Customer Reviews

I Love It!(I purchased this for my son and the following is his review)I Love it!I have Plants vs. Zombies for the computer and loved it so much I decided to get it for the DS. It's the exact same game but for on the go which is really nice for long travels. I will describe what I think of it in a few different sections.Graphics - I don't need the very best in graphics to enjoy a game, so they were not a problem for me. In fact I think the graphics are actually pretty good for a transition from the PC to the DS. And it looks much better in person as compared to videos of it on the internet. So if you aren't someone who has to have top notch graphics it won't be a problem.Game Play - It is the classic PvZ game play. Defend your house from zombies with plants. Fun and simple. The only complaint I have for this section is that when you have a rather full garden with a huge wave of zombies it lags noticeably. This isn't a problem really unless you want to play Survival endless. Otherwise it's fine.Sound - The soundtrack is the same tunes as the PC version but with a retro vibe. I loved it just the same though. If you don't like it just turn the volume off; not really a problem there.Miscellaneous - Sometimes it's hard to notice the silver coins that zombies drop. Not really the end of the world, but somewhat of a nuisance if you need cash in the game. Also the location of the shovel tool is a problem if you accidently hit it and dig up the plant right above it. Once again this isn't a deal breaker. The final boss is much more difficult on the DS version as compared to the computer (in my opinion of course) but it wasn't impossible, so it was nice challenge. In the end I definitely recommend this game for new people to the franchise and veteran players who want to take it on the go. The inclusion of new minigames, vs. mode, and achievements also gives the player more to do and some challenges.4Addictive! Weird, Repetetive, but FUN!My son started playing this and I couldn't get him away from his DS, then I downloaded a version for my Droid phone and started playing. Wow. It's hard to walk away from it!Who would think that there was so much satisfaction in annihilating zombies who walk slowly towards your house. Every level reached gives you another item in your armory to battle the zombies. But every new level adds another zombie type that has a better way of getting through your defenses.Once you've completed all the levels, there are tons of things to do to keep the game going. You can play through again with a slight twist on each level, making it harder to complete. Then there are quick plays and accomplishments that require you to play levels with great restrictions. The value is great since there is so much to do after 'beating' the game the first time. The graphics are funny and the game can be really challenging at times.Multiple players can have saved games and you can resume levels after pausing.A ton of unexpected and addictive fun!5Great game but not a great portI highly recommend getting this awesome game, but I do not recommend buying the DS version. I have owned the PC version, iPad and iPhone versions and ALL of them are superior to this version. This version has many small bugs and issues from the port (transfer of the game into DS format) and unfortunately they are a deal-breaker for me. You can't save most things, for one thing, which you can easily do on all other formats of the game like PC or iPhone. Lots of things are covering up other things because they did not make the best use of the dual screens of the DS. They basically just ported the game to one of the DS screens and they use the other screen for meaningless and distracting vignettes which play just above the main screen while you are trying to play down below. In addition, when things really get going on the lawn the action slows down to a standstill (1 frame per second rate, not kidding). The processor of the 3DS (assuming it would be the same or worse on the DS) can simply not keep up with the graphics intensive action. I don't have this problem on the iPad or PC. The bottom line is this: this is one of the best games I have ever played. Just don't play it on the DS unless you have no other alternatives.3Great game but DS version has defects. This port of this fantastic game has issues with the vasebreaker mini-game where you can't see some items because other items overlap and block their images. The endless survival mode crashes the game completely when too many things are occurring at once. This occurs 100% of the time when running 6-8 corncob cannons at once. If you play this game to death, eventually the only challenge is endless survival mode and setting new records at vasebreaker and I, Zombie puzzles, so these bugs are problematic. You can still complete the regular game which is an absolute blast. The PC version of this game is a 5-star must-play game. The DS version does have two new mini-games using the touch screen.4My Kids Love ItAs a mom, I look for games that keep my kids happy and satisfied, with as little violence and gore as I can get away with.My 8 and 10 year old sons love this game. Just enough gross stuff to keep them feeling like they are getting away with trouble, but nothing really bad that I have to be concerned about. Pretty innocuous. But, the fun thing here is that this is a great game. My kids love it. They play for hours. And hours, And hours. Handy for long car rides or a shopping trip to Costco.I will let kid reviewers tell you about the mechanics of the game and how well made it is - but my primary concern is that this is good clean fun for kids that they really do enjoy.5Total funI am writing this review on behalf of my 9 year old son and 43 year old husband. They love it. They can't put it down. The only bad news is that it only has 2 game save slots so my other son is ticked he can't play and save a game too. My 9 yr old son has a lot of other games and since he got this about a month ago it hasn't left the DS. My husband sneaks into his room at night and takes it to play and then sneaks back in to plug it into the charger. I don't get it, I look at them playing and have no idea why it is so great but yet they both tell me it is awesome...apparently there is strategy involved. Then I meet a kid at gymnastics who has about 15 games and what does he say to me when I mention the abundance of games "yeah I do have alot, but let me show you my favorite." He pulls out Plants vs. Zombies. So if you are thinking of getting this for your kid or your husband I am guessing it will be hit even though I don't understand it at all.5Tons of fun!My son saw me playing this game on my PC, then later on my iPod Touch, and finally talked me into getting it for him when he found out it was on Nintendo DS. This version has a couple of fun play modes that aren't in the other versions I have. What he enjoys most is playing against his brother or friends in DS download mode, so one of them is plants and the other is zombies. For those of you who have never seen the game, there isn't any blood or actual gross-out eating of body parts, primarily because it's Plants vs., not people vs. But it's cartoony and about as tame as you can make zombies get. I wouldn't recommend it for any kid under 6, both because of the subjects being zombies, but also because it takes a little more advanced thinking to get through the game. Most kids 6 and up who play lots of games should be able to figure it out just fine, and kids 8 and up should be able to master it. Overall great game, regardless of platform you buy it for.5Very AddictingFirst off I must say I never played any of the other versions before this one. When I got in the mail from Amazon I started playing it almost right away, thank goodness I got it on a Friday night so I didn't have work the next day because it's really addicting.I played through adventure mode and that was very fun. It unlocked a bunch of stuff like the zen garden and puzzle mode and mini games. Everything is really fun. I'm playing through my second run of the adventure mode, it's pretty hard because the take up 3 slots with pre-chosen plants and they aren't usually that helpful but it's fun, I'm almost done with that.In adventure mode there are 5 levels, front yard (day time), back yard (day time), front yard (night time), back yard (night time - hard! There is fog), and the roof. Each of these levels have 10 sub levels and on sub level 5 and 10 are special mini games that make up those levels from what you are normally use to.I actually like this game so much I got it on the my ipod touch, it's very similar but a little different, still lots of fun though. ^_^I would recommend this game to any one that likes time management and tower defense type games. It reminds me a lot of diner dash cross between ninja town.5LOVE, LOVE, LOVE!!!!!In case u didn't notice by the heading....I LOVE THIS GAME!!!! I'm a 62 yr old Grandma & obsessed w/ this game. :-) It's so addictive & so much fun. Very challenging, which just keeps ya coming back for more!! Amusing to hear the Zombies creepy voices saying...braaaains....I'mmmm comingggg....LOL! Every time u think u have it fiqured out & it's going to be smooth sailing, something else pops up to get thru ur defenses to eat ur brains!! I can't imagine ever getting tired of playing this game. It's a blast!!! It's one of the few games where I actually find myself out of breath after successfully navigating thru a level. I highly recommend this game to anyone that likes a bit of a challenge!!!5They love it!I purchased this game as a birthday gift for my 6 year old nephew - it was on his wishlist. He loves it, but hasn't had much of a chance to play the game yet because his 4 year old brother has been loving it! Zombies are attacking, and the only way to stop them is with an arsenal of plants! As the zombies approach, the objective is to position various plants that counter-attack the zombies. From what I have observed, the game is entertaining and encourages quick, critical thinking. The different plants have specific powers, so in order to defeat the zombies and advance to sequential levels, you have to strategically place the plants in the right spots at the right time. My nephew would call me over to watch him play as he achieved milestones, advanced levels, and defeated the ZZZZOOMMMBIESS!5
