Customer Reviews

Mine and my son's favorite children's album!I know some French and I was hoping to have my son hearing some French early on for several reasons, one being that I once heard that for someone to be able to truly pronounce a language fluently, he or she would need to hear those sounds regularly before a certain age. I can't remember what age it was anymore, maybe 18 months or so (?) but it stuck with me that if I wanted my son to be able to pronounce French a better than his Texan mommy, I'd better have some authentic French in his little ears! I got this CD because of all the good reviews and we were not disappointed at all. When he was just a few months old, it was the one thing that we could put on and he would calm down when he was upset. For several months, it was the main thing we listened to in the car, even if I was driving alone! I love the instrumentation and sweetness of the songs. The style reminds me some of Cri Cri (Mexican singer) who I believe had his peak of popularity around the same time as this group.I can't promise that this will teach you or your child any French, but it is really a nice CD no matter what.5One of the nicest authentic French CDs for kidsAuthentic and really fun French nursery songs. If you understand French, they are a lot of fun for the adult as well and quite cultural. Whenever I visit my granddaughter, I play this CD and we play in her room, listening to it, all the way through and singing along. Highly recommended! I am French-educated, grew up abroad, and am a French teacher, so I appreciate the quality.5Great for parent and child. These songs are very enjoyable for both child and parent. Our 2.5 year old (english-speaking) daughter asks for them every time we get in the car, and they're pleasant enough that they don't get annoying to listen to over and over. Even better, our daughter is now beginning to sing along in french.5My 3-year-old's Favorite CDThis has been my 3yo's favorite CD for the last year. It is very fun and retro without being scarily dated or tacky. The arrangements and instrumentation are nice, and the singing very clear. It's a kids music CD that doesn't make me crazy to listen to as a parent. And there is nothing like hearing your 3yo son sing along in French!5Lyrics available online, mostlyI chose this one because it seemed made for French speakers, not simplified. The words are quite clear, and the variety of instrumentation appealed immediately to my four-year-old granddaughter. For her mother, I found the French texts online, furnished by volunteers and mostly accurate--just google the singer's name. Translations are another matter. Too bad the publishers can't provide texts or translations. We did dance to "Sur le pont" (you just go round and then bow or salute following the words), but wouldn't it be nice to have dance suggestions for all of these--that's what granddaughter asked for. Get to work, Grandma!I sampled many of Amazon's French-songs-for-children CDs before buying. I also liked another one, a jazz version of these children's songs. It was appealing, and the songs were extremely well sung, but so remote from the traditional rhythms as to be almost unrecognizable.I am very pleased with my choice of this classic version.4Good singing, poor lyricsI understand that many of these are traditional French songs, but why on earth would you want your child to learn songs about plucking birds and a fox going out to shoot ducks??? Several of these songs create less than ideal story lines or mental images for children. For example, track #4 is about hunting a lark and preparing it to be eaten. It talks about plucking out its feathers, etc. While I understand that lark are considered a game bird, that is not something I want to teach my preschooler a song about. A few of them are OK though, so I will be pulling those from the CD and we will listen exclusively to those. At least the singing isn't annoying like many children's songs...so it's got that going for it too.2Not only for French, but for all music lovers! It was a real treat to hear the famous and good as new songs in French. We study French at home and we could hear clearly EVERY word. The singing is high quality and made with love and humor. The songs chosen for this CD are long-time favorites and some of them are already known to American Audience. However, you will appreciate them as French do when you listen to this high quality recording CD. It is by far the best children's French audio we came across. The artists are doing a great job of delivering the message behind the lyrics that survive the time and space. The French culture is at your fingertips with these recordings. And even if you are not interested in French language, I would highly recommend this CD for a pure enjoyment of great music for you kids. Although the adults will like the CD just as much. Enjoy!5Perfect "Background" Music!I play this album in the car for our 6 month old daughter. Catchy tunes, some are old-fashioned sounding and some I recognised as traditional English language tunes. Definitely worth the buy if you want your kiddies to be exposed to the French language.4Delightful, pleasant, musical, never gets oldIf you enjoy French and/or retro music (has that barbershop/'50s, charming appeal) and/or want pleasant music for the whole family (no synth, please! real music!), buy this. A great mix of songs from a barbershop group and a lady soloist who has a pleasant, upbeat voice. Cute instrumental arrangements (maybe one or two a cappella numbers)I got it for a road trip and my husband and my kids and I ALL look forward to listening to it after many, many listens! I'm a classically trained singer and a francophile.5Lovely gift for either English or French speaking children.Music is a great way for children to learn a new language. We bought this several months before our 5-yr-old started a French learning program and it has really given her a head start. We play it at bedtime to replace the lullaby CD she had been listening to. The music is very nice and she has enjoyed it from Day 1, long before she had any idea what any of the words meant. Songs in French for Children has a lot of songs and plays for a long time.5
