Customer Reviews

I am so glad that I purchased this oneI must say, I was a bit skeptical to purchase this midi controller. With that being said, I am so glad that I purchased this one. It was a nice touch to my studio and it has more keys than most of this value. I use it with SONAR x3 Producer and my DAW system picked it up instantly, after first hook-up and driver installed. Plug and play. It was set up and ready to go within 5 minutes!I would recommend this to anyone who is on a budget for a home recording studio. I've been using it for a little over a month now and the features it has built in are amazing and very touch sensitive. Pitch bender, phase control, or build it and map it to control as you please! Very well thought out design and will fit on any workstation.Cannot wait to see what they come up with next! midiplus AKM320 midiplus MIDI Keyboard Controller5Great for the price. This works well with my MacBook Pro laptop and GarageBand application. It's plug and play. The keyboard interfaced immediately without the need for drivers. That said, this is definitely not a professional keyboard. I suppose that you could say that the keys are "weighted" but actually they are just kind of stiff and mushy and they do not feel anything like that of a high quality keyboard. This would probably not be appreciated by an accomplished keyboardist. The keys are velocity sensitive but they seem kind of unresponsive and require some getting used too. The GarageBand application that I'm using allows adjustment of key velocity responsiveness which helps. You get pretty much what you pay for. As a non musician hobbyist who just wants to play around with a inexpensive keyboard I'm very satisfied with the ADM320 especially at this price.5Not Plug and Play as AdvertisedUnfortunately this product is not plug and play as advertised. Driver did not automatically load as promised and my computer did not recognize the device. I see from the comments that it does work for some people but I also notice that others have experienced the exact same problem i.e. driver not loading. The owners manual provides no guidance for this problem and, I tried to figure out the correct driver to download from the MidiPlus website, but none of them worked. When I sought assistance through the "Contacts Us" section (yes that is actually how it is spelled) there is actually no working link or contact information. Guess you get what you pay for so, in this case, it will have to be a return.1This is a nice little midi keyboardThis is a nice little midi keyboard. Keys are much smaller than I expected, but it only took a couple of hours to get used to. It immediately synched up to Garageband on my Macbook, and I've been having fun playing notes on an actual keyboard. It has cut my composing time significantly. If you're just getting into music composition and would rather play the notes than punch them in on your computer keys, this is a good place to start.4It's great once you figure it outPlug & play, they said. It just doesn't work that way. Or at least, that was my experience. I plugged it in and nothing happened. Google to the rescue. I found how to look at all the stuff on my computer and saw that the driver had automatically installed itself (or whatever magic happens behind the scenes in computers). I opened Musescore and could barely hear it making notes, and that's with the volume turned all the way up on both the devices and my laptop, but no notes were showing up on the score the way they were supposed to. I let it be for a while, as I had other things to do. Back to Google another day. Plug in keyboard and then open Musescore (for some reason, it doesn't work the other way around). Success! I can hear the notes and they show up on the score as I play them. This is ultimately what I wanted this keyboard for. I also thought maybe I could use this keyboard as a regular piano with some sort of program, but so far, I can't figure out how to use any program I have tried (why do they have to be so complicated?).3Works great for my purposesWorks great using Ableton! Not at all with Studio One.Having never had anything to do with a midi device before, I wasn't sure what to expect. In the end, although Ableton had no problem at all recognizing and using the keyborad, the free version of PreSonus Studio One simply refused to even recognize it. And I tried it on both a laptop and a desktop. Well, to be exact, this isn't completely correct, as I first tried it out on my laptop, and after considerable messing around got Studio One to "see" the device, briefly, and it actually generated some sounds. But the next time I ran Studio One on that machine, and although it still recognized the presence of the device, it would not respond to it. I then tried this out on my desktop, but nothing I did could get Studio One to admit the device was plugged in (even though Windows did). After this I tried Ableton on my desktop, and it recognized and worked with the keyboard immediately. I'm pretty sure the fault lies with Studio One, not the keyboard. Not being an accomplished midi artist, I have to say that I don't know if this keyboard will meet the needs of an advanced user, but for me it works fine -- and has features I am only now starting to discover. It meets all my needs, so five stars is appropriate.5A very impressive little keyboard at an amazing price! The first thing you are sure to notice about this keyboard is the price. Let's compare this to its closest relative, M-Audio Keystation Mini 32. The ADM320 is almost one third the price! So, what is the catch? What is wrong with this? Nothing! This has heavy duty pitch and mod wheels, not just buttons, so you get better control of those features, and it also has backlit octave and most notably, transpose buttons. Many much more expensive keyboards don't have transpose buttons and it is very useful to have them. Both the octave and transpose buttons work in the usual way and if you press both up and down at the same time, they return to neutral(and the backlights go off). There is also a useful volume slider that works very smoothly(do I have to tell you to be sure to keep the slider all the way to the right, which is maximum volume? Well, for those new to this, do it. You only move it to the left, which is lower volume, for effect). The volume slider can also be assigned to other tasks, such as pan, if you use "midi learn" mode in your software. It also has an input for a sustain pedal, surprising on such a small keyboard. One big difference between this and the M-Audio is that this cannot be programmed for different velocity curves and so forth. But the velocity curve it comes with is just fine. The fit, finish, and overall quality are absolutely first class. It comes with a heavy duty six foot USB cable( USB A to USB type B) and an instruction booklet which is very basic since there isn't much you have to learn about this keyboard. But the instructions do a good job of explaining everything for beginners. Comparing the size of this to the M-Audio, the white keys are a half inch longer than the M-Audio. Aside from the keys being a bit longer, the feel is close to the M-Audio, which is rather springy(my preference is less springy). Yes, you really get your money's worth with this! I am extremely impressed with this, especially the price. There is no reason not to choose this if you want a mini midi keyboard with a 32 key range. It also comes in an attractive sturdy box to keep it in. Before I bought this, I found a great demonstration on Youtube. It isn't in English(it is in Portuguese) but he does a great job putting it through its paces and it is easy to understand, so you can see it functions just as I have described.5Non-Working USB Cables Must Be Addressed! This keyboard is pretty cute. I formerly had the Akai MPX keyboard, which looks really cool and which has more features, but which I got rid of because its action was so poor. This much less expensive keyboard has better action. When I first plugged it in, the lights came on but it did nothing. I fiddled around with it for a long time, but nothing but lights. I kind of figured it was a BAD USB cable, so I tried another cable from my pile of cables, and immediately the keyboard sprang to life. With a good cable, it just works with Garage Band. Yay!So! Note to the retailer, wholesaler, and manufacturer: PROVIDE ONLY TESTED CABLES. I was about to send this back as a piece of junk, costing everyone a good deal of time and money. You can thank me for spending the time to correct your unacceptable problem. Therefore, one star, for supplying a bad USB cable that has a high chance of frustrating a very large number of customers.1Loved the keyboard for size, price, & function, but had build quality issues within a week of purchase===UPDATE AFTER RECEIVING REPLACEMENT===I was able to return the keyboard and get a replacement within the span of about three days, which was excellent. The new keyboard has not presented any durability issues, and serves my purposes very well (as described below). I have not yet attempted to travel with it again, but hopefully the key breaking off was an anomaly and I should be able to pack it in carry-ons in the future without any trouble.I've bumped up my review from 2 stars to 4 stars to reflect my satisfaction with the replacement product rather than the original.===ORIGINAL REVIEW===This keyboard seemed like the perfect product for me. I wanted a small, portable USB MIDI keyboard with basic functions (pitchbend and modwheel, octave selection, transposition, sustain pedal input) and no other frills, which was affordably priced and that I could easily travel with to record ideas on the road or to use while finishing tracks in Logic. I was also interested in a small keyboard that I could easily set up next to my drum set, so that I could use it to play occasional keyboard parts with one hand while drumming. The keyboard was half the price of most competitive options, and for the first few days upon arrival I was thrilled with it. The keys are a bit stiff at first but loosen up within the first hour of play, and overall it was serving my needs spectacularly. Shortly after it arrived, I departed for a period of extended travel and packed the keyboard in one of my bags (I was traveling by bus and train for a two week period). Within five days, however, one of the keys broke off. It happened on one of the days when I was not traveling, and I hadn't been using it intensely or heavily, so I really am not sure how to explain it except that the quality of the plastic is just not very high. I guess you get what you pay for; perhaps a more expensive keyboard of the same size would be a bit sturdier. But I was really enjoying the keyboard otherwise so I'm dismayed to have had to review it poorly.Once my travel concluded I was able to send the product in for replacement; I'm hoping that it turns out to be an anomalous product defect and perhaps the replacement keyboard will have a sturdier build. I really like this keyboard as a simple, functional solution to my compact MIDI keyboard needs, so I'd love to bump this review up higher if the replacement turns out to be in good shape.4Price to good to be true? Its worth every cent! The board is excellent. Lots of people have issues getting it to work, but its not the boards fault. The computer will interface with it, then it will show AKM320...now what do I do? Here is the fastest way to get to acquainted with your new board.1) download FL STUDIO 32 bit/64 bit (the software will have a chili pepper logo) (its free) -open FL Studio2)Go to options, Midi settings, inside INPUT box should say AKM320, select it, click ENABLE, controller type is Generic controller.3)This is optional but highly recommended, under controller type will be two boxes about VELOCITY, put NONE in both boxes. Trust me, its really annoying if you are new at this.4) Click on ADD up in the top left corner next to EDIT, almost at the bottom you'll see SYTRUS, click on it. Out of all the options I've tried, this one functions the best. Click PRESETS in upper right corner and HAVE FUN!5
