Customer Reviews

Didn't perform any better than a cheaper brand capoI had to set this capo on the tightest tension to make it work at the second fret of my 12-string Ovation. I had high expectations for this capo, but it performed just as well as my Kyser capo that cost a lot less money.4Make sure it fits!I have used Shubb capos for years: I don't think the perfect capo exists, because the relationship between the neck and the capo size is critical. An ordinary steel-string Shubb works well for me up to the seventh fret, but above that, I have had it spring off in the middle of a performance: very embarrassing! So I thought I'd try the 12-string. Yes, it does work up high, but requires a bit of fiddling to get the right tension, and to get all the strings free from buzzes. Retuning is always required, regardless of what ads for different capos tell you, at least on my (very good) acoustic. The Shubb is quick and easy to use, very well made, and new rubber (?) pieces arrive quickly and are cheap. A great company, Shubb.4Very good capo for 12-string guitarsI think I've tried just about every capo made for a 12 string, and in my experience Shubbs simply work the best. Other capos worked just fine on some frets, but didn't have adequate tension on other frets (particularly the first and second frets). The Kyser 12-string capo didn't have enough tension on any fret to hold down all the strings without buzzing.I love Shubbs in general and the 12-string Shubb capos in particular because I can adjust the tension to fit my guitar(s), and I never have to worry about retuning after applying the capo. It goes on and comes off just as quickly as a clamp-on capo like the Kyser, but you have to put it in your pocket of place it on a music stand when not in use. I use this capo regularly and haven't found it to be a problem at all.I bought this brass capo because it's the old Standard design. New Shubb Standard models now have a wheel like the Shubb Deluxe models. I've tried the new Standards (made in China), and they just don't work as well as the Deluxe models (still made in the USA). So I assumed this brass old-style Standard would work as well as I remembered. This capo does work, but unless the tension is just right the lever on the capo can easily flip open if I brush it with my fretting hand. My other Standards aren't this finicky. The only difference between my old Standards and this new brass Standard is that this capo has a rubber nub on one of the arms to prevent the capo lever from hitting bare metal when the capo is applied, and that's why the lever can flip open if the tension is too low. This isn't a problem on my old Standards without the rubber nub. So if I had it to do over again (and this would be my recommendation) I'd spend a few more dollars and buy the Shubb Deluxe for 12 strings.4This 12-string Shubb capo is greatI have a number of Shubb capos for different types of guitars (classical, acousting, electric and 12-string) and this is my latest one. It may also be the last capo I'll ever buy for myself since I already have all that I need.Like all my other Shubb capos, I am very pleased with this one because of the high quality that I've come to expect from Shubb; it works well, it is very small and thin all while feeling well-built and durable, and the colour looks great.5Design Needs To Be ChangedI was very disappointed to see that all that was changed on the 12 string capo was the length of the bar across the strings. The clamping mechanism is identical to the standard capo, of which I have several. Since the 12 string has a wider neck, the clamp ends off way over to one side. Unless it is clamped down so hard it throws the guitar horribly out of tune, it won't clamp at all. Even with excessive clamping pressure, on a wide, thick neck, such as you see on guitars like the Yamaha FG512, the capo flies off unpredictably while you are playing.1Great for my 12 string. Works on first fret! The only capo I have (I have about 20) that will work on the 1st fret of my Takamine 12 string. Most of the others work on 2-12, but since fret 1 is so close to the nut none of the other capos we're reliable. This one is awesome. Only complaint is that there is no quick way to stick it to the headstock of the guitar without adjustment when not needed.5Finally, a 12 string capo that works well. Finally, a quality capo for my 12 string. I've tried many capos through the years that "say" they are good for both 6 and 12 string acoustic guitars. This is the first time I've had one that actually works perfectly on a 12. I don't know if neck diameter would matter much but I use this on an Ovation 12 and I couldn't be happier. Sure, it's not quite as easy to move as the spring loaded type but that doesn't matter because this works. So what if I take 5 more seconds to put it on, move it or remove it. I get the quality fit and sound. If you're looking like I was to finally find the right capo for a 12, order this one.5Iffy ResultsPros: cool look. Snaps on with relative ease. Seems designed to give a more advantageous and even grip on the neck. I like that the tension is adjustable.Cons: it does NOT keep my 12-string in tune, which is the reason I bought it. I've tried more and less tension, in addition to close or far from the fret. Most worrisome is, if you don't not have enough tension, the capo will suddenly fly off the guitar mid-song, as happened to me on stage. Finally, it's about $10 more than your basic capo....which does not have the tendency to suddenly fly off.3Not HappyThe rubber is just way too thin to hit all of the 12 strings. Yes it's longer than the other ones but I will not SQUEEZE this into mu soft neck. Keeping it as it works better on my 6 string acoustic1The best Capo madeThe best Capo made, bar none. I did not want the newer ones with the roller, Its just something to break, the rubber nub is plenty good. I have one that is about 50 years old, and it is still perfect. This one works fine on a six string too, and an electric. I own a 12 so I bought three for 12 string. KISS ( Keep It Simple Stupid) I play right handed and clamp it with the lever toward the floor, this way there is no interference on the top of the fret board. (Low E) Ive tried other Capos, there is no comparison to this Shubb5
