    For those that enjoyed "A Fish Named WandaFor those that enjoyed "A Fish Named Wanda," same cast continues the hilarity with a different story line. Some of the sight gags were particularly fun if you love animals. John Cleese plays a zookeeper who is directed to raise profits by highlighting the fierce/dangerous zoo animals that zoo-goers supposedly prefer rather than the more "cuddly" mammals. The fate of the less-fierce creatures is used to great comic effect. Don't miss the scene with Jamie Lee Curtis trying to remain silent while she hides in a closet with a very large spider! I never understood why this movie was not as popular as A Fish Named Wanda. Watch it and enjoy.4A Lemur Called RolloThis movie reunites the cast of A Fish Called Wanda, but is not a sequel. I found it far more hysterical that the first movie. John Cleese drafted the script. Both Jamie Lee Curtis and her breasts figure prominently in the film. A small zoo with a low profit margin is purchased by a large conglomerate, Octopus Inc., run by cruel tycoon Rod McCain (Kevin Kline). High profit expectations are set and new manager, Rollo Lee (Cleese), implements a new marketing strategy--do away with all the animals except for the ferocious ones that patrons come to see. To save the creatures from extermination zoo workers begin a campaign of marketing all of the zoo animals as fierce dangerous creatures (such as billing Meercats as the "sharks of the desert"). Eventually, Vince McKain (also played by Kline) and business executive Willa Weston, take control of the zoo and revoke the Fierce Creatures Policy for a new policy of celebrity endorsements. (Check the plaques at some zoos you visit and you will see this outrageous commercial gimmik isn't altogether fic tional.) Hilarity happens because of the myriad of misunderstandings that occur, such as Weston's belief that Rollo has several women in his bed (he is actually talking to animals he didn't exterminate). This often overlooked movie is very, very funny and was previously difficult to find on video or DVD. Unfortunately they have yet to release a wide-screen version. A foreign language version of the film played omage to Wanda with the even better title, "A Lemur Called Rollo".4Great movie you do not want to miss!This may sound like a horror movie, but it is not! It is one of the most funniest romantic comedies that I have ever seen! If you like silly humor like Spaceballs or Fast Times at Ridgemont High then this may be just the movie for you!The basic synopsis is, A Zoo that is owned by a chop shop style conglomerate has its head on the chopping block unless they start showing a 25% profit. Now, where people will pay money to see fierce creatures, they unfortunately pay less to see tame ones. The Decision to save the zoo is to get rid of the passive animals. This begins a Madcap adventure of the keepers trying to convince the Zoo manager that their peaceful creatures are in fact vicious deadly creatures. There is also a romantic side story going on thru out the movie as well as other humorous antics.5no captionsThe movie was good, but it was advertised as closed captioned and it was not. If you liked a Fish Called Wanda and you enjoyed Fawlty Towers, you will probably enjoy this film, I really was looking forward to it, but couldn't enjoy it that much because of the lack of captions. I wouldn't have bought it if I knew that ahead of time.3Very, very funny!This was a delightful blend of British & American humor.Take a basic plot that immediately brings visions of a yawn-fest, add in the outrageous and yet subtle wit of John Cleese & Michael Palin, sprinkle in the (artistically) flexible Jamie Lee Curtis and the subtle but versatile humor of Kevin Kline...and a winner is born! (Well, in my book anyway). Although I never fell out of my chair, this movie kept me laughing from start to finish.Even though I would catalog this as a "classic wacky comedy", astonishingly enough after the third or fourth time I watch it, I started noticing just how masterfully the actors brought their characters to life. This is definitely in the list of my top ten comedies.Even my kids like it, proving again that good comedy can cross the generational gap with ease.5laugh out loud hilarious!!!Laugh-out loud hilarious!!! I have loved this movie since the first time I saw it in 1997. I personally think it's funnier than "a fish called Wanda" and truly underrated. As many of the other reviewers, I was very disappointed with the quality of the video transfer to DVD. The dvd initially starts off in widescreen but less than 5 minutes in, it switches to full screen. Other than that I really didn't have too many other problems however, the HD video on demand version seems to have resolved that issue.John Cleese has become the new director of a zoo in England and is tasked with keeping it afloat financially. His brilliant plan consists of stocking the zoo with only "fierce creatures" because blood and violence are what people really want. This policy creates tension among the zookeeper and leads to some outrageous situations. Graphic violence, foul language and nudity is minimal but there is a lot of suggestive sexual situations. If you are looking for a good movie that will have you laughing the whole time, then I would wholeheartedly recommend this one.5Very funny movie for mature adults (young and old)What can be said about the cast and crew that already hasn't?John Cleese, Jamie Lee Curtis, Kevin Kline, Michael Palin and others did a very good job of being funny without being over the top crude or gross. Sure, there are sexual references but nothing that would make one say don't look Ethel! If you get what I'm saying I guess in a comical way. Good script. Actors and actresses play off one another. It all flowed well and looked natural.Profanity wise I'd say it isn't anything out of the ordinary with late night T.V. being worse in my opinion but there are a few b word and what not. Again, I was not afraid to watch this movie with my 20 year old daughter for example and we both had a great time and many laughs through out.Let me put it to you this way. If I was on a deserted island this is a movie I would like to have with me!5FC FierceI love Fierce Creatures. It is more funnier. It is one of my favorite Kevin Kline movies of all time. I like the scene where Vince finds out that Rollo had 3 girls, the part where Vince was Stripping and goofing off and thought Willa was in the Bedroom, the Part where Vince said that Rod Screwed up his whole childhood, and the part where Vince was happy that Rod was dead. Before I had it, I thought it was going to be an Adult Comedy same as if for the movie In & Out as of an Adult Comedy. Also, I like the scene where Vince was destroying the cart where the Champagne was and was acting like a spoiled child. The Stripping and Goofing off scene is what makes me want to watch that movie. Every time Kevin plays two characters or more in a movie, it's like he's talking to himself the whole time. A friend of mine asked if I've seen it and I said "Oh, I love Fierce Creatures."5DVD 2 stars but movie 5 stars2 stars for the DVD itself because of the small screen size at the beginning due to the titles, but it does change to full screen. I find this a bit annoying but we do get to see this great movie over and over. I give the DVD 5 stars for the story. To us it is a classic and if you can get through the beginning part without getting mad and shutting off the DVD player you will enjoy it. You need to see "A Fish Called Wanda", also a great film, to understand what John Cleese says at the end of "Fierce Creatures". At first I rated this DVD low but that isn't fair to the movie itself. I don't know why they chose to do the beginning the way they did, but most of the movie is in full screen.2A Kindler Gentler CreatureThis film definitely deserves to be revisited. It had a rocky path from principal production to the big screen. Initial filming began in 1995 with reshoots done in 1996 going through two directors in the process. Despite some minor continuity errors, namely Carey Lowell disappears from long stretches of the film, it's a virtually seamless enterprise. There was a lot of anticipation riding on this film because of the sleeper success of "A Fish Named Wanda" that it was almost a certainty that expectations would be dashed. That's a shame because "Fierce Creatures" is hilarious. Whereas "Wanda" was a homage to the Ealing comedies, even employing Charles Crichton who helmed some of those classic laughfests, informed by Monty Python "Fierce Creatures" is a different animal completely. This film gently satirizes the commercial exploitation of some of our more beloved institutions, in this case a placid London zoo. Whereas "Wanda" skewered it's targets this film tweaks it's intended subjects with no less success. The principal cast from Wanda is reunited here and they're uniformly excellent and once again Kevin Kline is the standout here in a dual role of a Rupert Murdoch type and his idiot son. I don't want say that this is better than the earlier film because they both succeed on their own merits. I saw this on initial theatrical release in 1997 and I liked it but came in to it with preconceptions. View this film with a fresh slate and you will enjoy it immensely.5
