Best big shot yet!
Love everything about the new big shot plus. It doesn't weigh anymore than the regular big shot and you don't have to hold it down while cutting. It has a smooth feed and I can use all of my previous dies, folders, and thinlets. Great investment.
5Not worth upgrading to
I upgraded to the big shot PLUS from the standard big shot machine thinking it would make using standard BIGZ dies easier and so I could use larger L dies or special wider dies that Sizzix may release. So far, I haven't had a need for the extra wide area and I actually find when running standard cutting plates sandwiched with a bigz die because the plates do not have the edge to keep them going straight through the machine it actually makes the plates twist which can cause the paper to shift or the die to actually get stuck going sideways.I wish Sizzix had also lengthened the platform instead of just widening it the 2.5 inches. When you are running XL dies I've had them fall off the edge of the table on my feet because when you run it all the way through it no longer balances well on the bottom platform and can tip over. XL dies are heavy too! This machine advertises smoother cranking action and it's not supposed to bend your plates. I notice a slightly smother transition through the machine when cutting. I haven't used it enough to notice if it bends the cutting plates just as badly as the standard big shot, because I have been mostly continuing to use my standard big shot. I'll keep this just in case Sizzix does release bigger dies that I like, but if you are trying to decide between the PLUS and standard big shot I don't think it's worth the extra money for the 2.5 inch wider area this one offers especially if you use smaller dies or already have the regular machine.
3Very disappointed with this purchase
I have had this machine for only a few months and rarely used it. When I did finally use it, the handle came apart from the base as I tried to cut paper. This is so frustrating! I previously owned the smaller version of this machine for 8 years with no issues. I have attempted to contact the company for a refund or replacement , but so far have not been able to reach anyone who can help. Very disappointed with this purchase!
1Ideas? Instructions? You are on your own.
This comes with no instruction booklet. It is supposed to be "so easy to use", but come-on! There are no instructions except what is printed on some of the platforms. It's confusing how to begin using this machine. I mean a simple instruction to cut one card or something might be just the ticket, but no. So, if you order this you may as well look at Amazon (Books) and type in Sizzix to see what books for ideas that you can order with this machine so you don't have to realize you might need a little more help then have to order and wait an additional week or so for the book(s) to arrive. Very disappointing.I can just "play with it" and probably figure things out but I had expected a little something to come in the box.
3Efficient machine
Machine works well, but does not perform well with dies from other companies. Directions for each plate to use should be easier for the consumer to understand. This version does not have a book of instructions. Being able to use wider paper than other machines is a plus, but machine does take up a lot of room. Also the top and cutting plates tend to warp easily. Must be sure to constantly rotate to each side. Plates from other companies do not warp as quickly. Some web sites have ideas for correcting the warp. Have tried them with success.
4Not what they claim
Never has cut in the center, only at the edges. My guess is it was a return and Amazon just turned it right around. Since I have multiple machines, wasn t a huge deal. Now I need it and it just can t cut.
1Amazing!
Love this new big shot plus. I already own a big shot but the rollers had given up. So my husband got me this plus machine.....So happy with it . Since its the plus starter kit, it came along with all the fun things to play with. It's really so huge that i can use my A4 card stock to cut and emboss Now......
5I love this version of the Big Shot
I love this version of the Big Shot, I've had mine for several months now and use it constantly. The wider 9" opening lets me send my dies and embossing folders through in any direction. A bonus -- smaller cutting plates, the magnetic plate and basic platform you might have if you previously owned a standard sized Big Shot (like me) work perfectly in this Big Shot Plus. My new Plus cutting plates that came with the machine are still in great shape after tons and tons of use; I don't anticipate needing to replace them for awhile yet. Sizzix announced early in the year that the roller in this machine is newly redesigned specifically to provide a more even cutting experience and less warping of your plates. There's definitely a whole lot less warping going on, although admittedly not completely gone. It cuts evenly no mater where I place my dies on the platform, so as a result, I can run quite a few dies through at once with no issues as far as cutting goes. If you need to replace your standard Big Shot, consider the larger version, it is a work horse and beautifully built. Absolutely no negatives here from me.
5Save your money and get the smaller machine.
This thing is HUGE & heavy. I have a craft closet and it takes up so much space. All of the accessories I've seen are sized for the big shot. I haven't found any dies or embossing folders that I like that won't fit the big shot. I bought the larger one for scrapbooking layouts but I'm still cutting and pasting things. Save your money and buy the smaller one and use the extra money on dies and accessories.
3Cannot live without Craft item Sizzix Big Shot Plus
I love this crafting tool. I did a lot of research before I bought this and it was a great decision. Easy to use and good price.
