Customer Reviews

Oscar Isaac!!!! Yes.Oscar Isaac has a most excellent singing voice, gentle and mellow yet quite masculine. Tracks 1. and 6. are a perfect example of his talent, so good. Unfortunately Track 2. could have been just as good except the "harmony" of Marcus Mumford quite dominates "Fare Thee Well" with his signature caterwauling style. Sorry, I'm not a Mumford fan, but ifyou are then you will love it. Overall I would recommend it just to hear Oscar Isaac sing. Also,I really wish that Patti Smith (from the promotional NYC Town Hall concert) could have somehow been included.4A fine soundtrack of an excellent movieThis soundtrack of mostly traditional folk songs features Oscar Isaac who performed the role of Llewyn Davis and both sings and plays acoustic guitar. It also has vocals by among others Justin Timberlake and Marcus Mumford and even one each by Bob Dylan and Dave Van Ronk from the milieu the film depicts. The production by T Bone Burnett and the Coen Brothers provides excellent arrangements to support the superb vocal performances.5Old songs, new favoritesI am an old folk music fan, and this album presents a fresh take on some old favorites, as well as some I never heard before. The voices and arrangements are delightful. I can hardly wait for the film's release5The Coens & T. Bone Burnett Have Done It Againi've been haunted by the music in this movie ever since seeing it, and i am happy to say that the soundtrack lives up to my memory from the movie. T. Bone Burnett was also on board with the Coens for their "O Brother" soundtrack, and the quality shows. the music is beautiful, and has been on repeat for me ever since buying it. the only jarring note is the funny send-up "Please Mr. Kennedy", which, if you've seen the movie you will already be expecting. it's not a bad song, and it's really funny in its own right, but it just doesn't flow well in the overall tone of the rest of the music. TLDR: highly, highly recommended.5Great GiftAnother gift for mom. One of my favorite shows used a cover of one of the songs on it and I listened to the rest of the album and thought she'd love it. She does and said the covers of some of the older songs used in the movie are better than the originals; high praise from mom.5How it wasI was there and this is how it looked and this is how it sounded. These guys would have fit right in.TomPaxton54 1/2 Stars! This is very good music on a very good soundtrack. Oscar Issac does a lot of the singing, but there are also vocals by Marcus Mumford (Mumford & Sons), Justin Timberlake (who I'm normally not a fan of, but does wonderful work here with music that is definitely not his usual type), and lots of others. Mr. Isaac does an incredible job on his tracks, and really shines on The Death of Queen Jane. Five Hundred Miles is a song that really makes you feel the longing of the protagonist. And Please Mr. Kennedy is ridiculous in a very fun way.If you've seen the movie, you know most of what you're getting here. It's early to mid-century folk music. It's not much of surprise what a good collection this is since it's a collaboration from the same people who brought us the O, Brother Where Art Thou? soundtrack. O, Brother is better, in my opinion, but this is still very, very good.4A soundtrack you'd expect from the Cohens.I can't say I'm a folk music fan. But I found this movie so compelling and engaging, including the music as presented on screen, I noted the soundtrack as a CD worth buying. It hasn't turned me into a folk fan. But I enjoy this collection nonetheless. More later if I have time! Also, thanks to the Cohens for making movies that do not simply entertain but engage the mind on myriad levels. Their movies are fun!4OUTSTANDING COLLECTIONThis is an outstanding collection of great songs of yore. The up-tempo version, contrary to expectations, of 500 Miles was excellent and still evoked the sadness of that magnificent song. "Please Mr. Kennedy" was not among my favorites, but fit the theme.of the period. "Green, Green Rocky Road" is simply magnificent, as are, "The Last Thing on My Mind" and "Fare Thee Well (Dink's Song)". All songs fit the era and are excellent testaments to that period of Folk music, even the great performance of the depressing "Hang Me, Oh Hang Me",5The best movie sound track I have ever heard! The music, like the movie is brilliantly composed. I love hearing Oscar Issac play guitar and sing! He is very talented and shows true emotion to each song. Of course I must say one of my favorite songs is Please Mr. Kennedy a catchy tune featuring Justin Timberlake, and Adam Driver! It is a hit for not just me, but my 8 and 10 year old too! It is cool to say, here s Poe and Kylo Ren singing together before Star Wars! Of course it is Oscar and Adam, but it is such a fun song. Fare thee well (both versions), Hang Me, Oh Hang Me , Green, Green Rocky Road The Shoal Herring , The Death of Queen Jane are my personal favorites along with Please Mr. Kennedy. I hope this review is helpful. Five stars for sure!5
