Customer Reviews

Love the Yarn. Received TWO different Dye Lots...BEWARE! Love Homespun yarn. Ordered two skeins for a shawl project but received two different dye lots even though these were ordered at the same time. One was in cello wrap; one not wrapped. Would return except I have I knitted over half of the shawl and didn't realize the two skeins do NOT match until it was time to join in new skein! This is the shipper's error and nothing to do with the quality of the yarn. Pretty colorway. Too bad they are very different! Expensive error! 5Horrible product The wool was not in good condition or quality. It had thick places and places that actually came apart and the colour was not consistent, when knit it had red streaks /strips. I was really disappointed because I had bought the same product, same exact colour at the store and it was beautiful. I certainly will not order this product on line again. 1The only yarn I use Homespun yarn is the only yarn I buy anymore. Here are the reasons I love it...Positives:1. Interesting texture, thick, and super soft2. I'm OBSESSED with the colors. I can't get enough. They have 3 different types of colors; painterly, heathered, and multi-tweed. My favorite is the painterly colors (such as painted desert), which gradually change and are absolutely gorgeous!3. I personally don't like complicated patterns. Because of the texture and the changing colors, I can make something extremely simple and it still comes out beautiful.4. Because of the thickness and texture, you can't see knots or any type of yarn changes (or most mistakes).Negatives:1. It can be difficult to work with compared to more conventional yarns. It is best to have a larger hook. I am currently working with an L hook, but I have made scarves with a J hook just fine. Because it is so loosely wound, you will get little strands caught up on your hook often no matter what hook you use. I just got used to it, no big deal.2. The yarn will change thickness throughout the skein sometimes (I think especially with the painterly colors). It is minimum and you can't tell on your product, but it is somewhat worrisome when you get to the thinner part of the skein. It always works out though. The worst that can happen is it gets too thin and you just have to cut off the bad stuff and knot it back up where it is good again. Like I said above, you shouldn't be able to see it.3. It is difficult to see your stitches. You should only plan to do simple patterns with this yarn. When I first started working with it, I had the hardest time keeping my edge even while making scarves. I have since changed to a simple double crochet v-stitch which makes it so much easier to keep the stitches consistent. I just followed the youtube video "How to Crochet the Double Crochet V Stitch". It makes an interesting looking scarf or blanket and is honestly the easiest way to use this yarn that I have found.Overall, this yarn is not perfect. However, it is the only yarn I use anymore. The colors are amazing and there is a huge selection of them (again, I suggest choosing a painterly color such as Painted Desert or Harvest). It is also pretty cheap here on amazon (some of the colors at least). Any skein under $5 is a pretty good deal. You can get it cheaper at craft stores if you watch for sales but it is normally a few bucks more without a sale. 5VERIFY COLORS BEFORE ORDERING! I truly love Homespun yarn, it's soft and warm and looks amazing in even the simplest of stitches. Unfortunately, the yarn in the picture is NOT the correct colors for Windsor. Windsor is much darker than that. I discovered that when I ordered 5 skeins to complete a project I'd started with an unlabeled skein I found at home. The photo matched what I had 100%. Turns out what I had is Waterfall, not Windsor. I had to scrap the project. I'd suggest checking the Lion Brand website to confirm color before you order, because some pictures on Amazon seem to be inaccurate. 3Not good for crocheting Ohhhhhh I do not like this stuff! For me, it was impossible to distinguish stitches when trying to crochet an intricate pattern. I ripped out and started over many times. I finally gave up making the intended shawl. I ended up making plain scarves using a simple single crochet. I have read that knitters like the yarn...but not crocheters. I did not know that before purchasing. 2I really love this yarn I really love this yarn. I'm using Delft with white to produce a winter themed blanket. The color fades from a pale light blue to a deeper medium blue mixed with the white. Its just lovely stuff. The way this particular type of yarn Lion Brand makes is shaped can make it a challenge for some projects. But once you work with it makes some lovely looking stuff. It does not show stitch patterns very well but it will show an over all blanket pattern off. 5BEAUTIFUL COLOR, A BIT HARD TO WORK WITH Just started my project with this yarn. I knit on a loom not with knitting needles. The yarn is a bit hard to work with, kind of separates and bunches together and the ends fray badly. Love the color, reminds my of Goldie Locks hair. I hope the project does not look all frayed when I am finished.UPDATE: This is the worst yarn you can buy. I wish I could give it less than one star. It bunched, frayed, separated and caused me nothing but problems. The last few stitches, even knitting without any tension at all, the yarn broke which made my project a piece of trash. I will never buy this brand of yarn again. I knit hats for the homeless in my area and they deserve better than this.UPDATE #2: I contacted Lion Brand yarn with the same review as above. Their customer service is AWESOME. Debbie contacted me and offered me a replacement. I knit hats for the homeless and she helped me pick something that would give me the most bang for my buck. I probably won't buy this TYPE of yarn again but I will definitely buy Lion Brand! 1Love it I make afghans and scarves on the Knitting Board. I ALWAYS use the Homespun. It is soft and cozy. I use the variegated colors when making afghans because the colors come out in stripes which is beautiful. Pictured is my current project-another afghan. I added solid black for contrast stripes. I love this brand and am happy that Amazon carries it since I live in a rural area and it is almost an hour drive to a store that carries it and the price is comparable to the store. 5Soft, Beautiful Yarn I found the yarn itself a challenge to work with. It is soft and made a gorgeous afghan for my daughter, but the yarn itself would tangle and split and I found myself having to undo my stitch and redo it. A pain, but it was the yarn my daughter liked. The afghan came out beautifully and is soft and cuddly so I can't complain too much. Making my family happy is what counts! 4and I can say I really enjoy working with it I've purchased Lion Brand's Homespun yarn is several colors, and I can say I really enjoy working with it. Its a semi-bulky yarn, and very, very soft. Its fluffy so its not a great choice for items that have a lot of detail and definition, but it knits up easily and although some people have had issues with splitting, I've not had that problem. I've made 3 scarves with these yarn as well as used it as the secondary yarn in a ruffle scarf, and used it to knit fingerless gloves (wristlets/arm warmers). Its machine wash and dryable, and I can see this being nice for baby items as well because it is so soft. Photo is of the Heartwarming Scarf pattern as found on Ravelry. 4
