Great quality chunky yarn!
I am absolutely in love with this yarn. It is a great quality for cowls, hooded cowls, scarves, hats, gloves and much more. I don't really recommend it for tiny baby items. I just think that those tiny items look better made out of thinner yarns. This yarn is soft and thick. It is 20% wool and 80% acrylic. The yarn is not itchy at all. I mostly use it to make hooded cowls for toddlers and kids. I have had nothing but great reviews on the color, quality, and softness of this yarn. It is a must buy!
56- Super Bulky: Bulky
I got 2 skeins instead of:6- Super Bulky: Bulky, Roving Yarn; 6-Ounce (170 g), 106 yd (97 m); Each skein measures 8.5 by 3.75 by 3.75-inchI understood this to be 6 skeins per. I ordered 2 expecting to get 12 skeins for $12.+ a skein. Way way over priced.
1Great yarn, questionable prices
This is one of my favorite yarns to knit quick beanies! I don t have issues with it splitting like I do with other yarns, and the texture is soft. Each sheik I use comes out to about 1 1/2 to 2 beanies. However, my one complaint is the price. Certain colors are much, much, much more expensive than others, which is really starting to make me question how badly I want this yarn. I live in an area where there s not many craft stores available, so almost all of my yarn comes from Walmart. My Walmart carries this type of yarn in stock, however, they only have it in white/neutral colors. At Walmart, each sheik is about $5-6. Seeing that some of these colors are priced as high as 3x that price just really seems ridiculous. So either buy the cheaper colors or check out your local craft stores/Walmart first!
4So soft! Beautiful wool blend.
Great product. Very soft and sturdy.
5I have been very pleased with how this is performing
Although I normally use more natural fiber products, this blend is 20% wool, I have been very pleased with how this is performing. The Pussy Hat knitting project is what brought me to this. I've been knitting in the round and the flow is quite smooth but there is a little splitting. There were a few knots but they were not broken ends.
4Terrible quality!
Very disappointed in this yarn. It's full of frays, unraveling strands, and knotted/retied ends which are very noticeable in a large, open weave, arm knit. It's as if someone picked up a bunch of cut pieces from the floor and tied them together to come up with a full skein. I've never had so many problems with this brand, or any yarn before. My finished product looks terrible. It was supposed to be a gift, too.
1Great Bulky Yarn
Lion's Brand produces solid yarns. This is no exception. Lion Brand Wool-Ease Thick and Quick Yarn is a great lower priced bulky yarn.It is a great yarn for beginners and for fast projects. It knits up well. It's soft on your fingers, and it's easy to work with.My only two complaints are the durability and the color choices. It seems to pill a bit. But it's a lower cost yarn so it's a small trade-off. There are a lack of colors. But the colors they do have are vibrant and retain their color well.
4Snugly, Soft, Warm, Quick...What's Not to Like?
I fortuitously stumbled across this yarn via a pattern, which recommended it. Lucky, me! The pattern required two skeins, so I ordered those on December 11th, received them on the 13th, and worked up the cowl, the same day! Holy Smokes! I whipped it out in a couple of hours, with an M sized hook...the time it took to watch a film. It wasn't fiddly. I particularly love how soft it is; snugly-warm. After that first purchase, I was inspired to go into frenzied make-everyone-a-cowl-for-Christmas overdrive and ordered 12 additional skeins! I have Amazon Prime (free, two day shipping on Prime eligible colors), so each cowl cost under $20. I'm happy to say that I completed all the cowls with ample time to spare, including shipping, from the east to the west coast! Yippee! :-) (If you sent as many, "late-again" packages as I have, you'd understand my glee.) I thought this a nice gift for that price.Because I had such a good experience making the cowls, I have since gone on to make a hat, two hooded cowls, and a pair of slippers calling for Wool-Ease Thick and Quick and still managed to get everything else done that one does in a day. Quick.Fortunately, out of the 20 skeins I have worked with so far, I have not had the knotting problem another reviewer expressed. I'm so glad about that. After reading that review, I chanced it, to order this yarn anyway. I'm going to use this yarn for future projects. If I run into any problems, I'll try and give an update.I'm leery of ordering items such as this, with color being so hard to determine accurately via my computer screen, but was happy with the ones I ordered: charcoal (my favorite), black, blossom, fisherman, pine, raspberry, and granite. I wanted to try the cobalt, because I was looking for purple, but it currently (12/2013) isn't Prime available. I haven't made an exhaustive search for this yarn to ascertain the availability of additional colors to what Amazon shows, but I do wish there were more purple shades and tones. My sisters are ga-ga over purple! (By the way, I'm glad Amazon carries this yarn as I live in an area that only carries three colors at Walmart.)This yarn does pill (get fuzzy) a bit. Good luck to you! Happy stitching!
5Warm, thick,with a silver streak
Four stars instead of five because I didn't realize the yarn included a thin metallic "yarn" with the black. Maybe I misread it. But the metallic is not for begins. It is inclined to break, esp. If you try to undo to fix a mistake. That said, once I changed plans and got the hang of it, this knitted up into a thick ultra warm scarf a friend is using on the east coast. The scarf in the photo was double knit with thin purplish color changing yarn.
4Make a statement.
I am halfway finished with a knitted watch cap that I'm making for a man who rides a Harley on weekends with a gang of fellow Hog riders. As his bike and leather jacket are both black, I decided to "spice" up his wardrobe with a little heat (color) from this hat and matching cowl. When I looked at more than two dozen varieties of yarn from several manufacturers, Lion's Wool-Ease Thick and Quick Spice struck me as the perfect match for these projects. The webpage photo doesn't begin to do this yarn justice; its tone is a deep rust red and is three-dimensional, that is, it is iridescent in the sunlight with strands of gold, red and even black. He'll be the Man on Fire amongst his fellow Hog riders, and they'll want their own hats and matching cowls as well. (Hey Amazon, if you could run a sale on this yarn, then a dozen bikers will be grateful for their wardrobe additions that I volunteer to make for them! :) )Another reason to choose a wool-blend yarn like Lion's Wool-Ease Thick and Quick is its wonderful texture and reduced tendency to shed as compared with 100% acrylic. It is very soft and easy on the fingers as you knit. Having knitted a previous watch cap using Lion's 100% acrylic bulky yarn, I noticed that this blended yarn sheds less and appears less worn when handled. That 20% wool makes a big difference. Bottom line is this: if you want to make a fashion statement, buy this yarn.
