Customer Reviews

Worth the money! For the most part, I haven't been impressed with Music Nomad products. Nothing wrong with them, but they seem to be unnecessary, or similar to what's been around forever but with the addition of a fragrance. (If that matters to you, the Boss all-purpose spray smells even better, IMO.)But this time the Music Nomad "lab" hit it out of the park. Unless you carry a power winder (and they have something for that, too) you're stuck with the plastic string winders they give away free, that wobble and for some unknown reason, are too large for the tuners, so they bang into the adjacent tuner button. The Music Nomad peg winder isn't free, but it works so smoothly that the whole task goes faster. You spend a bit more but there's something gratifying about having the proper tool for the job.5Soft!Works great! And the rubber gripper thing is nice! No worries about scratching. I have the D Addario too. In comparison this is a much better string winder. The D Addario has a hard plastic piece you must slip on your tuner. And an awkward grip compared to the music nomad. It has a string cutter that works great though. And a pin puller I haven t used. The D Adderio is made in the USA too. If you need a do everything tool go with it. If you want the best string winder this Music Nomad is it. I ll submit a comparison photo. They are both available here on Amazon.5As good or better than my old school oneNeeded another string winder and saw high reviews for his one. Generally I use the old, less ergonomic type that has a cut out for pulling bridge pins. This winder rotates very easily - so if you're changing a lot of strings your wrist may appreciate this winder. It won't scratch your headstock and softly cradles your tuning pegs. Nice winder without pin puller5Works, but has a couple of issueI wanted a string winder that could accommodate all sizes/shapes of tuners and won't scratch them. This seemed like it could do all that, and it does, but has other issues. It's very easy for the winder ot slip off while in use, as there's no way to fix it onto the tuner securely. I also wish the clamp portion is deeper/longer, so while winding the handle won't knock into the other tuners so easily. For some tuners I'd have to really force the winder to angle in order to avoid hitting the other tuners.3...I would have given it 3 - maybe 4 stars - but...I have been playing guitar for over 50 years - so I have owned my share of string winders.Sure, the MusicNomad MN221 GRIP String Peg Winder does the job but...I also own the Dunlop 114SI Deluxe Guitar Stringwinder - I paid $5 (one third the price of the Nomad). The winding mechanism on the Dunlap is equally as good as the Nomad. More importantly, the Dunlap has a built in bridge pin puller and a storage compartment (hollow handle with a removable cover) where you can safely put the bridge bins so that they don't accidentally roll away while you're changing the stringsThe Nomad does not have a bridge pin puller - but they are happy to sell you a separate tool for $8.The Nomad does not have a nifty storage compartment for bridge pins - of course you can use a separate cup - but why put something else on the workbench when you don't need to?If you're looking for a stringwinder - save your money - the Dunlap offer more needed functionality and is a well made product.Nomad - if you're listening, I'd like to return this.2Very smoothly driven by a superior designed ball bearing systemAfter using a "good" plastic winder for the last couple decades, I started to look for an alternative. Wanted to stay away from the bulky electrical versions that take batteries or go on into a drill chuck. The Music Nomad winder is quality through and through. Very smoothly driven by a superior designed ball bearing system, combined with great ergonomics. My classical guitar machines have a large button decoration and the universal peg head design holds the peg tightly while turning.Quality built yet not over engineered. Just a pleasure to use and made with quality components. A fair price for a guitar product you will never have to replace!5Effortless to take off and put on guitar stringsIt's like this tool was designed for my hand. I didn't even know I was holding it while I took off old strings and put on my new D'Addario EJ16-3D strings on my six string guitar. The action was incredibly smooth and it held on nicely to the tuning pegs. For my folk style sized guitar, this peg winder had about a 1/4 inch gap between it and the guitar's headstock. It's guaranteed to be a scratch-free experience with that clearance. The only way I can imagine that this tool would get "roughed up" like some photo I saw is if you tied it to your Ford F-150's rear bumper by a rope and dragged it through town. From a mechanical perspective, the mold that was used to form the plastic is top notch. All surfaces are smooth, tightly fit, and have a nice sheen to them. The blue tip is a hard rubber material that doesn't feel rubbery at all. The ball bearings are so friction-free that you can use this as a fidget spinner if you want. It'll spin about 180 degree with one hand warble. The best part is that changing my guitar strings was fast and effortless.5Absolutely the best. No other winder is like itAbsolutely the best. No other winder is like it. It fits gently and snugly, with soft plastic, around your peg head tuning machines on any acoustic guitar. It will not damage them by clunking and banging around like all other winders that fit loosely with hard plastic. It leaves plenty of space between the headstock as well; so no scratching.Great soft grip handle and two ball bearings inside. Music Nomad products just never fail to be the best.5I JUST found a problem with it ...I have had this for over a year and I JUST used it for the first time on a Supro Belmont's tuning pegs which I replaced as an upgrade and modification Kluson Butterfly Tuners. It got ' messy' for lack of a better word off the top of my head to indicate that it got to be a pain in the a** working with it as it kept slipping off the tuner when turning the crank. I do not recall the price; but even on a number of different type tuning pegs I wish I had spent a few more dollars for the battery operated drill type winders. It's 'slightly' better than the most basic, really inexpensive [to include CHEAP] garden variety types that come in a 'Starter's Kit' or something but I have one of those that's just as good as this one now in my opinion. One plus though is that once you have the strings off; by turning the handle downward you can tighten the loose screws on the tuning machine heads on the guitar itself. Trust me. they're probably loose. Just hand tighten them; don't force it; make it snug.4Winding TOOLThis winder is MUCH more robust than the little plastic jobbies they sell at the music store - the ones in the big plastic jar. This feels more like a tool than an "accessory." That's the main reason I bought it and so far I'm completely satisfied.UPDATE: Used this product for the first time today & I love it! It grips the tuning knobs on my Grover Roto-Grips gently but securely. I can wind/unwind strings as fast as I need to with no worries about the handle breaking or falling apart. Very sturdy tool. Takes up a bit more room in my guitar case but definitely worth it. Highly recommended.5
