Customer Reviews

Warped SticksI bought these to replace my broken Sound Percussion 7AN sticks (not sure how they broke, I didn't get to see it happen and there are no volunteers for the culpability). These sticks felt awkward and cheap. I compared them to my old sticks and noticed a few things:1) These are much lighter2) The sticks are physically shorter and thinner - all around smaller.2) The sticks are are warped, one more than the other, which you can tell by laying them on the side and rolling them on something flat like a counter. They will serve well as a pair of sticks for novice guests playing Rock Band 3, but I need to get a pair of the Sound Percussion sticks as I don't want to mess around with trying to get by with cheap sticks from the internet that I've never tried.2Awesome sticks for jazzI used to use Vic Firth Extreme 5AN for my jazz gigs, but honestly, I love these sticks a lot more than those.. they have a really great length to them (longer than the Extreme 5A) and feel great in the hands.. amazing sticks5Pro-Mark has better sticks than theseYears ago I made the switch to Nova (the Vic Firth rebrand for visually blemished factory-rejected sticks). I used 5A for a while and eventually switched to 7A for the lighter weight and increased speed. Both were nylon tipped. These sticks were $2-4 per pair (the price has risen over the past 10 years), which makes them dirt cheap and great for a guy who tears through sticks. However recently I decided to compare stick life and feel to some more expensive counterparts to see if it made sense to switch. It was then that I order a couple pairs of these sticks (along with several others).Quick background: I've been playing for 13 years. I play everything from Jazz to Hard Rock, usually settling on something in the middle. I play in the studio, at home, at a large church (read "full dynamic range"), and in a band. The Good: These 7AN do feel better than the Nova 7AN; both are light and have the bright sound you'd expect from a Nylon 7A. The Nova's aren't perfectly balanced, but once you play for an hour or two, no stick pair remains perfectly balanced. The Bad: These broke as fast, if not faster than my cheap Novas. The sticks were barely chewed before the wood snapped at the tip. Definitely not worth it in my book. In the end, I think these 7As lasted about 1 - 1.5 hours per stick. Novas frequently got 2. I'll try to upload an image with this review. My Recommendation: Check out the Mike Portnoy signature sticks - a little heavier, way more durable, and still sound fairly bright. I'm getting 4-10 hours per stick on those, depending on play style and environment. Pro-Mark TX420N American Hickory Mike Portnoy Autograph Series Nylon Tip, Single Pair3If you plan on hitting your drums with sticks, don't buy these. These sticks used to be my go to for years, a few years back. I decided it was time to try them again after a few years and see if I can like them again. They were awesome back when they were my go to pair of sticks. Had a great feel, great length for reach, lasted for what felt like forever, and they produced a nice tone across the kit (and they still do.) BUT. Around 2015/2016 when I stopped using them was for the same reason I am writing this review now, one stick would either flat out break my first or second session of use, or the nylon tip would come right off mid session. 3 years later the same issues persist. Not even 10 minutes of use, I noticed some denting in my tom heads. Looked at the sticks and the nylon tip busted right off of one. There are barely any stick markings on these things yet. I have used Vic Firth and even some Vater sticks over the past few years and I never had any of the nylon tips bust off over the entire use of any of those pairs, as well as never any stick breaking issues within the first few sessions of use.So with all that said, sorry Pro Mark. I'll stick with Vic Firth who makes sticks to last longer than 10 minutes, and I hope fellow drummers read this and don't make the same mistake I did in reordering these after a few years.1Great sticks!!!!Has thickness of .5135 exactly on both sticks. Great rebound and value!!!!5Well Made Great FeelI bought this pair of sticks after reading a lot of reviews. Sticks are a very personal thing in regards to weight, width, shape wood-type, tip, etc. I really like this size and I have a preference for nylon tips as long as they are high quality. Nothing worse than tips that don't last! These are well made sticks and I really like the feel.5Great sticksI haven't played Pro Mark sticks in years. These are for sure game changers for me. As long as the price stays affordable, I will be buying these.4Got what I paid forGreat sticks to use if you like them slightly heavier than your typical Vic Firth s. I believe they re front weighted but I could be wrong so don t quote me on it I just know they play smoother since they have more weight than average. Try them out if you haven t5great for electronics or more finesse playingFunny when I was younger I used the much bigger and heavy 5b's but I got a Roland drum kit and it forced me to be more finesse oriented , the lighter 5A's do that very well...but then when I hop back on my acoustics I need the 5b's or I break the 5 a's left and right LOL5ExcellentMy favorite brand and model for sticks. I have been playing for over 10 years, studio time, practices, and lots of gigs. I play heavy metal and hit my drums very hard, lots of rim shots as well, and these sticks hold up very well. I have used 3 other big brands and have not been nearly as satisfied as with Promark. They feel great, keep me happy, and are reasonably priced.5
