Love ShakiraGreat music with a good beats!5Best female musician in the world!!!Has several of my personal favorite's from Shakira. Like Underneath Your Clothes so well I also found the EP with the acoustic version. Great addition to my cassette collection and sounds awesome through my Pioneer dual cassette deck. Also have CD but this review is for the cassette version, which I prefer soundwise vs a cd with the right stereo settings. Objection, Whenever/Wherever both rockin' Shakira tunes and like them better in her native Spanish tongue. When I find an LP version my collection will be complete. Unfortunately her last cassette release.5Shakira's not going anywhere (but up). With all due respect, Ms. Arnold couldn't be more wrong. Voices don't come with much more power, control, or range than Shakira. Absolutely incredible vibrato. I'd suggest you listen to more than "Laundry Service" before making such judgements. She can make sounds with her voice you'll swear came from a synthesizer. And she makes the same sounds live as well - this isn't studio gloss. Quite and gentle as mouse or roaring like a lion. From low and guttural like "Se Quiere, Se Mata" to high and loud like "Your Embace". And styles all over the place as well. Try "Obtener Un Si" or "Illegal" for some laid-back Smooth Jazz listening or "Poem to a Horse" for some in your face rock-n-roll. Or try "Hay Amores" and "Despedida" for a South American Folk sound (two she wrote and performed for a movie sound track - Love in the Time of Cholera).Shakira is not new. She started in the business before she was a teen-ager and her first two albums (Magia [Magic] and Peligro [Danger]) were released only in Columbia. She also did some acting on a Columbian Soap Opera. And by-the-way, she has produced every one of her own albums and was the #4 Female money maker in 2008.This amazing Singer, Song Writer, Composer, Musician, Dancer, Choreographer, Producer and philanthropist will be around for a long time to come. Being drop dead sexy won't hurt her career any either.5Can't Stop Playing This CdOriginally in my collection but was damaged i never actually listened to it cover to cover. This time around I'm more appreciative of this album I can't stop listening to it it's really wonderful and well produced. Anyone reading this review should totally get this album, it's amazing.5Finally a new soundThe first time I ever heard (and saw) Shakira was her Saturday Night Live appearance. I was floored. My musical tastes are generally metal, metal, and more metal. I decided to watch and listen. Her band was great and Shakira is the most original performer I've seen in ages. What was most important was that she really seemed to be having fun. I immediately ordered LAUNDRY SERVICE.After giving LAUNDRY SERVICE a couple of listens I wasn't disappointed. I would tend to agree with some other reviews in that I feel that the Spanish lyrics seem to be more fluid at times but I wouldn't hesitate to buy another CD she puts out. I think that at times her English vocals are hard to catch because that excellent band almost drowns them out. I'm not complaining. Believe me. I just think the mixing could be ever so slightly adjusted. Besides...being into metal for many many years I'm used to picking up the liner notes and reading lyrics. Right now I'm excited to be hearing the new fusion of sounds and all she has to say.If you've been searching for something original that rocks give SHAKIRA's LAUNDRY SERVICE a listen. I doubt you'll be disappointed. She's like a pop star except more of a rock fusion star. Oh yea... and she's got talent to spare. They may be "small and humble" but that's fine. They might get in the way of all that talent.I can't believe I've gone from Black Sabbath to Zeppelin to ACDC to Iron Maiden to Metallica to Sepultura and on the lighter side U2. Now I'm listening to Shakira? She's that good.4Just a talented artist!!What can I say... anyone who doesn't appreciate her singing is suspect in my book. And this from a man who gravitates from 60's trucking music too country, and Shakira!!5Love this album! There are very few albums where I can say I like all the songs on it. Most of the time, there are--if you are lucky--three songs you like on an album. The rest are either not great or not your thing. This particular album is the one album where I actually do like all the songs. I really love doing house cleaning while I listen to it. What is nice is that the album has some of Shakira's more popular songs, like Obsession Tango and Wherever, Whenever in both Spanish and English.5A Taste of Things to ComeAlthough several of the tracks on Shakira's English language debut are translations of previous Spanish hits, sometimes with mixed results as far as coherence, this is a danceable collection of reasons to get out of bed in the morning with all the shades of being a teenage girl in the early 2000s. Although she would evolve musically from here, you never forget your first Shakira CD, and this is still very much worth a listen.4This is what made her famous. This is what made her famous. I don't know how much energy she expends to give this album? Then when you consider the lyrics in her songs, that show great death and understanding of human nature. She take those words so deep makes a story we want to hear, then sings it at at 90 miles an hour. Can you imagine if English was her first language?5hauntingI know, I'm behind the times. I have listened to Shakira since she broke into the American music scene but only just now got around to buying this album.I've heard and read about tons of people who complain she's too commercial on this album. Fine, it's pop. Meaning popular.Still, even if you're distracted by that there's no doubt that her voice is haunting. Just freaking awesome. She stands out.I plan on getting most her other albums over time. This one is a lot fun to listen too.4
