Description

World-renowned Italian composer Ennio Morricone today signs to Decca Records in a major new record deal celebrating his professional career which spans 60 years and 600 compositions. His new album Morricone 60 will be released on 7th October, just ahead of his 88th birthday, and marks the start of a unique partnership between Decca and the Morricone family. Morricone 60 is the first album of Ennio Morricones greatest hits conducted, recorded and curated by Morricone himself and aims to create a legacy for his fans to enjoy. It sees the celebrated Maestro performing some of his greatest film music from The Good, the Bad and the Ugly to his recent Academy Award-winning score for Quentin Tarantinos The Hateful Eight (released earlier this year on Decca). The album marks Ennio Morricones 60th anniversary as a composer and conductor and features brand new recordings with the Czech National Symphony Orchestra, with whom hes collaborated on major international movie scores. Upon signing the recording contract with Decca, Ennio Morricone commented: After the success of The Hateful Eight score, Im delighted to be returning to Decca with my own record deal an extraordinary moment in my 60th professional anniversary year. Its been a wonderful experience to be able to conduct my scores and to record these with the Czech National Symphony Orchestra. The quality of their performance of my work is truly outstanding.

Customer Reviews

The Good The Bad and The Ugly movie musicExtremely well performed and recorded.5All are masterpieces!Marvelous! Beautiful ! Mr.Ennio Morricone is a genius.5Morricone and more Morricone.I have listened to this CD over and over. It is wonderful.5The most current "greatest hits" collection in sixty years of geniusWith more than sixty CDs of Morricone's music in my collection, including rare stuff and several anthologies, this comes as the most current 'Greatest Hits" as it includes two tracks from 'The Hateful Eight' (2015). Yes, from 60 years of masterful film music. The main plus, I find, is the quality of the sound, state-of-the-art Decca. And even though this is not the 'Rolls-Royce' Czech Philharmonic, the Czech National SO plays like Czechs do, marvelously. However, some gaps pertaining information (not unusual in film anthologies of Morricone, I am afraid!) remain. "Recorded Prague, Dublin, London, Cologne, Antwerp, Amsterdam and Wroclaw" is really vague. in addition to no recording dates. Would I assume correctly that the Kodaly Choir is from Hungary? But they did not record there!(?) Also notice, Morricone does not conduct and the two conductors are mentioned in very generalized credits. So this is, of course, great for the music, which flows almost from one track into another, nicely. But for those of us, serious about collecting this, the whole production is still not optimal. No matter: like the other giant of film scoring, John Williams, Ennio Morricone is probably approaching the end of his creative life; as well he should: he'll 90 this year (11/2018)! This collection gathers some of his best themes in the last sixty years of this genius' musical contribution to film.5Fine CollectionGood sampling from a musical master.5... one reveals the nuances and subtleties of Morricone's work better than Morricone himself when he directs ensembles playing hNo one reveals the nuances and subtleties of Morricone's work better than Morricone himself when he directs ensembles playing his own compositions. The only recording that is more enjoyable than this one is Yo-Yo Ma's interpretation of his works.5Five Starsgreat composer beautiful music every vinyl owner should add this to his or her collection5GiftGood gift5One of the best works of the master MorriconeOne of the best works of the master Morricone, which summarizes many of his best works. It is a pleasure to enjoy every note on this CD.5Wonderful example of his workOutstanding recording. Really like the smooth transition between tracks. High quality vinyl and sleeve.5
