case.Cutting off the string with a razor or knife does not work.I tried the "burn it off" technique, and found that just makes a mess. I quickly stopped doing it. It leaves carbon on the strings that needs to be throughly cleaned off with a wire brush.I found the best a quickest way was to gently (and with extreme care) take it to a wire wheel on a bench grinder. It quickly removes the threading, and leaves a polished stainless string behind. Check out the picture of my dean acoustic bass headstock to see what's underneath that green thread. The stainless windings at that end actually looks like jewelry.5growliest, most versatile of the tapewounds that i have triedthese are a very curious string. i have used them on a squier ebanol fretless p bass and a fender acoustic electric bass. in comparison to the the other tapewounds i have used..(ghs and d'adarrio) the fender on the p bass provide the most wonderful, tone-at-zero thumpy growl of any of the others. its like black-licorice mint or something...arresting, i cant stop thniking about the tone on them. by comparison these also have a shiny-er, glossy-er (slighty tackier) nylon layer than the ghs or d'adarrio..that have a dry feel to them. on this guitar the ghs and d'adarrio much more wah where the fenders provide brawahn. on the acoustic electric fender the fender strings with a bit of weather stripping in the bridge i get the nearest to upright bass sound that i have been able to get. woody and with air (and with extra bass scooped-out mids and reduced trebles from the amp) i can get near bill black, elvis-like bass lines with that desired plucky-band thwap depth and also close to a guitarron sound for latin lines. the ghs still had wah but the d'adarrios were close the the 9020s on teh acousti-electric . really neat strings in some applications.4
