    My favorite Gelly Roll pens!I think these are my fav. Gelly Roll type pens. They re so awesome, on the pack it says it takes 10mins to dry. But when writing on paper such as my scribbles that matter journal, it dries to the touch pretty quickly, like maybe 2-3 mins. But only if you touch it. If you re closing the book, then I d suggest waiting the full 10 mins, cus sometimes it ll stick a lil to the opposite page. It won t ruin your writing or anything, but if you feel it it ll be a tad bit bumpy if you don t let it completely dry down b4 you close your book.Other than that, I freakin love these!!! I prefer them to my moonlight ones. Most likely because my moonlight set was obviously used. Still peeved about that!I attached a few photos, the photo of the pen test page, shows that they do ghost a lil but, especially the black pen. But I never really cared if my pen ghosts, as long as it doesn t bleed thru the page. And it doesn t, & I write pretty hard sometimes. 5Good Quality for Subtle 3D-Incomplete Without Yellow HueI bought this Sakura 38369 3D Pen Set for my preteen daughter who is into cartooning. She enjoys using these because she can tell that they give her drawings a subtle 3D quality (her friends even noticed the difference without her saying a word). However, we both feel that this set definitely needs a yellowish/golden tinted pen.Any art set needs to at least include some type of variation of the 3 basic colors-red, blue and yellow. Since these pens are more "earthy," a golden hue would be very appropriate-logically completing this set.In order to get the basic colors, I'd recommend the Sakura 38370 (which is currently cheaper, as of this writing). That's a little disappointing, since we weren't looking for such a bright palette.Instead, TWO white pens are included in the set. The white draws clear and are good for blending and adding additional gloss. However, the white color only emerges (clearly on colored paper) once the ink dries.These pens give a smoother, thicker line than the cheaper gel pens I also purchased. They come with a tiny plastic bit on the ball tip (beneath the regular cap to further prevent premature dry-out).If a yellowish pen was included instead of a duplicate white, this would be a 5-star review. 4Beautiful coloring pens for larger open areas to colorI really like the Gelly Roll glaze pens the best, of the Gelly Roll pens. They are quite liquidity, they give a pretty shine. I have used them to color flowers on cards, very pretty. I also appreciate that you can see any lines within the color. The moonlight ones by Gelly Roll obsure what is under the color. These are my favorite of the Gelly Roll pens. They also contain quite a bit of ink. These work the best if you have larger open areas to color. You don't want them for fine spaces! 5SO cool, not perfect but too cool to rate less than 5 stars!I love card making and these are definitely fun to add to my collection of craft supplies. When I used it for words (I used them in my Silhouette Cameo sketch pen holder) they came out beautiful but I had to be careful to pick fonts that were either sized larger or did not have too much overlap in the letter so it would not pool.Pros:1)adds a nice 3d and glossy effect to projects ..great for outlining or adding small dimension to a stamped image2) I'd say just as good as effect with embossing powder without dealing with the messy powder (and just as imperfect as the powders)Cons:1)Pens are not labeled with color names (still trying to figure of two white pens is one white and one clear and which is which) 2) the very tiny cover on the pen tip is very easy to lose. Maybe they should give you a couple of extra because I am sure in no time I will lose one of them. Though the directions don't say, apparently you need to recap with it or they will dry out.Note: these pens do not work on regular paper. For those who complained they did not see the 3D effect, I have to assume they didn't read the back of the packaging. It states it works on "plastic, COATED paper, glass and metal. It will just seep into regular copy/printer paper and while may have a little shine, will not have a 3d look.I hope they make a glitter version of these pens...because that could have some cool uses! 5Great pens! They come with sealed clear transparent glue ...Great pens! They come with sealed clear transparent glue so the gel doesn't leak out, so remove this before using the pens. Once it hits paper it's on like donkey kong so don't be slow about it unless you want the bubbled raised look which is a cool effect as well. I tried to use the white color for whiskers but it didn't work so well. They do write over colored pencils but the white one would have to be layered especially over black. Layering white over black looks like a milky white and the more you layer, the more air bubbles in the finished result so be careful layering. I have only tried wax pencils so far. The pen that works for whiskers would be my Sanford signo uniball gel pen. Another note, there are two white gel pens, 1 is white 1 is clear and you can't tell the two apart so I used the black gel pen to place a dot on the top of 1 of them to tell them apart since they aren't labeled. 5Great for accents and outlinesI just started using these for accents or outlines in adult coloring books, and I love them! I took away one star because the do flow quickly and take a while to get used to using. And you definitely want to wait at least 5 minutes for it to dry. I let it dry while I color in another book, so I don't get impatient. The first photo shows the black as outline. It's hard to see in the photo but it is shiny and raised. This was a calendar, and it did not bleed through. In the second photo I used a book that had thinner paper, and there was some bleed through. I love how the glitter on the stems and the glaze on the twirls interact. I used 2 coats of the green glaze, and I'm not quite pleased with the results; I need more practice! The blue, red, yellow and orange swirls are one coat of glaze. I just ordered another set with more colors! 4The Amazing Glaze!I bought the other (brighter) Glaze set a few months back and I absolutely love them. Unfortunately I pulled a stupid and left my cap off of the clear Glaze pen for a few weeks (I put my pens in a case), and I frowned when I went to use it and realized I had left the cap off of it. I couldn't find any open stock clear Glaze pens, and then I found these. I am a pen fanatic, I get excited when I get new pens, and since these had a WHITE Glaze pen AND a clear Glaze pen it was a no-brainer. I didn't have these colors. I have reviews on a few different writing utensils along with pictures of how they look from different angles on different kinds to paper, so I highly encourage you to view them. On the green colored pens, the one that looks darkest is actually the lighter green, and vice versa, so I highly recommend making a swatch; they don't come with the names of color on them either, so I made some up and labeled them (with a label maker, but you can always write it on a piece of paper and use clear tape to adhere it). It's a similar thing with the red and brown, they kind of look alike, but in good lighting you can make the distinction. They will take a bit to dry.I can't emphasize the love I have for the clear Glaze pen, it gives almost like an embossing effect, but without the powder mess that gets everywhere and a heat tool. 5Didn't Know What to ExpectI knew I was going to enjoy and get heavy use out of the clear Glaze pen, but was unsure about the opaque pens in the rest of the package. I really love the effects of embossing powder. Using embossing powder in bound art journals (I'm currently using the Ranger - Dyan Reaveley's Dylusions Creative Journal) is a pain. For me, embossing powder is akin to sand... it ends up everywhere.These Glaze pens give an embossing powder-esque result. No bumps or pits or heat gun. They give a raised, glazed effect, but not quite like embossing powder. These are GLAZE and not shiny. Is there such a thing as semi-matte shiny? I am not disappointed by my purchase, and plan on using them as often as I can.Overall, I am happy with them.Pro Tip: Porous surfaces, like regular cardstock for example, absorb most of the ink, so you will get a more 'true' effect using something non-porous-ish. I did test them out on Ranger Inks Inkssentials Specialty Stamping Paper ATC's and got a more favorable result.Pro Tip #2: If you have Sakura 58350 10-Piece Blister Card Souffle Assorted Color 3-Dimensional Opaque Ink Pen Set , layering the clear Glaze on top of the DRIED Souffle ink gives an interesting result. The Souffle colors are matte, and these add a little bit of glaze to them. 4Smooth ink! Beautiful 3-D effect!Beautiful and smooth! The color will not show up well on black paper but you can still see the shine and 3-D effect. They are gorgeous on white or light paper. 5Like Writing With Butter! Vibrant Colors! 5 Stars For Sakura!These are really meant to be "craft" pens. They're not meant to write checks or fill out forms with ...BUT THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT I USE THEM FOR! LOL Okay this is pretty much a petty thing.....but I'm really really particular about pens. It's lame, I know, but I can't help it. If they don't "feel" right when you run them across paper, it's like fingernails on a chalkboard to me.....I just can't write with it anymore...I love these pens so much I literally have a SHOE BOX FULL. It's like writing with butter! The pen just glides along the paper leaving a beautifully stained mark of its presence behind. The gel ink flows out onto your paper evenly, and it saturates whatever your using it for with vibrant color. They are really striking on dark paper, (black, brown, blue, etc.) but they are striking on white paper as well. As far as "tip" goes...I'm not a "fine tip" kind of gal. I want to feel the words coming onto the paper...not etch them on....so I go with the medium, but even "fine" is not too fine ;) They don't dry out easily either.You can leave the cap off for hours and still won't come back to a dried out tip. And they don't have those periods where all of the sudden the ink just stops flowing.I wish the ink lasted longer. I run mine down to empty faster than I'd like to. Speaking of colors, there are quite a lot, but my favorite "set" is the Moonlight set. The glittery pens are sparkly....they just naw at that psycho irritation thing I have for pens that scratch the surface of whatever you're writing...so the glitter ones aren't for me even though they go on just as smoothly and my aversion to them is completely in my head ;) They do have a "wet"/"smudge" factor to consider. It doesn't go on like a tattoo for example....so it takes a few seconds/minutes for your writing to become "literature". hee heeKids love them! They are far better than crayons to color with ..... and the ink is washable as far as I have seen. I'd imagine an entire pen full of purple gel ink on your favorite mini skirt is going to probably not come out, but the occasional mark here and there hasn't posed a problem for me thus far. Some ideas for use they are good for that you may not have considered:1. Color on ceramics instead of painting them! Your ceramics come out shinier than they would with acrylic paints.2. Wooden this and thats. You know, those wooden bird houses, etc. that you buy (pretty cheap) at like Michael's and you paint them and use them for silly artsy decoration in your house, or as a gift for your kid's teacher, or a last minute white elephant gift.....3. Coloring fabric with them is pretty fabulous too.4. Basically anything you apply color to with the exception of things that have already been glazed....the ink will not stick..period! So signing the back of your credit card with one (as I have foolishly tried..hee hee) ends up rubbing off immediately.That's just to name a few things. Like i said, they are craft pens by nature...but versatile in use. They're no Montblanc....but they're worth the $$$ you pay for them.Cheers 5
