Customer Reviews

My go to strings nowGreat sounding strings, and like that they are individually wrapped. So many companies are going to putting 2 or 3 strings per pack in a set. That is extremely inconvenient when you need to do a quick single restring at a gig. That is why I stopped using Dean Markley strings a couple of years ago. After trying a few alternatives, I ended us with GHS - a brand I used to use ages ago (boomers, back then).Nickel Rockers have a bit warmer and rounder tone than all steel strings. All GHS strings I've used (nickle, boomers, flats) have worked well for me for tone, consistency, and durability. Choice depends on the tone I'm after.5Have potential sucksPrice is great, and I like the sound, and reduced finger sliding noise on the wrapped 4,5 & 6 strings. However, for string 6 there is way too much finger "catch" and feeling of sandpaper abrasiveness. It seems that the roller semi-flattening of the string creates a sharp edge one feels. I have have tried to reduce this with some 600-1500 grit sand paper but that only helps a bit. I like the concept but at the end of the day these suck and I want to change them out.2My Preferred Electric StringsI prefer these strings because, (1) They are a cross between the round-wounds with great tone and the flat-wounds with smooth action. These hit a lovely balance between both. (2) They come in a gauge I prefer for staying in tune easily all the way up the fretboard, with very little sharpening due to fingering. Of course, if you just love bending the pitch, these will not meet your hopes! But for me, I usually prefer a note that's right-on when I first sound it. (3) They seem to last a wonderfully long time - highly resistant to corrosion from finger oils. (Not surprising for a nickel composition.)5Very happy with GHS Nickel RockersWhen it came time to have my first guitars given preventive maintenance in the way ofa full setup and change of strings, the guitar tech asked me what brand of strings do I use.I had no idea what came on the guitars when I bought them, so I indicated no knowledgeor preference of brands, and actually asked him to recommend something. These were his choice.I was primarily pleased with the fact that these strings do not "squeak" as much as whateverwas originally on the guitars. I have stuck with them ever since on my main guitars.I do experiment with other brands, but these are what I prefer for my main playing.5Great Strings, Minimal Fretboard NoiseThese are great strings, with roughly average lifespan, and sweet tone that's a little on the mellower side of things, but not so much that they'll hold you back from harder rock styles. They stay in tune well and I've yet to have one break. Bends are a breeze, and slides are smooth and quiet thanks to the roller-wound bottom strings. Chord changes -- particularly barre- and power-chord slides and changes -- are much quieter than with normal round-wound strings, and these are easier on the fingers as well. It's not a tremendous difference: roller-wound is much closer to standard round-wound than to the flat-wound strings used by jazz players and bass players, but the difference is noticeable. Highly recommended to all but heavy-metal players who might want something more along the lines of GHS' cold-steel line.5GHS Strings are as good as you hear!I used DR Pure Blues for stringing up my Fender Stratocaster with Custom '69 pickups because they were a bit warmer sounding than regular strings. But honestly the high E string just never felt right to me for bending and more importantly kept breaking after a couple weeks or so just when they started to feel good. Still I put up with them because of the sound but no more!I would have probably made the switch sooner to GHS Nickel Rockers but they were never available at any of the stores I frequent. After purchasing GHS Boomers at one of these stores and liking them for what they were tonally I finally committed to ordering the Nickel Rockers I always wanted to try. These strings are great sounding and feeling! It's all subjective as we know... but I like how they mellow my pickups and feel when playing. YMMV. More importantly, they bend well right out of the box and no broken strings yet!5The Picture is Wrong! When i initially ordered these strings, I was expecting "Burnished" Nickel Rockers. When i opened the first package, The strings I recieved were in Grey and Red packaging and were not the Burnished strings I was expecting. I sent them back to Amazon and recieved the same thing a few days later. On closer examination of the picture, I noticed that the strings sent to me were correct but the picture on Amazon is different and is exactly the picture of the packaging used for "burnished" strings (Black and Blue package) except for the description on the package. If you use these strings, you know what i am talking about. This manufacturer like others makes many types of electric guitar strings. I like the brand and will try this type and order the ones I REALLY want. I hope the folks at AMAZON will put the correct picture for this product to avoid confusion for others.4They're ok, but I like brighter-sounding strings.I bought some of these because I saw Eric Johnson used this style of string (he has his own signature brand, though). Overall, they are OK. They sound kind of "mellow" or "muted" to me. I don't hate them, but I still think I like GHS Boomers better, especially since I play a lot of clean stuff on my Stratocaster. Removing brightness isn't a bad thing depending on what sound you're going for, so it's not necessarily a negative. If you ARE looking remove some brightness, you may want to consider these.4Good price, great strings!Decent price, great strings! I have used these strings exclusively for over 10 years now, will NEVER play any other strings. They will tear your fingers up at first but you will quickly build callouses with frequent use. These can be hard to find in retail stores, even the bigger ones and they normally cost $10 and up when you get lucky and find a shop that stocks them. I order at least 4 at a time since I use only these and the free shipping for orders of $35+ is a bonus.4rigth-in-the-middle !These not-pricey strings are just great for classic rock and blues needing a 'warm' sound, but can "get-away with" just about ANY style, as they have that "right-in-the-middle" tone, neither overly bright or dark ......Roundwound, but slightly 'flattened' (according to company) and feel that way, at least to me (NOT a complaint !) Esp. good for the money, imo ...4
