Customer Reviews

Highly recommend this pen!!!I'm so in love with this brush pen! I like everything about it the darkness of the ink, the bristles, the way you can change the width of your line is effortless! This is gonna be my go to pen from now on. I made a free scribbles and lines in a practice page then when right into this demon sketch. No pencil no guidelines and it was so much fun to use. And my very first sketch with it turned out great. I highly recommend this brush pen. I saw Kim Jung Gi using one and had to give it a try. I'm so glad i did so just give it a shot. I'm sure you'll love it just as much as I do. When this pen runs out of ink I'll be switching to three pentel pocket brush bc it can be refilled. I don't think I'll be going back to fineliners or fountain pens for a good lil while if ever.5careful of leaky pain ink flow very fastThis must be the exception to the rule for Pentel this penin particular I have had an issue with I sent the first back you to leaking At the area of the pen tightening. The return get it as well The first one got on my white carpet it had then why I was not home Got on my cat LOL White carpet by the way white catI don't feel that my needs were met well enough by Amazon when I called the second time I think I tried three times and I sent him a picture to the spice because the pain is so can ink I'm not going to go through and package it up and take it somewhere to ail it That's waiting g of how long to get a new one one ofThe main reasons I want no longer be shopping at Amazon they charge my card unauthorized the first time Causing stuff to bounce Not bounce but not have enough cash to cover payments So I'll just lay on them late fees to the first pen I basically paid Amazon to buy it they sent me replacement it did the same but the same day I got the replacement they charge my card again for the same thing a charge of the first time for a new manager assured me that it would not happen again Thus the same issue happening Has stuff that was to be paid couldn't pay it had to pay late fees this time I paid Amazon again to buy the pen Then on top of that then wanted me to send it back cuz it was defective They don't want to see you send the first one back2Favorite Water Brush YetI am a self proclaimed water brush snob. I must have at least 25 of them around here somewhere! This is the best water brush I have purchased. The barrel is comfortable and makes for easy gripping. It stands out in my pen holder because of the blue cap. Don't worry about purchasing this, I think you will love it as much as I do.5TO REMOVE THE RED RING UNTWIST THE 'OTHER' WAY!!!IF YOU HAVE JUST BOUGHT THIS PEN FOR THE FIRST TIME READ THIS!!TO UNSCREW the body of the pen from the brush by TWISTING CLOCKWISE (to the RIGHT) !! This is the OPPOSITE of the way 99% of all things in the world tighten and untighten. It took me two hours to discover this at which point I had nearly destroyed the pen trying to "Untighten" it. I finally used a pair of wire cutters to just cut the red ring off. Then I soaked the pen in hot water to "loosen" it up. Finally found a Youtube video of a review and the reviewer casually mentioned "oh, it unscrews the other way". This pen almost drove me mad.The review: After some use (I do line drawings, sketches, gesture drawing, foliage, people) I really like this pen for what it is. Good pen for the price and will be buying again. The barrel of the pen is the ink resevoir and it a very light, thin, and plyable plastic. It doesn't feel very sturdy in the hand but very 'squishy', this is necessary because you squeeze the barrel to advance more ink to the tip. But the pen doesn't have much 'hand feel' if you know what I mean. The tip: Able to lay down extremely fine lines as well as broad strokes and thicks and thins depending on angle of pen and how much pressure you apply. Very hard (almost impossible) to get a perfectly even, straight line with this pen because the brush can slide around under your hand. Very different feel that a traditional pen like a Pigma Micron. But this pen is excellent for quick sketches, gesture drawing, landscapes, etc. which is what I'm using it for. You can also do extremely fine work if you slow down and use care. One of the things I'm really enjoying about this pen is that it is both a very fast (good for big movements and sketching) as well as slow (small movements, finely detailed, crisp lines). The ink: Love this ink. Very black, opaque, doesn't feather, does bleed a little bit, and matte. As others have noted, to get a nice opaque line you really have to slow down, make sure the brush is loaded with ink by squeezing the resevoir, and take your time to get what you want. That's okay! This ink is absolutely not waterproof and takes several minutes to fully dry. So for watercolorists or anyone who wants to apply a wash over a drawing know that you will get lots of bleeding from the initial lines and it will muddy up your drawing. Although, because the ink isn't waterproof, it's easy to smudge the ink for shadows and to create depth. That's okay too! Just be aware of it and use this pens properties to your advantage.I would highly recommend this pen to anyone who likes pens, who like using pens, who likes drawing and making marks on paper with pens, who likes playing with ink, but remember, UNSCREW THE OPPOSITE WAY.4Affordable PerfectionLove these pens. Have several diffirent kinds of brushnpens, Pentel, Kaimei, Kuretake and the Pentel Arts Pens are the true value beasts. You CAN refill any of these specific pens. Simply remove brush end, pop out the little end piece (has a long straw like piece attached) rinse it out (and the brush tip!) refill with whatever ink you choose ( I use Golden s High Flow Acrylic Carbon Black). Make sure to put the regulator straw thing back in, it snaps in, replace brush and proceed as usual. The Extra Fine tip rivals the best Kaimei weasel pen and the Platinum CF 5000, for way less $$.5No English instructions, but phenomenal pen.First things first - this item has no English instructions. You will most likely have to look online for instructions, so maybe print them out and include them if you're getting this as a gift. To get it to work, you need to unscrew the tip, remove the red band, and screw the tip back on. Then just squeeze the pen while holding it tip-down. Let the ink fill the brush; you don't need to squeeze all the way until it's full. If you do, you'll just waste a bit of ink to be honest. The instructions are easy, of course, but I know I hesitated to remove the red part thinking it was required for the pen to work. The first few strokes are kind of watery but after that, the pen is perfect. It's a steal for the price and I prefer it to the actual sumi-e ink and brushes for non-serious projects. I'll update this (if I remember to) once I see how it lasts me through this year's Inktober.4Difficult, but don't give up!This pen is difficult to use if you've never used it before, but don't give up trying. I started out using felt tip cheap brush pens, the kind that the tip splits after 3 uses. I decided to try one of these out after seeing Jake Parker use one. I'm now on my 3rd pen.The first thing you'll notice is the package is not in English, you need to remove the red ring and screw the body of the pen together with the tip in order to get the ink flowing. Once that is done you need to squeeze the body to help encourage the ink to flow to the tip which turns black once the ink reaches it.The most difficult thing about this pen is learning to control the pressure of the tip on the paper, while managing your ink flow. You will occasionally need to squeeze the body to get ink back into the tip, squeeze to much and it will drip or puddle once your pen hits paper. Not enough ink and your drawing will look gray and lines broken.Keep practicing till you find what works for you. I've ruined tons of drawings learning to use this, but that's ok. Also it takes a while to dry so watch hand placment, as you can smear your drawing. There is not much difference between this and pentel's brush pen. I prefer this one to pentel.5An ok brush pen but...I got this because I was looking for a pen similar to the pentel pocket brush pen, but thinner for finer details. Like the pocket pen t's a nylon brush tip, making it sort of like a paintbrush rather than the felt tipped brush pens you find elsewhere. The ink is located in the black barrel which is blocked off by a red band between the barrel and brush that needs to be removed, after which the ink will flow freely to the brush tip. This pen can make a finer line than the pocket brush, but not a significantly thinner one. The ink flow isn't as good either, often making for very scratchy or fuzzy line work unless I draw very slowly. This can make for some interesting effects, but for the crisper, cleaner linework it doesn't work very well. I have tried squeezing the barrel of the pen where the ink is to increase the flow, but I think I ended up breaking part of the pen around the brush and white it still works alright it now leeks ink that gets on my hand. I don't mind the mess so much as the waste of ink. They do not sell refills for this pen like they do for other brush pens. I imagine that you could refill the barrel with your own ink when it runs out if you can manage to get it open again. Altogether I prefer the pocket brush pen because of it's better ink flow and because you can buy ink refills for it. The fude brush isn't a terrible brush pen but it's not the best either.2It's great for drawing witches!!!This was a good pen to experiment with. I like pocket-brush pens because of the convenience. This one feels good in your hand and while you are drawing as well. It doesn't expel a lot of ink like the re-fillable pocket brush pen that Pentel makes* (*the one that looks more like fountain pen).It has a firm tip and nice springiness to it when you are varying line-weights.Also great for drawing witches.5Excellent. for everyone pro Illustrators, Comic, Manga, Artist or studentsBeyond excellent. This is the brush you've waited for, so why not 5-stars? Well, mine hasn't run out of ink yet. I know that sounds weird but if your trying to make a living with your brush skills, you need to know when this thing is going to die.The handle is all black, there are no visual indicators of the current ink level. Additionally you will have to squeeze that handle/ink resivore quite firmly to get the ink flowing( after open box and after periods of non use). You will need to learn to get just the smallest drop or "rings" of ink into the clear screw head just before the actual brush hairs.Remember liquid plus gravity equals waterfall, or in this case inkfall. If you push to much you will see an actual drop of ink on the brush hairs. Then you will have to wait, draw laps around your test page, until you can get a fine line that doesn't bleed. Also, I have no idea what will happen with air travel. I would suggest to keep pens with you on the plane in plastic bag. Checked luggage rides unpressurized, leading to black ink all over your stuff. However, I have not tested this. The blue tip, fine brush will do everything you need for illustration , fine lines and bold strokes. The green and black tip (standard/large) seem to big unless you are doing eastern style caligraphy or anything large for example full page kangi strokes. Sorry if I spelled that wrong.Final review, buy 2. Possibly 3, your controll of the bristles is awesome especially for fine work. You can spiral inside of a penny. Extended use you will need to squeeze handle, and wait until the standing ink level is back to "fine" quality but that is only minutes. Unless you want a dry-brush look. Waterproof ability decent, heavy brush work /watercolor may lead to black smears. Ink will beed up on Wax pencils prismacolors, ok with col-erase. Most importantly no more ink wells.Comparable product made by Beinfeng but only sold in multi-color pack. Better fine linework with Pentel, you can spiral inside of a penny without to much brush flip found in Bienfeng.4
