Customer Reviews

I guess there was a reason that this mic isn't popular I have wanted one of these for years and now I am doubting I will ever use it. As it says you can use it onstage without major feedback problems but you most likely won't want to after hearing it. There is too much high end and it sounds crispy and brittle. I simply just don't like the way it sounds, that's all. 2I bought one for the band that I engineer for and they loved it so much they bought three more for their ... Spend enough time with audio industry professionals and the conversation will inevitably break down to the question "What is your desert island microphone?". In other words, if you could only have one microphone to do everything with, what would it be? While many people will say the Shure SM57, I heartily disagree. This is it. Hands down, no question about it. While this is a stunning live stage vocal mic, it is equally impressive recording everything from acoustic guitars to hand percussion shakers.I bought one for the band that I engineer for and they loved it so much they bought three more for their entire vocal line up. On stage, this mic really shines. The output on this mic is plenty hot, but the noise rejection is excellent. You really have to get in close to this mic. Stage noise just doesn't get picked up. The supercardioid pattern give great feedback rejection on stages with less than perfect monitor positions. Bottom line, this is the best live stage vocal mic I have ever worked with. 5this is my favorite vocal microphone for many applications I've seen the Pope using this mic, how could you go wrong with the same mic that the Pope uses?Seriously though, after much testing and listening, this is my favorite vocal microphone for many applications. My favorite application is the ability to get very high quality recordings from less than desireable recording environments. Take note podcasters and independent voice actors 5This is a great sounding mic for live performance This is a great sounding mic for live performance, especially for the price. You can spend a bunch more for a live mic but I don't really now how much you'll really get out it unless you're Mariah Carey. I have several other shire microphones (beta 58a, pg48, etc) and this one blows them away. It almost sounds as good as my large diaphragm studio mic. 5Best Stage Mic I've Ever Used What a fantastic microphone. For 45 Years the Sure SM 57/58 has been my mic of choice for live performances, but the BETA 87A is in a whole 'nother class. I absolutely love this mic. It picks up reflections and nuances of your voice that you usually only get with studio mics. When buying one consider your usual monitor placement on stage. If your monitor is directly in front or behind you I would recommend the BETA 87C. If your monitor is off to the side consider the BETA 87A. Either way these are superb mics. 5Great Mic For Use In My Band I bought this mic for use by me to sing with my band. We ALL bought one. They are great and we have way less feedback now as these mics don't pick up all the ambient noise on stage, they just pick up your voice. You do need to stay very close to the mic though so keep that in mind. Otherwise I am loving it! 5Amazing quality and powerful without feedback This is one of the best microphones. It is strong and hot but it also requires you being close to prevent feedback . Our vocal singer is a wide range female singer that benefits from the strong microphone without feedback. My next upgrade is the glxd wireless version. 5Lightweight with GREAT sound! Started liking condenser mics more and more as I got to use them more and more compared to non-condenser microphones. The headsets I use for live broadcasting both have hypercardioid condensers (Beyerdynamic) and they just sound so much better than the SM58's I used to use for live sound/announcing. Only problem was I couldn't use the headsets for live announcing because the feedback would be too much! Always wanted full blown studio condenser mic but didn't want the bill.. this beta 87A fits right in between! It's very lightweight which will be great for our events where I'm holding a mic for 10-12 hours. Really like the flat top as it is already promoting holding it at the ideal angle for the best sound. This review is really just for the unboxing video, I may or may not do a video review later. We did some kareoke with it and general talking and WOW is it a lot better than the SM58's I was using before.Highly recommend if you're looking for something between a standard mic and a very expensive studio mic!! 5Surprisingly light and sensitive Retiring my NT1A after ten long years of recording. I m a Beta 87a man now... 4So clear and crisp! I sing in a contemporary Christian group at church. We have a pretty big PA and full band and tracks setup. I've always felt the Beta 58a our church uses are muddy, but always thought it was a PA thing. I finally bought a beta 87a for myself though and was blown away at how clear the sound was. Even through my in-ears I am finally really happy with the tone I am getting from this mic. Loud, soft, speaking... It's like hearing my own voice I guess is the best way to put it. For the price point I wasn't expecting such a major difference over the beta 58a, but it blows it out of the water.Having said that, I might be careful with this mic if your vocalists are, um, less than pro? This mic won't cover up any imperfections like the 58 will. 5
