    First CD is the bestThere are two CDs here that provide a full retrospective of Aretha's carrier. If that's what you want this is the one you want. Personally I only played the second CD once. The first one is fantastic. Can't stop playing it. Always amazing singing by the Queen of Soul but her backing band was much better in the early years.5Ain't Nothing Like The real thing!!!!Simply put, Aretha Franklin is the greatest female R&B singer of the modern pop era. The queen of soul has many cd compilations out there, but none compare to this career spanning two disc set, that encompasses her entire hit career from 1967 to 1997. This collection of 43 songs surpasses her 30 greatest hits collection due to the inclusion of such later day hits as "Who's zoomin Who', "Freeway Of Love', "Sisters Are doing It For Themselves[with Annie lennox]" to name a few. Everyone of her classic songs from the 60's and 70's are right here for you to enjoy. I can't think of a more bargain priced career retropspective that covers her entire career. "Respect, The very best Of Aretha Franklin", is truly a time capsule, that serves as the sound track to many of our lives who were around for those classic soul days of Atlantic Records, in which lady soul Miss Aretha Franklin started a musical legacy that remains unsurpassed in the annals of pop- music. I consider this an essential purchase in order to make any music library complete.5Great collection!This is a wonderful CD! Seeing as her birthday is on Christmas Eve, then had to think of something to give to her for Christmas. These cd's where perfect!! My mom always talks about the music she used to listen, but she doesn't even have a cassettee tape or even a vinyl record of any of the music she listened to from her childhood through her adulthood. Giving her these cd's was the best idea every. She actually cried!!!! My mom told me listening to these songs, she could remeber who she was with, where she was, and what she was wearing, when she heards the songs that Aretha sang.The price was great, considering you got two cd's. And they deliveried the day before her birthday.So, if your looking for a gift to give someone, who always talks about the music they used to listen to, but they don't have any of it, and they love Aretha Franklin. This is the perfect gift.5First Female Artist Inducted in Rock and Roll Hall of FameUpdate:Thankfully, Aretha Franklin has graced us for many years, and performed with possibly more Associated Acts during what everyone agrees is an illustrious career!Double CD certainly provides an overview of her discography. But, collection's fidelity is across the spectrum, sometimes even with a song. Some tracks sound like they're copies of a cassette tape, others, dynamics and timbre rocks. Uneven mastering, eventually can be irritating.2The Queen of Soul gets some "respect" on this excellent career-spanning compilationAretha Franklin is, unquestionably, one of the defining voices of modern music. God sure gave her a powerful instrument to use, for when she opens her mouth to sing, people listen. She's an undeniable force, with a vocal range, projection & emotional depth that few can match.Like many artists, her work has been packaged & RE-packaged. But this two-CD set truly is "the very best". From the beginning---after a frustrating six years of trying to find her niche--when she hit it big with the sassy iconic "Respect", the soulful ballad "You Make Me Feel Like a Natural Woman", the can't-sit-still songs "Chain of Fools" & "Rock Steady", all the way to her mid-80's comebacks on songs like the infectious pop-soul hit "Freeway of Love" and triumphantly teaming with Eurythmics on "Sisters are Doing it for Themselves", and to the present. During all this, she had some wonderful duets with George Benson, pop superstar Elton John and pop heartthrob George Michael, as well as displaying her gospel roots in several lesser known but significant songs. Bring back some fond memories, make new ones, listen, dance to, and enjoy both her golden oldies, and newer songs. Fortunately for us Aretha was, and still is living in our time, yet another thing to be really grateful about.
