Customer Reviews

not your father's VelcroThis is amazing stuff for musicians, but this is not Velcro. In some ways it is better, in some ways it is worse. But for certain application can be the only solution. The Good - This stuff holds and holds well. If being used to hold something on it's side or upside down (or something that gets some impact) the hold is far better than any other Velcro like product. There is simply no comparison. In addition, this is perfect for items that do not have to be un-Velcroed often. If you want two pedals to stick together and this is how you play live and don't need to modify it much, this is the stuff for you.The Bad - If you need to separate the items often, then look at another product. The hold is so good that you are much more likely to rip the adhesive or rip the bottom of the item before the hold of the powergrip gives way. I normally have to superglue this stuff to items in order to get it to stick well enough. The superglue is of course stronger than the powergrip. I know for many people it is sacrilege to superglue the powergrip to pedals or other gear, but it only adds versatility and does not affect performance. Unless the item is a vintage item or very expensive, I go with the superglue and this powergrip works well. Otherwise, the adhesion of the tape works well, but don't expect it to last through too many removals since the powergrip is so strong.5Might not be for everyone - doesn't act like Velcro - but here's how I made it workThe grip is stronger than the adhesive that holds it down. Here's how I made it work. I have a flat pedalboard surface. I laid down 3 long horizontal strips of Power Grip on the flat surface a few inches apart. Then I made the mistake of putting large pieces of the strip on the bottom of my pedals. The grip is so tight that when I pried a pedal up off those long strips, the squares I put on the pedals stayed stuck to the board. Here's the solution: I kept the long strips on the flat surface of the board (I can't remove them anyway so what else can I do?) Then I cleaned off the bottom of my pedals and cut up TINY pieces of the Power Grip - about 3 hooks wide and 4 hooks long - tiny rectangles - and arranged about 6 per pedal around the boarder of the bottom of each pedal. Now the pedals come off without too much effort but the grip is still strong enough to keep them on the board. They click into place. Basically the pedals have tiny piece of Power Grip and the board has really big long strips of Power Grip. I can easily reconfigure my board. Also I used a hair dryer to heat the Power Grip pieces after I put them on the pieces on the bottom of my pedals. The instructions say this helps set the adhesive. Maybe that helped too. But I no longer have any problems with it and i'm sure it'll last for years.4THIS ISN'T VELCROIt's ain't velcro but it's exactly what I wanted. This is not for you if you:move pedals a lotchange pedals all the timeneed velcroThis is for you if you have a pedalboard layout that's reasonably stable and don't mind replacing the "velcro" pieces on the bottom of your pedals when/if you move them. As many people have stated, the adhesive will give way long before the "velcro" bond does. Not as messy as double sided tape. Almost as strong as bolting the pedals right to the board.I use half-inch strips on the bottom of my pedals and just laid strips of this down the length of the pedalboard, gives me a lot of flexibility as to how I lay out my pedals. If I used bigger pieces I'd need a screwdriver to pry the pedals off, no joke.Love this stuff and it has other applications besides guitar pedals. Using it to mount a sheet of steel to my truck shell, for use as an antenna base. Almost as good as welding it on, freeway speeds and it does not move.5Does Not Adhere to Plastic Well Enough To WorkThough I really like the "fuzzless"design, it is overkill for small electronics..I tried to use this on a small device, that I wanted to be able to mount on different devices that it pairs with.. The strips stick to each other VERY well, but the adhesive backing did not stick to the plastic devices well enough. In another similar application, the strips did bond to the devices I wanted mount to eachother, but upon trying to seperate them I almost broke one of the devices itself.I'm sure this stuff has many applications it does very well with, but small electronic devices does not seem to be a good fit, a bit overkill. Whish is a shame, as I really like the "fuzzless" design.3Tears itself apart. Who needs to lift their whole pedalboard by one pedal? That's just silly.I bought 4 to use for my pedal board that I just made. Upon opening the first one, it was not one continuous piece. It was cut towards one end and as I unrolled it, a shower of the black mushroom nubs came falling out (see picture). Hmm...maybe just a bad roll. I opened the second one. This one was one continuous piece, and only a few nubs fell out. Ok, lets test it out. I attached it to itself and pressed it together. Nice grip. Then I pulled it apart, and several bunches of nubs came tearing out as well. If I'm going to attach something to my pedal board that will bond permanently, I don't want something that will tear itself apart and leave bald patches every time I move a pedal. I'm sure it would work fine, if you don't move things around, but just the idea that I can't do it do often doesn't sit well. Oh well, expensive lesson learned. Get the 3M instead. I have used it in the past. Good stuff.2TornI am VERY divided on this product. A couple months ago I purchased this to hand a white board inside the door of my 100$ wood computer armoire. IT WORKED GREAT!!I had some left over.Today I went to use it to hang yet another item in the same armoire; right below the white board. IT DOES NOT WORK GREAT!!! The sticky is gone. It would not hold a similar in back item, of lesser weight, on this wood.I was able to easily pull off the velcro-like item from the wood and the back of my other item.I know this is marketed as Pedal Mounting something or another, but s*** this is like velcro and can be used in many applications. The difference between Velcro and this was this is supposed to be much more strong. I can attest to this with my whitebaord, but with today's applications. So, again, I am torn.3Better than velcro, but not the bestIt's far better than velcro...it bonds extremely well to most metal surfaces when allowed to cure properly (note: it has to cure 24 hours! If you test it as soon as it's been stuck on, don't complain about bad adhesive). It is resistant to heat, and it keeps the pedals bonded to the board more effectively than velcro. However, jarring can still knock them loose. The hold is not quite as strong as 3M's Dual Lock. But the biggest problem is longevity: if you plan on moving and rearranging your pedals as needs evolve, the little mushroom-shaped hooks will slowly start to get pulled out, significantly weakening the hold over time. This does not happen with the 3M stuff, which is a little cheaper per foot too. I would recommend this over velcro, but the 3M has a stronger hold, is cheaper, and lasts longer.3Stick 'em!Wow. Thus stuff makes "regular" Velcro seem like a lubricant! Just be sure you have all of your pedals and connectors set up and your pedalboard marked for exact placement before you slap the pedals onto the board, 'cause this stuff sticks as though your pedals were welded on! (In this regard the instructions that come with the Power-Grip are really good -- I measured twice, assembled twice, cut twice, and then placed my pedal line-up on my board, a Pedaltrain Nano, just once.) I'm not sure how I'll ever get anything off the board now, but in the meantime, my mind is absolutely free from worrying about pedals moving around during performance, coming loose in transit, etc.5Strongest mounting tape on earthI m blown away about how well this works. I have a large pedal board, about 24x36, and I used this to attach my pedals after trying traditional hook and loop. I can literally pick up the entire board pulling on a pedal. This stuff LOCKS into place for a hold that is unbelievable. The only downside to this product is the cost. It can be right pricy if you have a lot of pedals to attach. However, knowing that my pedals are secure, n matter what, is well worth the cost.5Use Sparingly! This stuff works. This stuff works really well! WARNING: Do not put a ton of it on your pedals! I made that mistake. All it takes it a piece about the size of your thumb and it'll stick. I made the mistake of putting way too much on and it was crazy difficult to get my pedals off the board, which I guess is a good thing. But use it sparingly. It's great if you have a long term board you want to use.4
