Suberb Quality - Would Reccommend to All Users! I bought this hoping to get a quality microphone which both looks and sounds great. I am very happy to see (and hear) that I made the right choice, as the Meteor Mic definitely comes through in both departments. To top it all off, the seller seemed to immediately have shipped it after I ordered. I did so Thursday afternoon, and was shocked to find it delivered first thing Friday morning! Especially considering I'm ordering from Canada. This was a very pleasant surprise to have it deliver that fast. Can't say enough about how great that service was.With regards to the Meteor Mic's looks - it is class and style all the way. I'm really glad I went for the "brushed nickel" option (the box just calls it "silver"), as it looks like a Macbook. The metal feels very sturdy, and has a nice weight to it. Everything really gives the impression of high quality. The only thing that could be complained about is the volume knob feels like plastic, but it's looks just fine. The height of the fold-out tripod works well for me. If need be you could easily set it on a few books, if you need more height.I tried out the mic using Audacity to record. When I played back I was really happy with the results. It gave me that nice rich tone I was hoping for. Very glad I went and got this over the Snowball (as I watched a number of videos showing how quiet the Snowball is). The Meteor Mic sounds very loud and crisp. My computer fan is noticeable to me as I'm typing this, but in my recording I can't hear it at all. Which is shocking because the mic was basically less than 6 inches from the laptop. I'm sitting next to a window and can hear the wind blowing outside, and also didn't hear that in the playback at all.I was going to order a pop filter to go along with the mic, but I'm kind of glad I didn't bother. I was talking directly into the mic, very close to my mouth, and got no popping at all. Perhaps other may not have the same experience, but maybe just try without a filter first, as you could save a couple dollars.I would definitely rate this as a great option for recording your own voice, comparable to higher mid-range mics. I won't be using it for group scenarios, so I can't rate it there, but I wouldn't be surprised to see it does well. I have not used a Yeti, but to be honest, this is the quality level I would've expected from *that*. So I am very happy I got great quality for less. If I ever try a Yeti I'll likely hear a superior quality comparing to the Meteor, but for now I would definitely keep the Meteor. I absolutely recommend this mic to anyone looking for a really good product. I think the average user is going to find it's much more than they need. 5Really awesome desk mic. Great clarity with no hiss and easy setup even on my iPad (with a Lightning to USB Camera Adapter). The recording app I bought for my iPad is just ok, so I really prefer using the mic with my laptop and I use some great software called Mixpad Multitrack Recorder by NCH. They have a free for non-commercial use version if you look for the small link on this page... http://www.nch.com.au/mixpad/The mic itself is very nice quality aluminum and feels substantial in your hands. The matte black finish looks awesome. The recording quality is really super clear with no hiss. It is powered right from the USB port, so you only have one cord to deal with. It has a headphone out port so you can monitor what it is recording. The aluminum feet fold down and have little rubber spots on the bottom to isolate vibrations and to keep the mic from slipping around on your desk. There is also some mic stand threads on the bottom. There are some review videos that say it rivals the Zoom H4n recorder and after listening to the results, I believe it. It is much less expensive than the H4n, but you still need to lug a laptop or iPad as the capture device, so I may still end up getting a digital recorder because I need portability... but this is great for now. If you are recording mostly at your desk, then this Meteor Mic is perfect!! 5meteor shower I use this for my podcast and it is FANTASTIC! Space efficient and a great range. A word of warning, this mic picks up EVERY nuance so get a pop filter and foam mini studio OR record in a quiet room. I also use this for guitar and it sounds awesome. Sit about 3 to 4 feet back or further for acoustic, 6 feet away from amp if going electric. 5Great little usb mic :) After decades of messing with music recording/composition as a hobby, I decided to stop taking things so seriously and just have fun. I decided to sell all of my old "big, for me" gear and downsize my studio to newer, smaller and cheaper gear.I sold my studio monitors, my audio interface, my usb keyboard, and my Rode NT1a condensor mic, pop filter, reflection filter, and stand.I was worried that I would really regret my decision at this price point, but oddly I am very happy with this little usb mic!No more picking up sounds from 5 blocks away and needing to fix them in the mix LOL! This little guy picks up my voice and only my voice (at least compared to more expensive mics). And honestly with Toontrack EZMix I can make the recording sound amazing without much effort (or any other effects available nowadays).The little stand is solid, the fact that it is soooo small and just plugs in with a usb cord (no phantom power needed, etc) is wonderful, and it really is good enough for a hobby, podcasts, etc. The quality is surprisingly good!You quickly learn that through proximity effect the closer you get the bassier it gets. So you just keep your head the same distance from the mic and your golden, simple as pie and allows you to concentrate on more important things, like what you are saying or singing, and the fact that you can easily transport it with a macbook or ipad is awesome as well.They even give you a cool little case with it as well that I saw someone on a youtube video throw over the top of the mic and they used as a thick pop filter in a cool/quick way LOL. Seemed to work ok, I may have to try that :P. Although I believe the way they designed this thing, that unless you are practically eating the mic, the plosives are not really a problem at all.Such a well made little device, I'm totally happy with it. 5Better than my old Blue Yeti. Back story: I make YouTube videos and stream to Twitch using OBS and sometimes right from my PS4. The USB port became loose on my Blue Yeti and although it still worked, I had to plug it in just right or it would disconnect on my computer. So I decided to just buy a new mic instead of dealing with a broken port. I had intended on getting a new Blue Yeti but thought of getting a bit less expensive but still provides great mic quality and features.Let me start of by saying I love how small this mic is. I mean it's really small. My old Yeti was a bit cumbersome because it was big and I often had to clear space on my desk to set it up. This Samson mic is small and doesn't require nearly as much space. I think it would be great for a portable mic.I also appreciate the fact that it comes with a really long cable. Far too often do you get short cables with electronics which sucks.I'm using Windows 10 and the mic was instantly ready to use. No fuss. I also powered up my PS4 to see if it would work with it and it DOES.The quality of the mic is slightly better than my Blue Yeti. The Yeti produced a faint hum in my recordings is isn't present in the Samson. It's a bit more bass than the Yeti which is nice. My voice is more clear and pronounced. So for me, this mic is actually better than my old Yeti which I paid a little over a hundred dollars for.A physical mute switch is a must for me and it's nice and clicky on this mic. It also doesn't make a loud sound when you click it.The built in headphone jack is also a must for me so I can listen to what I'm saying. So I like that and the volume wheel.I'll miss the gain and polar options on my Blue Yeti, but I did not use them that much and I can control gain via software.So all in all, I am very happy with this mic and would highly recommend it if you're looking for something good and easy to use. 5High quality mic, but with a few issues I bought this microphone for playing LAN games with my friends and recording playthroughs. The microphone itself is very good for the price. I really like the quality and build of this item. The pictures make it look kind of cheap but it really is made out of quality material. The design is also very practical as it is easy to collapse the legs and store or carry. The legs protect the casing when in this configuration.To better organize my opinion of this product I will write a list of the good and the badPros:-Sound quality and sensitivity. Sound is picked up very well up front and also captures background voices pretty well without having to speak up.-Build quality and finish. This product feels very sturdy. The legs hold their position well without being too difficult to adjust.-Mute button is very handy which can be overlooked on a lot of other mics in this price range. The LED works well as an indicator if the mic is live or not. There is a drawback to this design which I will mention in the Cons section.-Storage case feels nice and does what its suppose to but is slightly too small to fit both the mic and 5ft USB cable comfortably.Cons:-The leg on the back has to be in the lowered position for the mic to be plugged in. Its not likely that many people will have a problem with the but if you use the threaded stand mount I can see it being annoying.-Placement of the headphone 3.5mm jack seems bad if you need to plug in the device while in use as it is directly above the USB input on the back of the unit.-The mute button picks up quite a bit of noise when pressed in use-There seems to be significant interference between the digital input and analog monitor. So there is a bit of noise in the headphones when in use. This may be an issue with the levels but I havent figured out how to make it stop yet.-And the most annoying thing to me personally is the volume control for the monitor. There is significant resistance in the knob from turning. So you almost always need 2 hands to adjust this. It also doesnt protrude enough in my opinion. As a person with very short nails I find it difficult to adjust the knob. It picks up so much noise from the fiddling involved that you cant realistically adjust this while recording.Even with the caveats of this product I would still recommend it. Although I think the price could be better I think this product is superior to its competition. 3Great mic for the price! I purchase this microphone for two reasons: 1.) I make videos for work that require voice-over narration and 2.) I started vlogging and needed a mic to add voice-over to my videos. But, I've actually found it to be quite useful for more than just those purposes. I also use it for online meetings, audio/video chats, teaching online classes, etc. I'm so much happier with it over the built-in mic in my laptop.Firstly, let's discuss looks. This mic has a really neat, stylish look to it. It's retro-looking with an appearance similar to old-school mics from the 1950's, but the flip-out feet give it a modern twist. The polished metal look is also great. It does tend to show fingerprints, though. If that's a concern, consider a different color option.Sound quality is also fantastic. It's a condenser mic, so it's somewhat directional. I find I get plenty of volume when I speak with the mic on my desk and I'm sitting back comfortably in my chair. The sound does get richer as you move closer to it, though. So for video voice-over, I tend to hold it in my hand closer to my mouth. It also does a fairly decent job at minimizing background noise, especially when it originates from the sides or rear. I've had no need for a pop filter on this mic, but I also don't speak with my mouth right up to it, either. I have tested this, and it does catch a few of those pops. So, for those of you who would put it on a stand and speak close to it, consider adding a pop filter. But, if you speak adjacent to it and not directly toward it (as you should do anyway), you'll avoid puffing air at it and causing those volume spikes when you spit air into the mic. It also has a headphone port on the rear so you can monitor your sound input directly from the back of the Meteor as you're speaking, which is great if your recording device doesn't have a headphone jack available for monitoring.The Meteor has a threaded insert on the bottom to accept a mic stand. If you want to attach it to a boom, a stand, a desk mount, whatever, you can do so. But, I will say it'll look a little funny with the feet sticking out when it's mounted on a threaded stand. Some people won't care. If you do, you may try using a screwdriver to take out the fold-out feet, if you plan to leave it mounted to a stand.Speaking of those fold-out feet......... I'd LOVE if those were detachable. It's one of my only gripes with this mic. But, since I use it on my desk the majority of the time, it's usually a non-issue for me. The rear foot also folds up over the Mini USB port on the back of the mic. So, you can't just fold the feet up and still use the mic, as you wouldn't be able to plug it in. If you aren't careful and push down on the mic, you could also change the position of the rear foot and damage this port or the cable by pushing the rear foot up into the cable. So, just make sure to be aware of that as you use and move your Meteor around.The mic level and mute can be controlled right on the mic. I love that! It has adjustable volume on the ring around the mute button. And the LED changes from blue to yellow to indicate the mic has been muted. This works even when you mute the mic from a computer or laptop. (I have a dedicated mute button on my keyboard, so I just use that instead of reaching for the mic.)If you do need to travel with it, since the feet fold up, it ends up being nice and compact. And it even included a faux velvet pouch to put it in.Lastly, if you do purchase this mic...... while the sound quality is very good, if you do plan to record anything with it, I would HIGHLY-recommend spending a few extra dollars and getting the Samson Sound Deck companion app to go with it. You can record audio through that app. And the app includes the ability to turn on noise reduction, which virtually eliminated any echoing I heard from my voice bouncing off of the hard walls in my home office. The Sound Deck app also works with 3rd-party recording products. I tried adjusting Noise Reduction and Echo Erase while recording in Audacity, and it definitely affected the recordings. So, you don't have to record only using Sound Deck, you just need to have the app running in the background to take advantage of it. This also means that all real-time audio has the NR and EE features active, which is great for clear audio during my meetings and training courses.So, all-in-all, this is a fantastic mic! I'm pleased with how it looks and functions. There are a couple of minor things I'd change (removable feet!!!), but not enough to warrant removing a full star from my review. I'd give it a 4.5, if I could. Especially once you pair it with Samson Sound Deck. 5Thumbs way up, better than Blue Yeti I used the Blue Yeti before this one. Like this one much better. Why -- cheaper, smaller, lighter but still solid quality, (Yeti is Giant, pun intended), WAY better mute button, and with mute light -- Blue Yeti's mute button is VERY flaky. A little tricky to increase your monitoring mic (vs. Yeti) to hear yourself, but its pretty easy; and l like being able to hear myself as i speak in addition to headphone sound. I do audio conferences all day and mute is big for me. Its only cardioid (Yeti does 4 modes), but that's all I need. And i think the size of the condenser mic is one of the biggest ones you can find for PC. I thought it was made of plastic in the pic, but its all metal, even the legs. If you're on the fence between this one and Blue Yeti, get Samson Meteor. 5An excellent microphone for the price. I brought both the Samson Meteor and another mic in a similar price range called the Blue Snowball. Based on the many reviews I read before my purchase decision, I could not decide which one to buy, so I brought both. I was looking forward to comparing them upon receipt.My opinions are:1. I found the Blue Snowball to reproduce a more authentic sound of my voice, while the Samson made my voice sound a bit more "deeper", than it really is.2. The Samson had a bit more "noise", when compared to the Blue Snowball, but I was still very pleasantly surprised just how good the Samson Meteor really is, especially for VOIP.3. The build quality is top notch, and the mute button built right into the front of the mic is very handy indeed.4. It is much smaller than the Blue Snowball, and easier to carry around, especially with the stand folding up around the outside of the Mic.5. Both Microphones are excellent for the price. I will be keeping both of them, as its too hard to decide which is best.For the price, the Samson Meteor is an excellent choice. Also, you cant really go wrong with either of these two mics. 5Great for Gamers and casual YouTubers If you're thinking of getting a new mic but don't want to replace your headphones like I did then look no further.I debated a LOT about which microphone to get and I looked at a lot of headsets. I'm a gamer, so I use the mic a lot to talk to friends and make occasional videos. I wanted something that would last long and produce great quality. I also wanted something that could sit on my desk but didn't obscure my screen or take up too much space like the Blue Yeti. That thing is massive!So my two main choices were this and the Blue Snowball. I went with this one because it's smaller and cooler looking. I think both options would have been great, but I definitely think I made the right choice here for me. It's really well built and seems like it'll last a long time. It produces great sound quality even when relatively far from my mouth, but even better when it's closer up.Definitely recommend getting this one if you're a gamer/casual video maker. 5
