Customer Reviews

Very good sketchbook I use my sketchbook for everything from quick sketches to full pen and ink drawings. I usually use a 4B pencil or a fountain pen, but sometimes I color my drawings with Sharpie markers. This sketchbook can handle them all. The paper is thick enough that my pens don't bleed through, and I've never had problems with my fountain pen scratching the paper (a problem I HAVE had with other sketchbooks). The cover is solid and feels very nice, and the binding has stayed together even through my abuse. This is a great sketchbook which I highly recommend to anyone looking for a hardback that will last. 5Good for fountain pens! I bought this to test it's compatibility with fountain pens and ink. As far as I can tell, the paper works very well for that, and should also for watercolors. Hardly any feathering or bleedthrough with fountain pen ink. It's quite reasonably priced too, which is a nice bonus. It will fit inside many journal covers, and is recommended bo Oberon Designs for their beautiful covers. 4Poor Paper Quality I'm not thrilled with this sketchbook at all, mainly the paper quality. Every medium I've tried has appeared very speckled, like the white paper just keeps showing through. While I know it's a sketchbook, and not for final work, I still feel like the quality isn't good enough for me to want to show anyone. I just find that whether it's marker, pencil, or light washes of watercolor (which it handled fairly well) I just didn't like it.I would also like to add that it doesn't lay flat, not only does it not lay flat, but the cover likes to stay popped up off the desk. I will be searching for another sketchbook. 2This is a very nice sketch book This is a very nice sketch book. Only thing is, it seems too nice to use for casual sketching that might turn out badly, and then there you are with a bad sketch spoiling this nice book. It also would be better if the pages could lie flatter. But I do like it, and am glad I bought it. 4=) Great notebooks, heavier than i though they would be, great quality thick paper, i can even use watercolor or acyrlic on them without any worry. 5Good sketchbook, dimensions incorrect Other reviews cover the quality of the sketchbook for art. I use it as a journal. The thickness of the book is 5/8" which is a better size for traveling. The paper is very white and does not allow a fountain pen with Noodler's ink to bleed through. Paper surface is very smooth for writing but not so smooth that ink takes time to dry. I am pleased with it and plan to use watercolors to enhance my journaling. 5Excellent Hardcover Sketchbook A perfect sketchbook! Just what I need to store my artwork in. I will say the paper is about similar to regular printing paper but I would be careful on what you use to draw in it like sharpie and paint. I used my Micron inking pens on my first drawing and not a lot of bleeding through happened. I would suggest this to anyone looking for a decent size sketchbook. 5Convenient and Durable This sketch book is durable and portable. It is definitely not for people who like to draw big. I find it convenient to carry around in my bag for when I'm on the go, and feel the need to sketch something. I don't use marker on it, just pencil and color pencil. However I do feel like erasing the pencil from the paper is a bit of a hassle. See, it doesn't quite erase everything. I'm always able to erase just a portion of it, while some of the lines are left showing. I find that some people might find that a bit irritating. It doesn't matter that much to me since this is just a sketch book that I use on the go, not a sketchbook that I regularly use. 4Very sturdy hard cover sketch book Very sturdy hard cover sketch book. I like how the pages aren't too thin, essentially great for sketching not so sure about watercolors.. But I do like its size perfect for traveling :) 5Bound Black Sketchbook - Good for Pen Sketching I'm a design student, and I go through one of these sized sketchbooks roughly every four months. If I have the time, I like to run to the craft store to pick them out, to make sure that it:- Is Sewn Bound- Has a Smooth Surface (to take cheap ink)I've been bitten before with accidentally ordering more coarse, off white paper versions, but that's not nearly as bad as receiving a sketchbook with pages that fall out as soon as you turn them. The Pro Art Book I received was bound together, which was a big relief, as the book of my last four months was glued together and falling apart. This book does not lie flat, but does open very nicely. Now, as far as media, I tend to mostly use ballpoint pens in my sketchbooks, so I personally love a good smooth surface. I also use Sharpie Markers a fair amount, and while they don't mark the page underneath, they do bleed through to the other side of the paper. The surface will also take pencil of course, but when you close the book or use both sides of the paper, the graphite will smudge onto other sheets. If you are looking for a book to do heavy graphite sketches, I'd suggest something with a little more tooth.I don't advise using any type of chalk, pastel or wet media in these books. I've used light watercolors and Prisma/Copic markering to add shadows or highlights, however, a decent amount of water can cause pages to warp and wrinkle, and it's not easy to resmooth.I've attached a couple pictures, to demonstrate the size, paper quality, and binding. 5
