Customer Reviews

Sounds great. Have gotten some quality recordings out of itSounds great. Have gotten some quality recordings out of it.Only 4 stars because I don't notice much of a difference when adjusting the pole pieces. I wish there was a guide that explained how much to turn it and what to expect. Here are a few songs I've recorded with it thus far:[...][...]Enjoy!4Happy with my SD acoustic guitar pickupFor my purposes, this pick up is just what I was looking for. The goal was to record acoustic guitar tracks in a noisy environment without spend a lot of money. I'm using PC mixing software that can access "line in" on the PC. Using a simple adapter, I plug the pickup's cable into the computer. The SD pickup is passive, so the signal is not very strong, but the software picks it up and amplifies it as needed to mix with other tracks. The resulting sound is clear and close enough to the guitar's live sound to make me a happy camper. For other uses, you may need a pre-amp to boost the signal.5Great ProductI have a $110 Yamaha guitar but didn't want to wait to buy another guitar that had the electronics on it. I'm an amature player, now playing for about two years. I also bought JAM by Apogee that allows me to plug in my Seymore into the Jam, which then plugs into my IPad. I utilize the Garage Band Application, choose an amp, take a male to male ear phone chord to my Bose IPod speakers, then Jam away. Took about 30 minutes to set everything up to work the way I wanted it to. Easy to instal, good warm sound, and the 16 foot cord is a luxury to have.5Good PickupI had bought the Seymour Duncan SA3SC Woody SC Acoustic Guitar Pickup about 3 years ago and it had noise problems and the 1st and second string were too loud and I couldn't adjust the pickup. I decided to try this Seymour Duncan Woody XL Adjustable Pole Pieces and so far I am pleased with it. I screwed the pole set screws for the 1st and second strings in until I got the desired volume. This pickup is not noisy either. I believe this one is a keeper. Don't waste your money on the SA3SC like I did.5Acoustic Pick UpI bought this just because the price was right. I had one before and liked it. Trying to make an acoustic guitar amplified is a chore. It depends on the instrument, the amp and the room. The pick up is just another factor. Seymour Duncan is known and well respected. This unit (I believe) is as good as it gets and it not permanently mounted. That was important to me. I also like being able to switch it between instruments. It's not that expensive. Just buy it if you are interested....4Did what I needed it to do. The Allen ...Did what I needed it to do. The Allen screws were extremely difficult to adjust on some of them so I m not sure if it s a finishing product that s being applied after the screws are being inserted or not. I m finding that the B/high E need to be inserted quitw a bit and the low E needed to be raised. Also, the volume is relatively quiet on my Bose L1 compared to other acoustic/electrics. I may experiment with raising the screws higher but it does warn against this as it can induce hum.Just my initial report of the pick up after one gig.Edit-After about a dozen gigs with this unit it has failed at the output wiring harness area. At first there was a lot of hum/hiss that would go away upon touching it (grounding issue). It has now stopped working all together after 6 months. The audio was pretty good out of it but the connections are Very poor quality.1Great PickupThis pickup is a very nice quality piece of equipment. It looks great, and sounds great in my Washburn acoustic guitar. It came in a nice canvas pouch with very good instructions and has a nice long cord. It also came with 2 spare pole pieces and a hex wrench. It fits perfectly in the soundhole and is relatively easy to install & remove. The cord does not interfere at all when playing. I plug directly into a Fender Champ tube amp with no noticeable noise. Also sounds great using an effects pedal. Overall, it's very well made, looks really nice and sounds great. I would highly recommend this pickup.5OK, but needed adjustment to get an accetable soundOver the last 3 months I've become disappointed with the pickup. I don't use it very often and when I do it's often in situations where I don't have access to a good monitor. As a result I couldn't really hear how the pickup sounded. After a couple of months of occasional use I began to notice the string pickups were not balanced. The B string pickup is very loud in comparison to the other strings. In general the bass notes are subdued and the over all tone for the pickups still leaves me disappointed. But I guess that's to be expected with a coil design compared to an acoustic pickup.Followup - I took some time using the provided allen wrench to adjust the strings. The B string pickup was very hot, so I had to screw it in quite a bit before it mellowed out. I also had to lower the high E string pickup as it was a little loud for my taste. Finally I raised the three bass string pickups. It sounds much better. So the take home - be prepared to adjust to get the sound you like.3Can be reversed to lefty orientation! Works nicely!I am a left handed player, so I emailed SD's customer service and discussed reversing the poles for lefty orientation. I think they sent an extra pole for some variation, but maybe they do that anyway. It worked out well! The amplified sound is decent on a few different guitars I have here. The cord sticks out toward the neck, which isn't too awkward... just awkward enough.5Well-made and durable pickupI bought this for a gig on acoustic when I didn't know if I'd need to be amped or not. Ended up not, but I did practice loads with this beforehand to make sure I could get an acceptable sound. I ran this into a cheapo Crate Amp on the clean setting. I mucked with the amps settings to warm up and tune the sound - to me, pickups often sound brittle. If I was really into it, I might have also bought an eq or tube pedal with eq to add some warmth to the sound before going to amp (or PA).The pick-up is for a standard sound hole. In my case, I was using it on a Martin Dreadnought (D-12). (It definitely did not fit the Martin Backpacker I have). The pickup is braced by dense foam along the sides which is about two and half times thicker than the soundboard. This allows you some adjustment on distance from the strings. Bring one side up closer to the low E and one side further from the high E if you want more gain on the low notes.I can definitely recommend this pickup to anyone needing to amp a standard acoustic that doesn't have built-in pickups. The product is nicely packaged in a reusable cloth bag with an instruction book.5
