Customer Reviews

Great blackbook, just remember: DO NOT TEAR PAGES OUT! Pros:+ Thick paper, sharpies do not bleed through if you use them correctly+ Slightly rough, mostly smooth paper, good for pencil work+ Sticker comes right off, the only logo is in the back, but it's depressed into the book and has no color+ Feels good & looks goodCons:- You cannot tear anything out- Erasing doesn't always get pencil outNotes:~ Do not use with COPIC markers~ Do not attempt to tear out paper, it will ruin the book 5Perfect size, paper, and hard cover Perfect! I have been going through sketchbook after sketchbook since I was a teenager, trying to find the right "fit" for me. Most were too large or the paper too rough, too smudgy, or spiral bound which is a nightmare when you carry your book in a backpack. Found this one my second year of college and I immediately fell in Iove. The 8 by 5.5 inch is a good size for how I sketch and the paper is great for the typical HB lead. For inking I use Sakura Micron pens and there doesn't appear to be feathering. I also use grey copics which work fine a nice even color, with a sheet of scratch paper under the page I'm working on, because iit does bleed minutely but that's pretty standard with anything under 90 lbs.I have finished 6 of these sketchbooks and just ordered two online because the only store that carries them in my area was sold out the last two times I checked in. A little more expensive than what my go-to art store sells them for but I suppose that's alright since I've temporarily been using a back up sketchbook which is...not the best. When I bought my very first purse (at age 22, hah) my only specification was that it fit my sketchbook, which it does at a pretty standard purse size. The only way this could get less than 5 stars would be if Amazon sent me the wrong item again... 5Top quality survivor I used these books for both my freshman and sophomore years in high school. I ve still got them today, 6 years later. They ve made it through 5 moves, drops down stairs, dropping from 3 stories up, etc, and they still look new.I recommend gluing or taping the first page to the cover and doing the same for the back page to offer the binding more support. The paper quality is top notch. I can t imagine you ll find a better sketchbook for the price Literally the only reason I got a new one is because my other 2 are locked away in storage all the way in the back 5I am very pleased I bought this to replace a very old hardbound sketch book I had finally used up. Really old, I got the last one 35 years ago as a gift. I was pleased to see that the same item was still available and in fact the paper quality in this book is even better. It's not the same brand as my ancient one but I'm just saying I am very pleased. I had to ask the question "would the sticker on front come off easily?" The answer is yes it does. 5Great Travel Journal I have been using the Pentalic Watercolor Field Books for four years and have completed 7 of them with travel watercolors. They are sturdy and the spiral binding allows them to lay flat or fold back. The paper is 140 lb. cold press paper so you can paint on both sides of the page. They are big enough to give plenty of space to draw and paint, but small enough to fit into a pocket on my backpack.TimTim Goss Watercolors[...] 5Great for sketching in watercolor/mixed media For the price and for being cellulose based paper, this is nice! It is great for plein air sketching or any general watercolor sketching. Also works amazingly with gouache. Takes fountain, gel, and other pens nicely and has an agreeable tooth for pencil. See my example pages. I like it better than either Moleskine or Stillman & Bern watercolor books, which I have used extensively. It doesn't behave like 100% cotton paper but expecting it to do so is unrealistic. I use binder clips on the short side to keep pages from moving around or curling; works great. 5Very good paper I love the hard cover of this sketch book and the quality of the paper. Works amazing with my prisma color colored pencils. The paper erases easily and doesn t cause an outline on the other page. 5Good quality sketchbook Good quality sketchbook, bought as a gift for my boyfriend's sister who gets a new sketchbook/journal every holiday. This one has a sturdy cover and the (acid-free) paper feels strong and heavy-duty and has a nice tooth to it, meaning that it has a bit of a texture that helps for drawing and picking up different types of line work. It's a nice touch that the paper comes from sustainable forests. The pages lie almost flat, and the binding is strong. I am satisfied with the purchase and am sure she will be happy with the gift. 5Great book, strange arrival. Here are the pros and cons of this book:Pros--Good quality paper.-Nice binding.-Good for the price.-Overall my best choice in an art book.-Arrived three days early.Cons--Arrived with a weird liquid substance on the lower end of cover? It was easy to wash off with a tissue but still wasn't pleasing.-Cover is slightly torn on the bottom, arrived that way.-Also had some dented in pages?-Overall felt used or not handled with proper care.Nevertheless, I recommend this book as it's perfect for any artist, but expect something off about your purchase. 4Great sketchbook! I really love this sketchbook. It feels sturdy, the faux-leather is a really nice touch, and the embossed back cover helps me keep track of the book's orientation. I haven't had any trouble with my markers bleeding through to the next page, though sometimes you can see it on the back of the page if youre particularly heavy with the pens. Pages erase easily with my pencils and they look and feel really nice. The binding feels ssturdy and has taken no damage, even though I'm pretty rough with my books and they spend lots of time being bounced around in a drawer and my purse or forgetting them on the floor. The size is really nice too, I don't like those letter-sized books because they don't fit really well in my purse and just take up so much space. 5
