Customer Reviews

Great with a catchHere's the thing. The strings are inexpensive, bright sounding, and individually packaged... And all of that is great. But here is my complaint: these strings are not that happy/easy to catch harmonics on. Pinch squeels are possible but not as easy as the prior strings I had (DR Hi-Voltage Dimebag edition strings) . For that matter neither dime squeel/divebomb harmonics, natural harmonics, etc. Also they are somewhat twangy . But for the money , I still give them my thumbs up4Strings sound great. No issue with the actual productStrings sound great. No issue with the actual product. But it's annoying that all 36 strings are loose in one bag. You'd think they'd put 6 separate sets together in one package, but no. Nope. Here's 36 individual strings that you have to sort out.Great product. Annoying package.4Good Deal!I've been a GHS Boomers player for the better part of 20 years. In a pinch I'll use whatever is available, but when I restring one of my guitars I use GHS Boomers 10-46. When I opened the bag I was expecting 6 individual packs stuffed inside, but no there are 36 individually packaged strings. They did have the good graces to put them together as sets, but you have to pull them all out, grab the set and cram the rest of them back in. No real complaint, just something to look out for if you were expecting separate packs like I was.5Great Value on Guitar Strings That Saves ResourcesI always liked the sound of GHS Boomer guitar strings, but I tend to break the lighter gauges more often than the Ernie Ball strings I regularly use. Thought I would try this new pouch packaging that includes individual string envelopes sorted in order to replace the entire set. Each envelope is sealed to keep the strings from corroding and the pouch is resealable and does not require as much packaging. Love the sound of these strings and will see how long before they start to break.5My go to strings for forty years, and countingWhen I was a kid, I bought my first set of GHS Boomers. Forty years later, I'm still using them. I've tried most of the other brands, and they all have good and bad characteristics, but the GHS strings have always been the most consistent. They last quite a long time before they get too flat to sound in tune, and when I gig regularly, they're inexpensive enough to keep fresh strings on the four to six guitars that play every gig. Different gauges work better for different scale length guitars. I like 9s for 25 1/2 inch guitars, because of the higher string tension. I use 10s for my 24 3/4 inch Gibson guitars. For slide work, and alternate tuning, I use the Thick Core Boomers for more depth in the tone. Everyone has a favorite string for varying reasons, and these are my favorite, because they work.5What happened to GHS Boomers? These GHS Boomers (.009 - DY42 set) were dead right out of the package... Individually wrapped and a pain to open...they were lifeless...no tone...no clean Strat sparkle/chime...adding overdrive/distortion made the guitar disappear into a muddy abyss...and even after 72hrs it was still a struggle to keep the strings to pitch...at that point I removed them and replaced them with my regular strings...IMHO D Addario has nothing to worry about when it comes to making and selling string if this is the best that GHS can offer...save your pennies and look elsewhere...QC at GHS is sliding down that slippery slope of no repeat business from this musician...1These are really the industry standard when it comes to affordable high-quality guitar stringsGHS Boomers were the first set of strings I bought when I started playing almost 20 years ago and they sound just as good now as they did back then. It is no wonder why so many world class musicians have used Boomers over the years. Great tone for the price and, like so many other reviewers commented on, the durability of these is great. I rarely ever break a Boomer and I tend to leave them on my guitar way too long but they still don't break. I will occasionally try other stings and find some that I like and a lot that I don't but I always know that I can count on GHS Boomer to deliver so that has sort of become my baseline string over the years and the one I measure the others against if that makes sense. Definitely worth spending a few bucks and trying if you have never played them before....if you have played them before you probably aren't reading this review and instead are most likely just hitting 1-click checkout.5Served me well over the years, great long lasting electric guitar stringsForgot to wipe them down and they ended up grungy eventually decided to change the cords because the grime got stuck even after repeated cleaning it was time to change them since they served their purpose and did last for so long and still maintained a great sound quality despite being aged and used so much. These are great for long lasting playing to jam on. they held up their tuning well till their final days had to-do a bit of re-tuning till I decided it was time to remove them they still were strong despite having grime that I attempted to clean them but could never get all of it off overtime. anyways I had to clean the fretboard more really well so it was time for a set of new strings.5Loving this little dealI keep ordering bags of these. LoL. It is a worthwhile deal and quite nice to have the bag of them. The strings are individually packaged, but that was fine with me. I had found a plastic ammo box-style tool box from VIP that I use for my strings. The strings fit perfectly within the box and are always stood up and ready to pluck out for use. Anyways.....this is a good deal on strings. Go for it.5(Insert Battlestar Galactica Reference)GHS Boomers are "best in class" for solid-body electric guitar, hands down. I've played all kind of other strings, and these are just exactly what I'm looking for. When I first started playing I was using Slinky's because I didn't know any better and I had looked at their long list of folks who use them. Never going back to those. That said, this sort of thing is a personal decision and depends on what sound and feel fits you best. But you're doing yourself a big disservice if you haven't dropped $5 to try these out. I haven't enjoyed any of the other lines of GHS strings so much, but like I said, for electric guitar Boomers are where it's at.5
