Same good quality as 10+ years agoThe finish is "improved" a coarse texture, but the connections arrear the same as the old reliable HOSA parts.canon judge durability over a couple of days, but I see no reason why this wont hold up. The sockets appear to be silver in color, not gold, but thats true of most XLR connectors.
5Ordered two, one was badAs with anything you should immediately test when received. When I plugged this into a male jack then removed it I found that one of the two gender-benders I'd ordered had a female pin that would not stay in the connector shell.Being an old electronics tech I noted that the locking tab was deformed - poor quality components.Due to the low cost I decided to send it back using Amazon's automated system and I'm waiting for a replacement now.
21/4" end separated after a week of light use; ...1/4" end separated after a week of light use; solder points on internal wires gave out almost immediately. Might be a QC issue, as the overall design (all metal) and HOSA's reputation is what made me choose this adapter in the first place.
2Must have in my video bag! This is a must have in my video bag. When I'm filming an event of any kind, this thing plugs into the DJ/sound guys's board with my wireless mic, and I'm set for the night. No noise or issues that I've seen. I like that this one has the XLR lock, I bought one previously that I didn't notice didn't have the lock, and I hated it and returned it because it would loosen if anyone picked it up to move it. You're in good shape with this adapter!
5Not a good product for me...This happened (check out my picture) in about 3 to 6 months of use. I guess you by cheap, you get cheap results.
1Works but flsy set screws all come looseWorks but the set screws come out after a few years of use. All of mine are starting to disassemble themselves while in my workbox. C mon hosa stop making such flimsy adapters!
3Good AdapterI was using this to change an adapter from male to female ( sounds a little sexy) in some mike work. It is a sturdy, durable adapter for any application, sexual or otherwise.
5Solves many headaches. You need one if you use XLR!At this price, can you afford NOT to have one of these in your bag? If you use XLR equipment, just buy it.While my typical set-ups for video don't require an adapter like this, I recently found myself at an event where I wanted to pull an audio feed directly from the house mixer board. Only problem was that their cables didn't mate up to the recorder cables I was using. Luckily, the A/V guy had one of these handy and was generous enough to loan it to me. It worked like a charm and I ordered one from my cell phone before I even left the venue. Don't get caught without one!
4Doesn't work and can't returnI ordered two and tested both right away. One worked but the sound would crackle if the adapter was jiggled. The other didn't work at all. I tried to return the defective one and for some reason Amazon would not let me. I don't have time to contact the manufacturer for product support for a $9 item that I know is simply defective. So I have to eat it this time.
1I couldn't figure out why my studio monitors were so ...I couldn't figure out why my studio monitors were so noisy with a constant buzz, was even thinking of returning them or having them repaired. It turned out to be because I was connecting them to my audio interface with unbalanced 1/4" TR to XLR microphone cables. Using this adaptor with a standard xlr cable and a female to female barrel connector on the other end, I was able to eliminate the noise. Now they sound the way they should. (silent when nothing is playing)
