    Did not support the weight of a NTG3 with Blimp The product did not fully tighten at the top and rolled on itself when a Rode NTG 3 with a blimp was attached to it. Also a standard xlr cable does not fit through the boom pole. Company decided to attach a studio broadcast mic that weighs nothing to it, to tell me it works. haha Really pathetic, nowhere close to the same weight and then had the audacity to charge a restocking fee. Buyer beware their outside amazon website states hassle free returns... NO WHERE CLOSE! 1Read ALL Critical Reviews - This item really is cheaply builtMake sure to read other critical reviews. This item is extremely cheaply built.1: You are supposed to turn each extension to lock it into place. However, this does not function well. It just keeps turning, and there is no real way for you to "tighten" it enough so it will not rattle around.2: Each section tends to rattle around because of the issue mentioned above. This causes the noise to travel through the mic.3: There are plastic rings at the end of each section. These are a major weak point and if you look at other reviews, these points have broken quite easily.The bottom line:This item with the RODE name on it is cheaply built, and will not stand up to the real world. Do not believe the overwhelming positive reviews. Stay away from this item and get something else.2Poor Quality, pass this one up.This is a really poor example of a boom pole. Quality was overall poor, found the loosening knobs to be jammed and very tough to loosen. The threads were right and bound in short order locking up the tubes. I would expect this out of a cheaper pole but a Rode at a premium price was very disappointed. Pass this one up, you can do a lot better at half the price.1Excellent for "run n' gun" portable audio recording.Excellent boom pole especially if you have purchased the new VideoMic Me line from Rode. You can put the boom mic at the end and because of it's compact size (the pole and the mic) you can get into places you normally would have to have larger stuff that could clutter up what you are doing. I used this to record multiple times at Apple when I needed not only good audio but couldn't bring in a whole range of larger stuff to do my audio recordings. I used this along with the Rode SC1 TRRS extension cable because you need this for any type of iOS or Android device so you can record to them using an App.5Canon T2i + Rode Videomic Pro (w/ extension cord) + Rode Boompole This is a pretty good boompole for the price. I saw the other ones Rode had and they were more than double the price of this one. I've tested this boompole out to see if it makes any noises during operation and it doesn't as long as you at least attempt to keep it steady but even after a while of using it, your arms start to get tired but the Rode Videomic Pro does not pick up any noises from the boompole's movements. Fully extended it is a good enough distance, however I may need a longer cord because I was originally planning to use it connected to my preamp directly connected to my camera so that I wouldn't have to match up the sounds in post.The only reason why I gave this 4 stars instead of 5 stars is because the build quality is exactly what I assumed it would feel like at this price range ($49.00), however I am on a budget so its also just what I needed to get the job done. It does feel flimsy but at the same time, very lightweight to carry around. Also, don't forget to wrap the extension cord around the pole. I'm actually planning on adding something to hold the cord in place to prevent noises from it clanging against the pole. The Twist and Lock mechanism works fine but I can see why other people are concerned about it not lasting that long. Honestly, just take care of your equipment and that will make it last longer! 4Replaced, but new one still doesn't lock down securely; product defectRODE was great in replacing my first one, but the quality of these are very poor (get what you pay for, I know).The life expectancy for having the full extension stay put without hassle is about 10 uses. After that, one of the segments will not "lock" properly.1Rode Boompole Microphone Boom ArmProduct came as described, it's very lightweight even extended to the full 10 feet with a shotgun mic attached. The shipping started out a little slow because it wasn't shipped right away , but it arrived the first day of the estimated arrival date, so no complaints.UPDATE: After having this boom pole for a few years (2 I think) The gold connector that connects the shock mount to the boom pole has stripped, rendering it useless. I have contacted Rode because I cannot find another connector anywhere online so I am going to see if I can at least purchase just that part instead of another boom pole. I will update after I have the answer.UPDATE II: I was able to get in touch with RODE and I must say they are one of the BEST companies I have ever had the pleasure of dealing with. I asked them about purchasing the connector and they asked for my address and sent a new one for FREE. No shipping, no charge at all. They said 7-10 business days and I had my replacement part in about 4 or 5 which REALLY impressed me. If nothing else get this boom pole just for the excellent quality, affordable price and UNBEATABLE customer service. I will now by a RODE customer for life!!!5Does the jobPerfect compliment to the gear arsenal - Normally, everything is a 'DIY' item in my gear bag, but since I have been doing some more 'pro' video work, specifically interview style videos for my company, a painters pole is considered taboo as a substitute for a 'pro' looking boom. Not that I have a problem with, nor is there anything wrong with 'DIY' - but unfortunately if you want to be taken seriously (at least in my case) I had to bow to pressure from the corporate Gods and make my setup look more 'visually' appealing.The micro boom Pole works great (just as my DIY painter's extension pole did) but it also looks the part - Since the company was covering the tab, it would be easy for me to write it off as a great product since I didn't pay for it, but even if I had covered the cost, I would of kept it - Very lightweight and durable - Comfortable grips and no hang up's with the telescopic extensions - They lock/unlock extend/collapse with no problems and stay locked - Closes to a manageable size that's easy for storage and transport.Pros: Inexpensive yet durable, perfect for the one man crew - Easy to mount above/below talent on stand when minus a crew. Handles most Rode Shotgun mics (or any shotgun mic of similar weight) with no problems - Add a shock mount for greater control.Cons: A foot or two more in length would be great (but then it wouldn't be a 'micro' pole) - Ideal for close up's / interviews - Too short for run/gun, wide scenes unless you have a dedicated sound guy who knows how to work a boom and keep it out of frame - (I'd imagine that if you did have a sound guy, he would be using something of greater length anyway) - For the purchase price, it might be a hard sell to someone that can make a longer 'DIY' one for cheaper, but ideal if you're looking to weed out the improvised gear. On exteriors, it holds up to wind, but not all that great unless you have it rigged down good or are using an actual sound guy.Conclusion:A good buy for the amateur looking to invest in dedicated gear, as well as the pro for tight shots with a limited crew. You can add ties for your cable, or just tape or zip tie the mic cable if pressed for time - No XLR inputs or jacks built in, so plan on securing wire with the above quick solutions, or improvise/engineer your own.4Excellent OverallI have only used very few boom poles in my experience working with film/video. Of the few I have used, none were of the top o' the line models but this particular boom pole was the best one I have used. While the other ones transmitted "tapping" sounds from handling the pole, the Rode Micro had minimal sound transference. To list the positives, not in any order of preference...1. Very lightweight2. Easy to expand/collapse3. Compact (great for recording in tight spaces or for transporting on long hauls)4. Noise from handling is minimal during recording (handling any boom requires good technique to avoid ANY sound transference)5. PriceProbably the only thing negative I can think of with this pole (which is true for most poles) is that affixing the microphone wire along the pole can sometimes create unwanted tapping. Of course, this is where pole technique comes into play but more importantly, how you set up your rig. The more expensive poles have a feature where the XLR connection runs through the inside of pole however that feature worth the price you pay, I'm sure.If you already own a good supply of equipment or are operating simultaneous sound recordings, this is will make a great backup. But if you're like me, working on a very tight (and low) budget, this IS DEFINITELY WORTH the investment. I'm very happy with it5Doesn't lock like it's supposed toNot sure if I got a defective product, but this pole does not lock as it should. The third section (thinnest part) does not lock at all, no matter which way you turn it. This makes it all but worthless if you need it to lock into place for shooting.It works horizontally when not moving (like recording audio sitting at a desk), but I wouldn't trust this on an actual shoot.Very disappointing product from a supposedly reputable brand.1Agile Boom Pole with Good ValueI'm a starting professional, and this Boom Pole is perfect for the run-and-gun style of shooting I usually do. The boom is extremely easy (and quick!) to extend and the locking mechanisms seem sturdy. Although I expect a long life from this boom, Rode is a customer-friendly company and in my past experiences have always been gracious about sending replacements. I use this boom in combination with the VideoMic Pro and Rode's VC1 10' 3.5mm extension cable.For the price, this boom is a steal! It will get you 1000% better audio than in-camera mics and 250% better audio than on-camera shotguns. Perfect for interviews-on-the-fly. I can even shoot video with one hand and hold the boom with the other. Just don't do it for long.5I was surprisedIt has good construction and finish, better than I expected, and I was surprised to come in a package well protected, it is clear that the price indicates a boom pole of introduction, a step ahead of the amateur for not to use household items, ie for people who want to give your video or audio shots better production, I suppose also that its duration will depend on the care taken in handling and adjusting strength sections, which certainly does not need much force or torque to sustain the lengths, plus the fact I was surprised that will not flex with pistol grip and zeppelin heavy, as seen in the photos.Tiene buena construccion y acabado, mejor de lo que yo esperaba, y me sorprendio que vinieran en un empaque muy protegido; es claro que su precio indica que es una boom pole de introducci n, un paso adelante de lo amateur para no utilizar elementos caseros, es decir para personas que quieren darle a sus video o tomas de sonido una mejor producci n, supongo ademas que su duracion dependera del cuidado que se tenga en su manipulaci n y en la fuerza de ajuste en las secciones, que por cierto no necesita gran fuerza ni torque para sustentarlo en la longitud; me sorprendio adem s el hecho que no se flexara con un zepelin y pistol grip pesado, como se observa en las fotos4
