Customer Reviews

Baggs Lyric, generally happyInstallation was very easy, although I already had an endpin hole that was the proper size due to prior Baggs M1A installation. If that had not been there I would have gone the pro install route. The pickup works as advertised. I am still trying to get the sound I want. But no more so than with any other pickup I have. I have been reading posts on the Baggs forum and elsewhere for helpful thoughts on EQ. They would have been good to read prior to buying. So I would recommend that you check them out. A Google search on Baggs Lyric EQ should do it.Also, I am told that Baggs has a great support team, though I have not contacted them either. But will as I dig into fine tuning more.4ABSOLUTELY OUTSTANDING I have 14 acoustic guitars. This is the best sounding pickup I ve ever heard.I swapped out the K&K pure mini for the Lyric. Watch the video and listen to how natural it sounds, even on an iPhone microphone . It sounds way better in real life. This is by far the most accurate voicing pickup I ve heard. Nothing has hit a home run like this guy!If you re in between the Anthem/ Anthem SL/ and the Lyric,Get the Lyric. The anthem is awesome, but I mainly have it at 100% mic anyway. And the SL is a blend between both. The Lyric was just amazing in its response in a large room and through my acoustic rig.5Sounds Great!Installed a Lyric in my 1976 HD-28. Bridge plate for that model was too small to mount the microphone there, as mfg instructed, so mounted it direct to the top, inside, about 1/2 aft of the bridge plate. Sounds fantastic nonetheless. The volume control has a lip on it, so it lays on the edge of the sound hole. You can't use a sound hole feedback plug because of this. Run it through a fishman loud box artist, sounds just like the guita.4Really wanted it to work, but it doesn't come close to the hype!Yes, even though the Lyric is better than a straight Undersaddle Pickup, it is still very, very far from being a natural sound. I have a Martin POW/MIA limited edition dreadnought, which has a beautiful sound, and the Lyric puts out a muffled, highly processed sound, nothing like the natural guitar sound. The presence control does very little to brighten the sound. To get a sound with any real life in it takes a very good external EQ. I really wanted this to work, since it is extremely easy to install and has a lot of volume from the pre-amp. I don't know what to say about all the good reviews here and on YouTube, but evidently there are a lot of people used to the "quacky" sound of the undersaddle pickups and have never heard their guitar through a microphone. There is simply nothing natural about the sound from the Lyric. All the noise cancelling technology to remove the boxiness in the sound wipes out the nice wood sound and leaves you with a little tiny bit of acoustic and a lot of electric sound. It may be a sound that a lot of people like, but it is NOT natural.2Ok then. After all the hype, I was prepared to be underwhelmed. When I installed it and turned on my PA, the volume was not that high. It matched the actual acoustic sound of my guitar so well that I thought the PA was muted. It's fantastic. Is it a Trance Audio Amulet? No. But was it $550? Nnnnnnope.I'm happy. Yes, you can get it to feedback. Yes it lacks the overblown low end of other pickup designs. Yes there is a little handling noise. And yes, it sounds better than the Taylor ES1.4Great PickupI have a new favorite pickup. I've had many over the years... This is the new best. Adjustable. Microphone tone when you use it. It takes a little adjustment to get it just right, but when you do.... BAM! It's the best sound I've gotten from a pickup.5My husband's Christmas gift this yearMy husband plays several shows a year on his acoustic Martin. He's complained before about having to mic it and himself and how it never sounds just right. Getting this installed on his guitar for Christmas was an excellent gift this Christmas. He was excited and now he can record downstairs without the worry of the mic picking up all of the house noises. Great buy!5Exactly what I needed to make an awesome guitar even betterI recently purchased a brand new Taylor 320 all mahogany acoustic guitar and the only setback I was facing was not being able to plug it in. I looked around and did some research with pickups, microphones, and even piezo systems until I found this Lyric. What really caught my attention was how easy it was to instal and how no modification was needed to install it into my guitar. Within an hour I was playing through my monitor speakers and recording acoustic tracks! What really sets this apart is how it picks up literally any sounds inside and outside of the guitar, since it is a fully functional microphone. I can use my guitar as a percussive instrument just as much as it is a stringed instrument. I am so glad I got it and for the money, it was well worth it! It captures all the small nuances that my hog top has without sacrificing my wallet or modifying the guitar. Definitely get this!5easy to install and non-invasiveReasonably good sound, equal to or better than the K&K mini's I have in other guitars.Installation not overly difficult (other than enlarging the endpin hole-always use a step drill, not a regular drill bit).4Actually sounds like my guitar with NO EQ required!I've not tried it in a live context yet, but I've had no feedback issues sitting facing my Loudbox Mini from a couple of feet away, and it really sounds like my guitar! I'm sold.5
