Customer Reviews

Best bang for your buck. Amazing.Amazing.. I couldn't be more happy. And to who ever was talking about them shutting off at lower volumes.I DID NOT experience this issue. I believe it is user error on his part.It explains in the user manual (which I doubt he read) that all you'd need to do is turn down the speaker vol and turn up vol on the input.5Nice monitors, save one "feature"...Overall, I think these are really nice monitors for the price and are the perfect size for my home studio. They sound good, look good, come with all the connection options you would expect from studio monitors and the low frequency, high frequency and volume trim pots on the rear are a nice addition.I would have given these 5 stars if it weren't for one "feature", the built-in 30 min. auto standby function. I gather this is KRK trying to be green and help you save power but I see this as a nuisance and completely unnecessary. Not only do I use these for home recording but I also use them to listen to music at low volume while at work during the week. Herein lies the problem, if the monitors do not detect an audio signal of what KRK considers sufficient strength, they will shut off on their own after ~30 minutes. I note that even though the sound shuts off, KRK thought it would be ok to keep their logo illuminated (don't want to save too much, do we?). Annoying at best. I am more than capable of turning them off when not in use to save power when I decide it's time, not when some electrical/audio engineer, focus group or corporate clown sees fit. The least they could have done was give the end user the ability to either adjust the standby signal threshold or disable the auto standby completely, maybe via a potentiometer or dip switch on the rear of the monitor. Honestly, I've considered returning these monitors numerous times because of this single "feature".4AmazingI do some music recording (mainly guitar) at my home studio and for the past 2 years, I was being really cheap with my speakers and just used a pair of logitech speakers (yes, I know it was not the brightest idea). They just stopped working a month ago, so it was my time to look for actual speakers for music recording.I had done an extensive research and found a pair of speakers from $99 with high ratings to a pair of $400 speakers.I ended up going with this one (wanted something that I'd be happy with for many many years to come) and I can say that I am extremely satisfied with them. They have such a good midrange sound with, in my opinion in, enough bass to record vocal and guitar tracks (that's what I mainly do).I honestly can't find anything bad to day about them!5MUST HAVE FOR HOME STUDIOUpgarded to these from the Mackie CR3's and they pale in comparison to these. If you're mixing/mastering in a home studio environment, these monitors are the only ones you need to start pumping out crystal clear, balanced mixes.5Everything I could have asked forThese speakers were everything I wanted out of a pair of home studio monitors. They have crystal clear sound, and are perfect in my workspace. I was debating between these and the 8's, and I'm glad I went with these because the 8's would've been GINORMOUS and way too much for what I needed them for (see attached picture; The screen is 19"). I tested the sound when I got them, and there is no crackling/wavering at all! The only thing I didn't like was they didn't come with cables to plug into your interface, but that was only an extra 20 bucks, and a trip to Guitar Center. These are perfect.5Incredible ValueFirstly, what you get for the money is incredible. I've been into mid- to high-end audio for a while, and these monitors shine for what they are. As a point of reference, I got these for my home office desk/workstation, have them mounted on ear-level stands and providing a signal with a dedicated DAC/pre-amp hooked up to my MBP. My room is somewhat acoustically damped as well. Sound stage, separation, tonal quality are superb (read: flat) as my ears can tell, and at the end of the day, regardless of numbers, that is what matters. The only reason I didn't award the 5th star: It would have been a big plus to have the option of a sub out. Given the form factor, there simply isn't a way to defy the laws of physics to produce deep bass. I think the challenge of KRK is that each speaker is independent, unlike other monitors which have all the amplification in one channel, and simply feed a signal to the other channel. So effectively "which monitor do you pull the lower frequencies from?" So I think I understand why this wasn't done. Of course this could be done with a mixing board, but that requires add'l hardware.4I'd love to give these 5 stars for the quality of ...I'd love to give these 5 stars for the quality of sound and build of these speakers, but they have one very annoying power-saving feature of automatically shutting off. They shut off even when the speakers are playing at lower volumes. When I'm trying to sleep in a quiet room with low volume, I get them to the perfect level and then 5 minutes later they shut off. Ridiculous! There's no documentation in the manual or their website. There is no way to adjust this feature. I have an earlier generation of these Rokit 5s that did not have this issue. That said, I just recently moved to a louder area with street noise so this won't really be a problem for me anymore, but it shouldn't have been a problem to begin with. 4/54So far so good!I ordered these after reading a few hit or miss reviews but so far they have been great! Something that I think a lot of people are maybe over dramatic about it the sort of of automatically turning off fuction. It only takes half a second of playing something to get them to turn back on and really isn't that big of a deal.5Definitely recommend!I have had the Rokit 5's for a little over 3 years now. They are still in use and I love them. Great bass response for a 5 in speaker. Although over the years I noticed they are too small for my room. I have a room over the 2-door garage so it is very long and I find I don't get enough oomf from these guys. Probably because my room isn't treated very well and I don't have a sub. I recommend if you have the money for it to get the KRK K10 sub woofer with these if you want to get super serious about production. I got these speakers before I really knew a whole lot about room treatment so they have worked great for my productions over the years. Definitely recommend!5I was immediately satisfied and productive after hooking these up to my DAWI finally got around to buying mixing monitors for my home studio and it has made all the difference. What used to take days of fine tuning takes a single night. As far as sound quality, they are great, but it's not about how pleasant they are, it's about how accurately they playback your mix. Many other speakers I've used have exaggerated highs and/or lows, designed primarily to make you think they have a wider range. I can't say for certain that they are "accurate" but what I can say is that after mixing my song with these, it finally played back on every device, including car stereos, without and harshness or muddiness. I know that if I remove the muddiness and harshness I hear on these monitors, it will be removed on others too without changing the overall sound. These are built solid, very solid, and very heavy.I was immediately satisfied after hooking these up to my output device. I use an old M-AUDIO Fast Track Pro as a 96KHz D/A converter for monitoring on these speakers and headphones. They are connected to the ch 1&2 TRS outputs via TRS-to-XLR cables. The only warning I can give is to make sure you power off the speakers before inserting/removing cables. It produces a very loud pop whenever you do.Quick tip: You don't have to waste money on overpriced foam pads for these speakers. The foam blocks used in the packaging is already cut to fit your speaker and act as very effective vibration isolators. They are ugly as heck, being while plastic packaging foam, but I can attest to their excellent function.5
