Customer Reviews

Worth ItI resisted buying these Triangle Trimmers because I couldn't see the point of paying for something I could do myself just by taking an extra step. What I found, however, was that my piecing became MUCH more accurate when I used these trimmers, which not only makes my quilts look better but I have more confidence and can work more quickly as I piece. I do both hand piecing and machine quilting and these trimmers have improved the look of my quilts both ways. Definitely worth a few dollars for such good results.560-degree equilateral triangle patterns are easy nowTraditionally, I have pieced tops with equilateral triangles using the markets on my big Omnigrid ruler. However, I've been working on a table-topper that has nothing but these triangles. It was a pain this quilter's rear end to have to use my big ruler on lots of relatively small triangles. So, I broke down and got this ruler. When it arrived, I was a bit confused since the tool is labeled as a "PYRAMID RULER" -- duh, I finally realized that yes, pyramids are actually 60-degree triangles! If you're cutting the shape from yardage, simply put the line that corresponds with how high you want your triangle on the bottom of your yardage & cut around the template with your rotary tool. If you want a half pyramid, place the ruler on a right angle of yardage, lining up both the "high high" line on the bottom & the center line on the edge, then cut around. This works best if you are using a rotating cutting mat. Some other commenters have noted that it's a bit slippery. Even though this is an Omnigrid ruler...it's not an Omni-GRIP one...so it is a bit slidy on some fabric. Overall, though, I'm very pleased with this ruler.5Easy guide for making flying geese and trianglesEasy guide for making flying geese and triangles. I only wish it wasn't so slippery. I added some TrueGrips adhesive to prevent the slipping while cutting.4Game changing triangle rulerI bought this ruler after purchasing a pattern that required it. I was a little annoyed at first that I had to buy a specific ruler for the pattern, but by the time I was done cutting out what felt like 8 million triangles, it had more than paid for itself. Flying geese, quarter squares and half square triangles have never been easier (or more accurate) for me to sew! This thing is a game changer for me! I'm not gonna back down from a. Pattern with triangles now that I have this handy ruler.5Sturdy, fun, and effective quilting tool! The Fons and Porter Pyramid Ruler has worked great for multiple quilt patterns I have followed. It is made of very sturdy acrylic. The top of the triangle is a flat edge instead of a tip, which at first concerned me, but it is intentional, not a broken template. The flat portion allows you to align your triangles when piecing and also maximizes the amount of triangles you can get from your fabric. The quarter inch lines on either side of the center dividing line on the template allow you to cut half triangles that include seam allowances. The acrylic holds up well to run-ins with rotary cutters. After working for hours, I was getting a little sloppy with my cuts and continually ran the blade into the base of the ruler instead of along side of it. The ruler had no marks or scratches resulting. This shape is very easy to work with as a beginner quilter and can be used to made hexagons and diamonds out of multiple triangles. My favorite way to use scraps has become sewing them into strips and using the pyramid template to cut striped triangles from the sewn strips. You can use little tiny scraps at the top of your sewn strips as they will constitute the tip of the triangle. Great way to use scraps of varying sizes. Having this template was a lot easier than using my long rectangular ruler to cut triangles all at the same degree angle. I highly recommend this as a fun, inexpensive, efficient tool to add to your quilting arsenal or to give as a gift to a quilter.5Nice ruler and easy to read I haven't used it yet, since I am just learning to quilt, but some quilting friends love Fons and Porter designs and tools. The lines are easy to read, and I think they will make cutting triangles very easy on my grid cutting mat. 5A Flying Geese WinnerFor quite some time I have struggled to make nice, straight flying geese blocks. I tried numerous methods - four from a square, stitch and flip, half square triangles, etc. but honestly either I felt like I was wasting fabric (stitch and flip) or the outcome was not desirable (i.e. four from a square). The result was that I stayed away from flying geese since I like to precision piece and bias stretched units are just not the perfect starting point to begin with. I have had a flying geese quilt kit sitting at home but did not touch it until I came across this ruler. For the longest time I did not want to buy it because I felt it just wasn't worth $11 for a ruler that I can only make flying geese with. Well, let's just say the ruler is worth its money. I just finished the construction of 126 4"x8" flying geese and this ruler saved my piecing precision. For one, cutting the pieces from strips is a huge time saver and it gives you both sides of the side triangles in one step. Then, the ruler is really easy to use: locate the geese size you want to make, look at the number to the left or right and cut your strips this width. It has shaded tips, which means you will cut your pieces without the triangle tip, which again makes the precision so much easier because you know exactly where to line up your side triangles with the tip of the main unit and they turn out perfectly every.single.time.As hesitant as I was to spend the money on this ruler, I am 100% behind it now. Now I only have to see if they make one for units larger than 4"x8"...5so i don't recommend, but i am not above thinking that it ...im giving this an just okay because it came with some instructions and even though i followed them to the letter i still lost all the points on my triangle quilt... so i don't recommend, but i am not above thinking that it was user error..... i guess buy at your own risk or unless you are pro at doing triangle quilts..2Great rulersEasy to use and fun. I actually bought this for one quilt, but like other rulers, will most likely find many others these rulers will be used for. Fons and Porter have quality tools. Never disappointed.5It is a very nice quality ruler and I'm sure I will really like ...I purchased this because you can never have enough quilting rulers, plus it was on sale in the Warehouse. It is a very nice quality ruler and I'm sure I will really like it once I actually figure out how to properly use it.4Good "tip" Using these trimmer guides removes the guesswork of aligning pieces for proper seaming. No more snipping at difficult bulky joints and running the risk of an "oops" cut to your finished block (voice of experience)! 5Very usefulLove this product! I made a triangle quit for my nephew and this made it so easy to cut out the fabric.5
