A movie made for prayer and meditationI am a missionary myself. The whole movie- its music, peoples, cultural vignettes, tropical sceneries, conflicts and challenges, the searing joy and mystery of doing something beyond oneself, just brought me down to my knees many times praying for- I dont know what! But just the beauty of it!5One of my favorite film soundtracksOne of my favorite film soundtracks. He creates a world of sound. A pan flute, an oboe and young male soprano voice are the key characters in this unique soundscape. Recognizable motifs are developed and expanded and he really takes you on a journey. I never thought a pan flute sound could evoke the kind of emotion it does here. The thing is played beautifully and savagely. The singing of the oboe and the use of the boy's voice-as-instrument work together to haunting effect. Get to know the N -E -O.5Soundtrack tells the whole story beautifullyThe Mission still competes with any of the best movie soundtracks. It is the eloquence of the solitary oboe and the counter voice of the indian flute that dramatize an eternal struggle of evil and innocence. The drums accelerate as the cataclysm approaches and before silence a single incredible indian voice sings of the innocence that dies and disappears. This is what I hear when I listen to the soundtrack. Over and over again.5A soundtrack befitting a great movieAs soundtracks go, this one is not as epic or dymanic as, say, that of Dances with Wolves or Children of Dune. What this soundtrack does boast is one of the most beautiful themes you will ever hear during your sojourn on this planet. Played on an oboe, daring in its simplicity, it is absolutely captivating. It expresses both sorrow and grandeur, and as such it nicely complements both the storyline as well as the breath-taking cinematography of the film. This is by far Ennio Morricone's most popular & memorable soundtrack - and for good reason!5Beautiful array of versions of Gabriel's OboeBeautiful Music. This disc brought me closer in Spirit to a very special man who died, in Syria, while serving; MSF (Doctors Without Borders), as an Orthopoedic Surgeon. He was driven by a conscience to take on a Dangerous Mission which cost him his life. He passed eight years after his 21 year long marriage left him widowed. His intent to marry me after his return was never fulfilled. I pray for his, now 16 year old son; whom I never had the pleasure of becoming step-mother to. This music is haunting, poignant, and moving.5I have never met a Morricone score I didn't love, and "The Mission" is no exception! The musical score to "The Mission" has so many magical themes that wind up rolling around in my head for days. You will recognize some of them as your favorites too. Warning to those who hate choruses, there is some choral along with the music, but I find I almost miss it, as it is so pertinent to the score and ongoing action. I have never met a Morricone score I didn't love, and "The Mission" is no exception!5One of the Greatest Movie Scores of All TimeThis is a moving and beautiful score, good movie too. It has a great melody that carries throughout many of the songs that makes you want to hear it again and again. I love the use of many different instruments and song styles. This is powerful music worth listening to.5Just Beautiful Music... HeavenlyMissed the movie (and the soundtrack) in mid-80's when I was busy working and raising kids. Found this perusing affordable soundtracks, scanned the reviews which prompted me to listen to 30-second excerpts - had to have it. I think some of the best music for years has been composed for film. This recording is among the best; a consensus of positive reviews on Amazon always gets my attention. Thank you to all who bother to write. I'll add my recommendation to the mix.5It's beautifulI have the original cassette tape of this soundtrack, which was recorded with analog. When I played this digital CD, something wasn't right to me. I looked at the cover and saw it had been remixed and recorded digitally. If you never heard the original you would not notice. But I am a trained professional musician with a degree in instrumental music and my ear heard the difference right away. It's still one of the most beautiful filmscores I've ever heard. Gabriel's Song or oboe is gorgeous and deeply moving. Get it, you'll love it.4Easy on the Ears !!Awesomely Beautiful Music Here! The soundtrack from the movie, "The Mission" is Hauntingly Beautiful! After a pleasant 30+ year old memory...That's Stayed with me, a recent viewing of the movie again, finally stirred to buy this CD! This World needs MORE Beauty in it for most of us..."The Mission" soundtrack will help one's mood whenever you need a dose of lovely music! Also, seeing 30+ Year Younger versions of Robert De Niro, Jeremy Irons and Liam Neeson was also nice, but one might have to rent or buy the Movie...!5
