Customer Reviews

Back to the drawing boardI had to send this back. Its a great concept but not well thought out. When you put your mic system in it fits snug with the foam pads. If you plan on using the short antennas then you can leave them on the unit. I use the range extension antennas that are longer and they won't fit unless you remove and put on each time you use. The other issue I have with this design is that when you unzip you can't completely remove the ends of the case. So when you are using there really isn't a good way to have it set on table. With a little adjustment on design this would be a really cool simple case to have. Unfortunately it didn't work for me. I'm a huge fan of Gator products too. Hope this helps!2Save your money and buy a hard case of some kind.I was going to give this a one start review but it did have one upside. When it's all closed up it is compact and does not add any more bulk to the "package" than required.I have purchased both the EVA case and the lesser expensive Gator "Wireless Mic Bag". I liked the "Bag" a bit better because you could fold the covers under the receiver when you were using it. I used the EVA Case one time and had major problems with trying to figure out what to do with the front and rear covers/flaps while using the receiver. I'm a pretty bright guy and have been consumer of both wireless systems and related accessories since the 80's and if I missed something on that function, please somebody correct me.So no I can't provide a positive review for the simple reason that there is nothing to do with the covers when open. They are constantly in the way and impede any reasonable access to the front or back of the contained receiver when in use. Gator did a better job with the antenna access on the EVA Case than with the "Bag". But c'mon Gator - do something with the front and rear covers. I just seems like it would have been just a little more work to make them fold all the way under the case and fasten in place so they would be out the way.I have returned my EVA Case and retired my "Gator Bag" in favor of some very well priced hard plastic "Pelican" style cases from Monoprice. I'd rather have some kind of container system like the EVA but they are just not usable for me. The hard plastic cases where almost have the price of the EVA Case. So I will take the extra 3 minutes it will take to put the receiver away in the hard case than deal with the unruly front and rear covers of the EVA Case.2Offers quick access and incredible protectionThe little zippered pouches that come with most mics are nice, but offer little protection from anything but dust. The core of this case is simple stiff foam with five holes that go from top to (nearly) bottom. Four of the holes are round, the perfect size for a 57 or 58. There's a fifth cavity which you can use for small accessories, or another fifth microphone. If you're using a square mic like a e609 or e906 that'll fit in there nicely as well. The holes stop short of the bottom of the case, so the mics are actually surrounded by foam on all sides. The lid closes pretty snugly when zippered shut. Nothing is moving around in there. There's a zippered front pocket with a flat zippered pouch on front of that. Aside from the microphones in the holes, you won't be able to fit much more in the GM-4 other than maybe a few microphone clips, guitar picks, or handhend recorder.I like this case because it is small, simple, and very well-padded. I know that I can keep this with my gear and I've got an array of mics ready to go without fumbling with boxes or milk crates. The denim seems very durable, and the stitching is solid.5Bigger then you think! So I just got this in today, and was very surprised by something right away! This case is actually larger than what it looks in the photos. I got this for a travel podcast storage case, and honestly was kind of worried that all the equipment wouldn't fit. We have four Shure SM57`s, a Zoom H5, and four XLR cables 6FT each. I took a bit of a gamble getting this because I was afraid everything wouldn't fit. But, I was very happy to find that the storage inside is actually bigger then what it looks like in the product photos!, but everything fits just fine. The reason why I'm giving this a four star rating is for one reason. Which isn't a deal breaker but its one of those things that I would have thought the company would have thought about. The holes for the mics are really deep, and I would defiantly plan on stuffing the holes with something if you use a Shure SM58 or 57. The 58 you might be fine with, because that mic has a fat head, but the 57 drops right into the hole. Just so everyone is aware!4A perfect six packThis is a perfect case if you have six SM58 mics or ones of a similar shape. If you put the foam windscreens on your mics, they will still fit in this case, and the windscreens offer a little extra protection on the bottom where it is a tad thin, but the mics lay in there held up by the ball end, and only a tiny bit of the base touches the bottom. It is a little tight with all six in place with windscreens on, but they are secure, and the top closes easily enough, and the latches and the handle and the exterior all seem built to last. The Gator logo lets you know which side is up, if you had any doubts. If you have some other configuration of microphones, or a different number than six, this may need some adaptation, but we use four regularly, and have two for backups or to add one if necessary. Before we were using one of the Vault cases, with some other stuff in there to take up the extra space, but this is far superior. Couldn't be better for our use.5Good protection and well made, but needs modifications to be top notch. My only complaint with this case is there is little to no foam at the bottom of the mic cut-outs. So the mics drop into the cut-outs too far and will flop around with the case closed. I solved this by buying some 3/4" road case foam and cutting it to the mic shape and just pressed in down into the cut-outs. Now the SM58's sit up higher and are easier to put in/get out of the case. When the case is closed the foam of the top lid slightly compresses against the grilles. Mics are nice and snug with the lid closed, no more flopping around. This would be 5 stars if Gator had just put this foam in at the factory. In the end, I like the case enough, I bought another and added foam to that one too. I use one for Shure SM58's and one for SM57's with no issues.4Gator padded 12 microphone caseMost of these reviews are for similar products, not sure why Amazon has a hard time showing reviews for the EXACT product, so to be clear this review is for the Gator small padded 12 space microphone case (GM-12B). Overall it is VERY good for vocal mics like the SM58, but if you have standard condenser vocal mics like the Beta 87A or similar they won't fit without pushing the top down very hard. Same with non standard sized mics like the e609... the top hole isn't designed for anything shaped differently than round. I'm worried that pushing the Beta 87A into its space compresses the bottom foam as well as stresses the zipper out when trying to close the bag. Doesn't make sense to me why a mic bag won't hold a standard mic.4The handheld mics fit great! Using the other one for a Sennheiser EW-D1 ...Currently I have three of these. Using two for Audix AP61 receivers with OM2 wireless mics. The handheld mics fit great! Using the other one for a Sennheiser EW-D1 Digital system. The Sennheiser 835 digital wirelesss handheld just barely fits, thanks to it's extended battery on the end :)GREAT case, comes with a strap if you want to use it. I just carry them without the strap. Very durable, well made. At events, I just show up and once unzipped (open and tuck each end under the case) and plugged it, my mics are ready to go. Very handy. You can label them on the side.FYI, I keep my lavalier mics in a seperate case, as a personal preference. The bodypack openings seem fine.5Could have been great, but still gets there with some minor home modifications to foam.Nice, sturdy, and compact hardshell case for compatibly shaped and sized mics only. Small footprint makes it easy to pack in with other equipment, but leaves no room for cables, although you could fit a few spare mic clips into the factory pre-cut spaces if you didn't need all six for mics. The factory pre-cut spaces are just a bit short for my 7.0" long off-brand SM-58 look-alikes. Foam is soft enough that I can easily press the mics into it so they fit, but that reduces the already barely sufficient uncompressed 5/8" foam width at the ends of the mic cutouts. The foam layer at the bottom of the cutouts is worthless, so you will want to add some additional scrap foam (such as the green stuff in my pictures) to beef that up a bit and cradle the mics better. There's plenty of soft foam thickness in the top of the case, so I made my added foam inserts pretty thick, and let the windscreen ball compress into the top foam a bit (you can see the resulting indentations in the photos). With minor modifications as mentioned, this is a great case for it's specific, limited, intended purpose of carrying 6 SM-58 style mics. Lost one star because of narrow perimeter foam width, and the almost non-existent foam thickness at bottom of cutouts. If they had built this with four equally thick layers of foam with matching cutouts in the two center layers and two nice, thick outer layers, and made it just a bit taller to increase perimeter foam width at ends of mics, this would have gotten five stars no problem. Although nice and small for transporting or packing in with your other gear, be aware that its small size also makes it an easy target for someone to pick up and stick under a jacket, so keep an eye on it during set up and tear down, or your six expensive mics might easily disappear out the door.4Good and convenient protection for your mikes. The case arrived fairly quickly and in good shape. The pocket is just big enough to hold my two wireless receivers, along with their power supplies, and a couple of short XLR cables. The mike holes are 8.5" deep - enough to hold a longer-than-standard mike. (A Shure SM58 is 6.5" long) My biggest complaint is that there are no finger holes to make extracting a mike easier. If you do not jam the mike deep into the hole it will stick out and the lid will be pushed out, thus receiving less protection. If you jam it in far enough to fully enclose the mike, it can be difficult to remove. As is typical, a skinny mike like an SM57 just flops around in the hole.Seams, stitching, and zippers seem typical of Gator products - solid and well made. The front pocket has no subcompartments, but offers a convenient place for extra cables and mike clips.Overall, I am very satisfied with the product. It offers good protection in a convenient package. While it will not stand up to crazy gorilla handling, it should put up with a reasonable amount of tame gorilla abuse. If you need more protection than this case offers, you will need to go to a full hard shell case instead.4
